We're all studying academic English, and we're all in a reading and writing class, so it perhaps makes sense to spend a few minutes thinking about the question: Why do people write academic English? In particular, why do people write paragraphs, essays, research papers, theses, and the like? And I don't mean just the members of our class, but also academics, journalists, philosophers, economists, news paper readers, lawyers and others, even students. Why do all of these people, along with us, want to write academic English?
What are your ideas? Why do people go to the trouble of writing paragraphs and essays and so on?

A thoughtful response should normally mean writing for five to ten minutes. After you state your main idea, some details, explanation, examples or other follow up will help your readers.

In my opinion, acadamic writing have a formal format which make it easy to read and understand the purpose of writing becuase in acadamic writing, they required a good reasons to support the main idae. however, many people always have a problem with writing in english because they can not organize their idea before writing and the second reason is , they usually think in their language and then translate to english that may make a miscommunication.as a result, if they understand about the structure of writing and know how to organize their idea. it would be help them to write in academic style easily. Anyway, I'm still one of these people who have problem about writing in academic style. :)

ReplyDeletePerhaps a more concrete example would help. Why would you want to write the paragraph about the painting on page 165 of Quest? "Because Peter told me to" is not the sort of answer I meant.
For the native English writer, I think, they use academic writing because the academic writing have a several formats for each kind of writing which is a formal forms. Writing in these form is usually have standard to make the writing look more officially or typically.
ReplyDeleteMost people write Academic English because people can understand and follow it easily and english language is a international language. Moreover, academic writing has a pattern form, write grammatically and correctly and use wide range of vocabulary. Therefore, people have to learn how to write and read academic english in the right way and it was necessary for all ages. However, people still have a problem of writing academic english because they misunderstand the method and concept to write a good essay and cannot organize the correct idea or thinking process to answer the topic or question. In adddition, some people don't use grammar rule and range of vocabulary when they write the academic english. Consequently, they should focus on their english skills and try to improve wrting ability to become a good writer in the future.
ReplyDeleteIn my idea, academic writing can make the reader understand in the topic. It can show your idea about that topic or can indicate the key point that you want the reader to know. For examples, give the knowledge, give the fact, and discuss about somthing in oder to make the reader realize about that. So, academic writing is a good way for present somthing that the writer want the reader to know. However, many people always have a problem with writing because sometime, they don't have the knowledge about that topic, know in a little bit vocabularies, have a problem in gramma skill, and they don't know "How to organize". Overall, These problems can solve by write more and more, and always practice your writing for improve the writing skill.
ReplyDeletePeople write many kind of writing. For exemple, diary, notes, report, journal for news and novel, etc. However, there are aims each writing. I mean, we can write diary or notes without any special form and rules but when we write academic writing, we have to follow form or rules for good writing. For the reason, people learn how to write which suitable for each aim.

ReplyDeleteIn my openion, I think that acadamic writeting is one of the formal wrinings style which has some rules for writers who are in the academic field and the writer need to abide by the rules in order to express their ideas precisly to readers. Moreover, the ideas have to be circumscribed and organised definily so that the readers can understand the writers' ideas easily. In other word, the people in academic field, university studens and graduated people, have to read a lot of messages in a year for updating and improving their knowledge or vision. Therefore, the readers in this field prefer the well-organised writing to the verbose writing and here is the burden of the academic writer to write good writings.
ReplyDeleteAcademic writing is the standard form for people who are related academic. They can be a scholar, a university student, a economist and so on. Although it has many rules and complicated, it's good writhing to understand what writer means. The reason why, there are certain main idea what writer want to tell, sufficient supporting idea. In addition,it's well organied so it make reader easier to follow and understand. However, many people suffer from academic writing because they are not skilled in. If they learn how to do and practice, they won't suffer from it any more. One more thing, it's better to collet(know) background knowledge which you think it's useful and significant.
