Actually I didn't read a book too much I always read by social media because It's easy to get and fast to update. I like to read content and news in facebook or twitter about psychology such as how to change your attitude, behavior , manage your stress and about depression. Despite I have red a book about psychology. This book was written by Khunkao. He is very popular psychologist in Thailand. A book tells about how to mind control your body and how to brain working. It's make me understand my self.

Actually, your comment about not reading books but reading online reminds me of the question I wanted to ask Teng as I read his blog post on this topic of our reading and writing. I used to have thousands of books that I'd collected over decades of reading, but a few years ago, I stopped buying paper books. Now, I buy only eBooks, mainly Kindle. Almost everything is published as a Kindle eBook these days, and I love them. I carry a large library around on my smart phone that is for more useful than the heavily piled bookshelves I used to have. And for things like reference books, digital is vastly better.
ReplyDeleteI also read the news online, and Facebook is useful for that - I often follow links there to interesting articles in The New York Times and other magazines I subscribe to. I wonder how many people still read newspaper on paper. I haven't done that for years.
Have you ever read "Man’s Search for Meaning" written by Viktor E. Frankl, a jew psychiatrist who lived in Nazi concentration camps during WW2?
ReplyDeleteIt is my most favorite book about psychology. He shared his tragic experiences and what he learnt from the camps. He realized the fact that no matter how bad something happens in one's life, that person still has freedom to choose how to react to the situation.
For example, if you failed an exam, it is more likely to feel sad about it, but you don't have to. It is just an event that's already happened, and you always have freedom to choose whether to give it up, to work hard and try it again, to feel depressed, or whatever. There are indefinite choices you can have. As you can see, no matter what happens in your life, it is you who make final decision on how to deal with it, just realize your mind freedom.
So, if you've never read this book, I would definitely recommend it. It also has Thai version, if you might want to give it a try.
I am not surprised for our modern reading behaviour. I accept that seeking for information or even news in online is convenient and accessible dramatically. With the breakthrough of technology, many kind of sources such as news, book and chatting are applied with our lives by having only smart advice, mostly smartphone. However, I am the one who desires for reading books passed paper form more than mobile screen, because it looks classic and easy to read when you move your finger follow each alphabets. But it is okay to have both choices to choose what method you like.
ReplyDeleteI do understand you and I’m exactly like you. I think because we are in the same generation. The first thing I usually do when I wake up or even before going to bed is to grab the phone and see anything on every social media, especially Line and Facebook. I totally agree with you that this way is so easy and quick to get information moreover it’s up-to-date.
ReplyDeleteI also know Mr. Khunkao. He is my favorite psychologist too. I follow him on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. I really like to watch his videos on YouTube. What he said is always interesting and inspired me so much. I can say he is the reason that I began wanting to know more about psychology. By the way, I have never read his book “ขุนเขาเกาสมอง” I’m quite sure that you must already read it. So can you review me that book? Besides Khunkao I also know other well known and good psychologists/ life coaches such as Sean Buranahiran, Gig , Jib, trainer Narisa. We can talk about these personally. I think we have many things in common :D
I agree that reading news in the social media is very convenient.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice that you really like to read psychology. To be honest, I'm not interested in psychology at all.
It seems like it's not my type of books to read.. My type of books to read is mostly about languages and fiction.
