Diving into PC

I like to see the sea but it is cold and dark in my hometown which located north of Japan, so I’m very happy to see and swim in the clear and beautiful sea in south of Thailand. From now, I can see the beautiful ocean around the world in my house.

According to “Google adds coral reef panoramas to Street View maps”, users of Google’s Street View service can observe the underwater world made from the pictures taken by special three lenses camera, which makes it possible to have clean images in spite of dim light in the sea. It is also expected that the system will give the scientists more precise information about the reefs, and contribute to their researches about reef’s conditions, changes, and creatures living there.

Although Google Maps is an interesting and useful system, it has also a risk violation of human rights. So I don’t like it much, but when I read this news and watched picture of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, I thought it is a great idea. I know this it sounds a little bit selfish, but there is less risk than city map (creature of the sea might not care much about their privacy) and it help to create global reef record. The panoramas of reef are clear and so beautiful. I was surprised at camera’s performance. We can also watch a boundary line between sky and sea which can’t watch normally.

I have swum with snorkel once, and it is interesting experience for me, but I’m not good at swimming so I feel fear when I swam. Not only people who can’t swim like me, but also someone living far from the sea, can’t walk or being too busy, everybody can see it. I think it is a great thing. As mentioned in the article, it offers to do help with people’s conscious of environmental problem of the sea. I hope this technology can contribute to keep the beautiful ocean.

  1. It's very interesting because I have a scuba diving license. I recommend you should get a scuba diving license here in Thailand because you can go to beautiful beach easily. When you go back to Japan, you must spend a lot of money to go to beautiful beach. Moreover, scuba diving does not need swimming skill.
You can see real beautiful coral and creatures in the ocean after getting it. I hope you try to get it.

  2. That sounds interesting that I can explore underwater world withount being under the water. I did a scuba diving once about ten years ago but I can remember how amazing the underwater world lives is. Also, I wish I could do it again. However, nowadays, I don't even have time to go any sea.

  3. This story remind me to think about when the first time that Google map was released, the google's companys was requested by some countries to reduce the resolution of the map because they concern about their privacy information such as location of military airports, barracks, fighting airplanes and Tanks. Nowadays, these countries might hid their aircraft in the safe place or they already have a hidden cover to hid their weapons.

    1. I remember, but I don't understand it.
Google's cameras are far lower in resolution than those of the US and other nations' militaries. It seems that they just don't want ordinary citizens, including their own, to know things.

But on second thoughts, maybe it's not so unreasonable. Sometimes ignorance is better than knowledge, and one example of where speech should be restricted and information censored in order to enforce ignorance and prevent any well-founded opinion might be strategic military matters.

I'm less sure that there is any such good reason for most of the censorship and restrictions on free speech that governments everywhere like to enforce against their own adult citizens.

    2. I mean google map first version that they released the high resolution satellite map of many countries.

It might be these government did not want their information on satellite map publicly and anyone can access it, just click on google's website.

  4. I am one who love beach, sea and underwater world. Last year, I went to Kho Samid and swam with snorkel to see sea lives. It seems I visit another world and it is really gorgeous. But I did not use snorkel well, so lots of sea water filled full of my mouth and nose. I could not breathe well and swam with snorkel shortly. Sometimes I think I should start learning about scuba diving seriously.

  6. On the other hand,Google's street map or Google's ocean map might have both side-effect which it can reduce or increase the number of tourists who plan to go vacation on these countries because they can watch these place's views via google website before they make a plan or reach these place.

  7. Wow, It is very interesting. I have not known about it before. Thank you to share this information. I love diving but I scare of the darkness under the sea.

I used to do snorkeling at some places, the first time was at Kho Tao and Kho nang yuan. I could not dive alone because I was scare the darkness, so my friend catched my hand and we were diving together. It make me feel more relax like that, anyway it was very nice trip, I saw 5 sharks there but it was happenning very fast.

After that I went to Kho Phi Phi, Kho Surin and Similan. I was diving with my friends and I tried to dive alone but I could not do it long time as I too much scare but it is another wonderful world that I would like to explore. I feel very clame and concentrate when I am under water,

I think diving via Google is a good idea to get images before go to those places.
