An

My full name is My An Lam. I'm Vietnamese.
Many people asked me "why do you come here to study English?". I can study English in my country, but my problem is practice English. I'll never improve my english if I'm in my country, that is what my daddy said. So he decided to send me here. He has many friends in Bangkok and his friends are not Vietnameses or Thai, so if I want to communicate I have to speak out English. I think that's good when I'm here. I'm getting more confident and mature when I'm far away from my family.
In Viet Nam, I studied biology in university about 1 year. After that I recognized that I took a wrong choice, so I stopped and I study english only now. I'm going to study in another country but I've not known yet which country. It's can be Philippine, Australia or Hawaii.
In my free time, I like to online to read the news or talk with my friends. I like to read the book about what happen around the world, and the story of the great people.
I would like to learn how to talk in front of crowd confidently and clearly because it's necessary for I'm going to study in the future. But I think I have some problems with my pronounciation.
I hope I can improve my english as soon as possible.

DA's Response to Law

In "Carving the Roast Beast", Stephen Law's main idea is correct and I really agree with his main idea because the story talk about killing turkeys more than 25 million in every year in the UK. In my opinion, I think killing animal is a sin. It is against our nature. In some holiday, namely, Christmas eve ,New year celebration and Easter ,western family usually eat a lot of meat and turkeys. Therefore, a lot of animals will be kill in those day which mean if we still eat meat and turkeys, mass slaughter will continue. The vegetarian, we don't have to eat meat and turkeys during those holiday. If we together reduce our need in meat and turkeys, we could stop this mass slaughter from now on. I think, eating vegetarian had a lot of vegetable ,it give high vitamins such as vitamin c .Moreover, vegetables had a lot of fiber that good for health. Eating vegetable will greatly benefit our health and our way of life more than eating meat but eating meat not wrong. The vegetarian is one choice that people choose for good healthy instead of eating meat and turkeys. Finally, I hope everyone stop to kill animals for celebration.

Li La's reponse to Law

In this morning, while i was finished diologue reading. In my opinion, Stephen Law's main idea is teenagers are increasingly becoming vegetarians. why should i agree with Law's ?
I agree with Law's because nowaday almost people around the world especialy teenagers. They're know very well about healthy and unhealthy food and prefer exactly which them want.
I knew that we can't stop slaughter insufficiency to satisfy our meals, but i think, we still have many choice to have in each meals instead of meats such as vegetable, bread, or we can reduce some meat in every meals as possible as we can and can save more animal around the world to stay alive too. Finally i wish in next 25 pages all parents can understand why teenagers need to be vegetarian? because vegetable can help people in many way for someone who needs to diet, healthy and beauty.

An's response to Law

I agree with Law, the teenagers are increasingly becoming vegetarians. In my opinion, there are 3 reason for them to do that.
The frist reason: vegetable is better for health more than meat, and they don't want to be fat body.
The second reason: what they learnt from school to protect the animals.
The third reason: their belief.
However, We need to get enough nutrition. If you eat only vegetable you can't get enough protein to provide energy for your activities, or if you eat only meat it will be easy for you to get fat, and also easy to get heart disease.
There are just some my ideas. Please comment your idea if you see it not enough.

Mi Response to Law

In my opinion, so far...
Gemma did not want to eat because of diet. She used to eat meat. Now she must be able to eat it.

Pang's Response to Law

In "Carving the Roast Beast", Stephen Law's main idea is that correct and I agree with him . Many people probably believe that different countries have a different tradition and belief so this is not wrong to follow it. However,I think that the tradition of killing many turkeys for celebration on Christmas dinner should be changed and might be changed to eat vegetable instead of meat. The first reason why being vegetarian is a better choice is making healthy and good shape. Vegetable has no fat that can solve obesity's problem. It also has a lot of vitamin that is good for people's health. In addition, killing animals is morally wrong. Animals are living things. They have feeling and emotion like human so people should not make them pain and hurt for only celebration. Moreover, turkeys will be extinct. More than 25 million turkeys are killed every year. They might be disappeared and be a problem in the future.

may's Response to Law

In Stephen Law's main idea I think it is that correct and I really agree with him because many turkeys all around the world were killed in this time for only celebration. This is why it might be decrease or lower than it used to be in the pass. I think about young generation are increasingly becoming the vegetarians. They change idea to eat meat and prefer. They might know more about the nutrition from beans and vegetables that good for their health. The turkeys have impact us such as uric acid that make problem of joint. The cause that had proved by gout people. The hormone feed used to make them grow faster. It is high in cholesterol and often contains by high concentrations and preservatives. I think in the next 25 pages the writer can change their parents opinion to understand the teenager. Finally, I hope that parents must not compel them again.

Ae's-Response to Law

In "Carving the Roast Beast",Stephen Law's main idea is that roast turkey is very important meal for Chrismas' day and every one in family should to join together for have dinner .because this is traditional for Christien to follow .
Ae

Win's Response to Law

In "Carving the Roast Beast", Stephen Law's main idea is that It has many turkeys are killed for Christmas dinner so we should eat nut cutlets instead. I think I'm not agree with him. Because each countries have different culture, even though in family, and you know in USA or UK turkey is the staple food in Christmas dinner but vegetarians don't like this. I think everyone have the freedom to choose to be or please not force, does it correct? Then, Gemma or the other one think that it's morally wrong, I also think it has many ways to Christmas celebration just like Valentine's day isn't necessary be a chocolate all the time.

Nana's Response to Law

From the story, There are different of general people and vegetarian teenage. I think the main idea of writer is the killing animal for christmas celebration is suitable, right? After I read them I think it 's important christmas celebration must to kill turkey like the Chinese new year celebration must kill pig, chicken and anything for eat. For the thinking of vegetarian killing animal is moral but the teenage isn't vegetarian, she want to diet by eat only plant . The vegetarian don't like to join with meal with the people eat animal. I think everyone have right for make different. If something isn't wrong with general law. That 's just chain food, the human is predator. If the human don't eat any animal, There are a lot of animals and should not feed them. May be the kind of animal keep only at the muesium. If your teacher say about turkey, you tell him that " I see at zoo".

That's all, Thank you.

Ann's Response to law

In Carving the Roast Beast",Stephen Law's Main idea is that Every year in the UK, more than 25 million turkeys are killed for our Christmas dinner. Is this mass slaughter justifiable merely to satisfy our preference for a certain kind of meat? Shouldn't we be carving nut cutlets instead? and I really agree with this dialouge because I use to see on Movies and Movies built form real situlation.I think that. and another thing is that Teenagers are increasingly becoming vegetarians, often on moral grounds. It can be irksome for the parents.

My guess is that Law will write about
teenagers

Happy Birthday, Mr. Darwin?

Today, February 12th, 2009, is the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin, whose theory of evolution is arguably the greatest scientific insight ever made, surpassing other contenders such as Newton and Einstein. However, as The Economist notes in "Unfinished business", people's acceptance of Darwin's theory and its consequences for human beings varies considerably, from over 80% in Iceland to less than 40% in the US (2009).
The table of statistics on public acceptance for selected countries clearly suggests, as The Economist also notes, that there is a connection between religious conviction and belief in evolution. As belief in gods and religions goes down, belief in evolution tends to rise.
Why is this? Do you think this is a cause for concern?
What questions might this bring up about science? About religion? About theism?

The author of The Economist's article also mentions the ideas of the researchers Gregory Paul and Phil Zuckerman, who argue that belief in god and religion are inversely related to the level of material prosperity in a nation, as they argue, along with their main contention, in "Why the gods are not winning" (2007).
Do you think this is true of your culture? Do you think it is a good or bad thing? Why? Why not?
What, if anything, should be done about the apparent decline in the importance that people attach to religion and gods?
How does this relate to our reading of Plato's Euthyphro?

Krich's on lord of the flies

First, I don’t finish reading this novel, so there many part that I don’t understand.
In Lord of the flies, Golding gives many things to represent symbolic of politic; for example, Simon represents good man who sacrifice to other who weaker.
I think two last sentences show us that the man who came to help children is represent someone who solve the bad situation and it can not help so much if that help come so late.

P's on LoF

The officer, surrounded by these noises, was moved and a little embarrassed. He turned away to give them time to pull themselves together; and waited, allowing his eyes to rest on the trim cruiser in the distance (Golding & Epstein, p. 202).
From these two sentences, I think it is like our world society. The officer represents to adults and the boys represent to children. Adults often do not care about children's ideas. They do not listen what the children think, but they do care only their thought and think that it is better because they are mature. They do not concern that when they were children the world is not the same as the world in this time; something has changed and the solution for the similar situation also changed.
Sometimes children need help, but they just stay away and look at them from their point without giving their hands because they think that it is just a little things and ridiculous.

A

In the novel Lord of the Flies,Golding used many situations that the boys have to face with it to represent symbolic of other things such as when simon confronted with lord of the Flies that represent the immoral.Golding also uses the same technic to make reader can imply what he want to tranfer in these two sentences. In these the last two sentences he uses the officer as the people who come from civilization that cam imply that be a moral person.however when he face with the situation about the boy that had lived in the island. The writer can imply that what he has seen very different from the normal situation. He assumes that the boys are the boys,in contrast it different with what he expect to see from them.

Soojin's respons writing about Lord of the flies.

All people have some instincts which they would like to hide, such as angry, arrogance, greed, and desire to broke rules which we decided to keep. In Lord of the flies, writer revealed those instincts and described well. On small island, the boys have a part which they want to supporting. Jack want to be prosperous in his part, so show his power and insist on obey. To keep his own goal, he and his group kill someone and hate, but also forget the important purpose on the island, which they have to be rescued and get out the island. Jack's instincts reflect the human's instincts hided in deep mind. After officer come out the island and see the boys, the boys is embarrassed and surprised at what they did and what happened. Immediately, they realize that their behavior is emotional and funny thing. This is an end of the novel. Actually, those funny situation is normally happened in society. For example, in history, it was called hunting the witch that people killed the person who didn't keep religion's rules. The authorities used this rule, hunting the witch, to show and keep their power. In addition, most interesting thing is though people know that this rule was silly, people followed to kill and didn't hesitate to do.

Krich on Euthyphro

In my opinion, Euthyphro is a reliable friend because in this dialog show us about the conversation between Euthyphro and Socrates. In this conversation, we also find Socrates has problem in his life and he decides to talk about his problem with Euthyphro. In addition, Euthyphro does not ignore that problem he try to find the way to help his friend. Moreover, Socrates seem believe in Euthaphro ability to help him past this problem.

A on Euthyphro

Euthyphyphro is a man who believed in real life that come with real situation that mean he didn't concern about the principle of the rule of law as same as Socretes. As he talked to Socretes he warned him about what might happen if he insisted in his idea in the public.Euthyphyphro has ability to understand human nature very well.He used it when he has dicussing with S.

Soojin's respons writing about Euthyphro

Socrates is very famous person in the world. I haven't read the book, so though it is difficult to understand in English, I'm happy to receive it. In the introduction, the situation between Euthyphro and Socrates is very interesting. They met in the court and confronted different situation. Socrates are defending from other people and Euthyphro are prosecuting, which he accuse his father. In this part, situation catched my attention but also their argument is interesting. Euthyphro said that his bihavior which prosecute his father who is murderer is holy and Socrates asked that what is holy and unholy thing? Until page 7, I also consider about holy and unholy. Actually, my major is theology, so, in the field, my seniors and my friend aruge that what holy is and how we keep it. Whenever we argue the topics, the argument always hot.

Peter on Meletus

In the first pages of Plato's Euthyphro, he introduces Meletus. Meletus does not actually appear in the dialogue, but we can guess that he is important. Plato would not mention him so early, or repeat his name a couple of times, if he were not important. We learn that Meletus is a politician, and in fact Plato tells us, in Socrates description, which electoral district of ancient Athens Meletus is from and represents in Athenian politics. He is from the Pitthean deme, which would be something like a district of Bangkok, such as Bangrak or Pathumwan.
It sounds as though Meletus is also young because Socrates remarks on his young age. Like many modern politicians, Meletus is also very keen to protect the children of Athens from corrupting influences. We can imagine that Meletus would approve of cracking down on Internet cafes, late hours for pubs, short skirted girls and long haired boys, and things like that.
Meletus has decided that Socrates is a serious cause of corrupting the morals of the children and young people of Athens, and so he has bruoght a indictment against Socrates in the law courts of Athens.
Socrates seems a bit relaxed about it all - maybe he doesn't realise his life is at stake?

P's on Euthyphro

After I read Euthyphro, I'm interested in the point that Euthyphro will prosecute his father in the case of murder his servant He is very strict and concern about doing the right things. He does not care who did wrong things but he cares what did that person do. If I were him, I'm not sure that I would do the same thing as he did or not because it is difficult to make a decision. Although his father is a murderer, he is his father and raised him up. In addition, the situation is very long time ago and in that time this case is very strange because no one did like that maybe..
