Japan to review aid for booming China

Today I have read the CNN News report on "Japan to review aid for booming China.

Japan will review and possibly cut financial aid to China, in light of Beijing's growing economic power, the nation's foreign ministry said Friday(P 2).

After I read this news I just think about Japan and China's economic. Since 1960s, Japan started supporting to China as indemnification after war. Since 2007, the most of nations affected by financial crisis. Japan is one of them. Japanese government thinks that Japan will review aid for China. Because China overtaking Japan in terms of gross domestic product. In my opinion, Japanese government should not stop aiding for China. There are 3 reasons that Japan should continue supporting China. First of all, export trades in China has a bad setback, because many countries cancled the orders after financial crisis. Moreover, although China's GDP (gross domestic product) is the highest in a world, average GDP is not high. Because China has a  larg population in the world. Finally, current China's economic  is same with Japan's 1960s. In conclusion, Japan government should continue to supporting China.

The Last Airbender scored 5 Razzie Awards

Every year before the Academy Awards announces that which actors, directors or screenwriters, will be the best in their crafts, the Razzie awards, will be following their tradition to name the worst actors, directors, and screenwriters. And this year is particularly interesting for me to see that who will win or in this case loose, in the BBC news, titled, "M Night Shyamalan's Last Airbender wins Razzie Awards"

In The 31st annual Golden Raspberry Awards 2011, the famous director, M. Night Shyamalan who has won the worst director and worst screenplay for his 2010 film, the Last Airbender, which also won other 3 awards, worst film, worst supporting actor and worst " eye-gouging misuse of 3D". Among the winners are Ashton Kutcher who took the worst actor for Valentine's Day. While his co-star, Jessica Alba, won the worst supporting actress. Regarding, Shyamalan's the Last Airbender, The founder of Razzies, John Wilson said, "He managed to take a cartoon property and make it even less lifelike by making it with real actors, Most people who like the show, and this would include my 14-year-old son, hated the movie. It made no sense whatsoever."(2011, ¶13)

It has been fun following the Razzie Awards this year. First, after the nomination was announced, I noticed that in the worst supporting actress category contained three nominees that share common identity. They are Cher, Babara Streisand and Liza Minnelli, all are legend singers with multiple Grammy Awards, the Tony and Emmy winners, and ironically, the owner of four Academy Awards, and they were about to put one more award on their trophy shelves but it was snatched away by Jessica Alba when the Golden Raspberry Awards announced on February 27. The most popular film in this year Razzie would be The Last Airbender, which deservedly earned the worst picture, worst director, worst screenplay, worst supporting actor and, the new category, worst " eye-gouging misuse of 3D". This film is an adaptation of the animation, known as the Avatar. My first impression for the film trailer was quite positive and was eager to see what it will be like, but after I had seen it, the feeling was disappointing. After the movie, I ran to Google and have a research I found that I was not the only one, several viewers and film critics are majorly upset with how much the movie adaptation and the casting are misunderstood. First, The protagonists of the original animation, The Avatar, are all Asian, indicated by their names, such as, Ang, Kitara, Sokka and Prince Suko. Nonetheless, the film's director has tried to make the main characters to be more westernized, although Shyamalan, denied the accusation and said that it is an own interpretation for the movie and thinks that the Anime characters don't particularly possess the Asian features( 2010, ¶8 ) . Plus, I think the direction and the screenwriting of the film were still unsuccessful and the story lacks its depth, the Rotten Tomatoes rated this movie only 6%, giving mostly negative reviews. I am actually an admirer of Shyamalan's works, like the Sixth Sense, Signs and the Happening, but I am sure this film is certainly not one of them. The Last Airbender's sequel is waiting for a greenlight from Paramount Picture, in fact, there will be two more as Shyamalan has planned for the trilogy. I sincerely hope they will make it, and that he will make such an improvement and produce great films that will make a die-hard fan, like me, jumping on the seat with excitement, just like before.

Will the tablets promote our creativity.

My academic interest is gadget technology. Someone may doubt whether gadget technology should be regarded as academic interest. I would like to note here that my interest in gadget technology is not mainly focus on technology advancement. Instead, I enjoy learning many things from this matter, including personal philosophy, history, business perspective as well as influences towards society. Here, I would like to relate this issue to academic aspect. This week, the news of technology that hits every media worldwide is nothing but news of unveiling of iPad 2, as reported by BBC news, "iPad tablet launched by Apple's Steve Jobs".

Apple chief executive Steve Jobs came back from medical leave to unveil a new version of the iPad, the promising tablet device that is expected to replace PCs in the near future. "We think 2011 is clearly going to be the Year of iPad 2," said Steve Jobs. The iPad 2 is thinner, lighter than the original version released last year and it was also claimed that it is dramatically faster due to the "A5 chip". The new iPad features front and back cameras for photography, movie-recoding and video chat. Besides the improved hardware, The iPad 2 offers "iMovie" video editing software, "GarageBand" music making suite and "Hot Spot" software that lets tablets access the Internet by synching wirelessly to iPhone smartphones.

Tablet PCs have been developed for more than a decade. But until Apple came out with its little iPad, this technology became to hit technological consumer as it is really practical for information consuming. Of course, tablets like the iPad are useful for consuming information, but I don’t think it is useful for creative process. Having tried using an iPad of my friend, I cannot deny that it is a great device for consuming media as well as information with much pleasure. But, if compared with laptops or PCs, it is not convenient for producing information or high quality sources of knowledge that require mouse, keyboard, more space of storage, and higher performance processor to manipulate them. That could be referred that the more people using the tablets there are, the less they are likely to produce documents, reports, news, and any information that we would like to be informed. I agree that blogging or commenting about certain issues on the net allow us think creatively and promote our thinking process for some extend, but if people post them by tablets, almost of that writing are less likely to be serious stories or good quality essays. It is because writing something on visual keyboard on tablets is not as convenient as doing that on a real keyboard of a PC. Thus, as this technology is becoming popular for our daily life, we will slightly be becoming information consumers rather than creators. Of course, tablet technology can offer us a lot of enjoyment, and I cannot deny its advantages of following updates, but how it is useful if, in the future, our young generation have only nonsense comments, not academic article to read.

Lady Gaga on runway

When I found this news "Lady Gaga make her catwalk debut at Paris Fashion week", I absolutely sure that this news is not ordinary. Gaga's name is usually know as a interesting or strange topic. Lady Gaga is a famous singer, and she is well known for her quirky style

Lady Gaga,24 years old single, has made her debut on the catwalk at Paris Fashion week during the Thrierry Mugler autumn/winter show.On the runway, Gaga was dressed in a sheer black top and painted-on pencil skirt ,and wore the towering platform shoes better than some of the more experienced models.During the show, she made a strange thing by puffed on a cigarette, blowing clouds of smoke towards photographers.Lady Gaga ends the show by walking to her singer Born this way as backing track.

After I finish the article, this news make me sure that Lady Gaga is really unique and extraordinary. When she appear in a public, she can attract an attention from everyone.Gaga is well known for a singer position , but I think because of her style, a queer costume and some behavior are made her more famous.Such as when she arrived in Japan, she wrote a massage to Japanese fans on her white Hermes purse ( I can clearly remember because I thought it's very crazy). In this time,Gaga appeared as model position ,and she didn't make the audience disappointed. On runway, Gaga made her prominent by puffed on a cigarette, blowing clouds of smoke towards photigraphers. In my view,Lady Gaga has quite strange personality. She is a fabulous singer and genius one. I can remember that my first time when I saw her music video "Bad romance", I thought that this music video is very freaky and little violence ( I think it's not suitable for young people),but the rhythm get stucked in my head. In my opinion,Gaga isn't a teen idol ,but she can make inspiration for many people.I have known that when Lady Gaga studied in university, she was an ordinary student. Nowadays, She different from the other artists and she doesn't care what other people think. If you ask me what do you think of when people say "Lady Gaga"?, my answer are a cool singer with quirky costume and the fabulous music video.

Traffic

Today I have read the BBC News report on “New cars in Beijing cut by two-thirds to battle traffic”. Even though this is old news but I just read it today. This news reminds me the memory when I went to China. I went to china with my family several times especially Beijing and Shanghai. One of the problems that I faced with was traffic congestion.

“New cars in Beijing cut by two-thirds to battle traffic” tells us about an effort of Chinese city authorities who try to reduce numbers of cars in the capital city of China – Beijing. Because of the huge numbers of cars in Beijing, it causes a serious traffic congestion and pollution in Beijing. “City authorities try to solve this problem by allow only 240,000 vehicles to be registered for 2011 - one-third of year 2010” (P 2). This new rule is not the way to solve problem but it just only the way to slow down the time to reach the worsening traffic congestion.

After I read this news I just come back to think about traffic congestion. Traffic congestion seems to be the major problem of people who live in big cities. I know it is really hard to find the right solution to solve this problem. Different countries have different policies to deal with this problem, but it still exists. Come to think about our country, in my opinion our country also try to solve this problem, even though our problem doesn’t sound big like China’s problem (because China has much more populations than Thailand),but this is also a big problem in Bangkok. People who live in Bangkok need to get up earlier than people who live in countryside because they have to fight with traffic before they can go to work on time. This must me really tired that you have to get up early in the morning and go to fight with traffic and when you go back home in the evening, you need to fight with traffic congestion again. It is really boring that you need to face with something like this every day. I think China’s policy is also a good idea; you just limit the number of cars per year. Somehow I also think about riding a bicycle instead of driving a car, but after I came to live in Bangkok, this is not a good idea anymore because the weather in Bangkok is very hot that is the reason why people don’t choose to ride a bicycle. Finally I hope that traffic problem could be solve by some solutions, they don’t need to be the same solution as other countries because I think each country should know the best which solution should be the best answer for problem.

Cancer 'is nation's biggest fear'

What kind of diceases that can make you fear for? For me is cancer. Cancer is one of the harmful diseases that can happen to everybody. So, we should keep updating about its news. As I find this article "Cancer 'is nation's biggest fear' in the BCC news, I would like to share with everyone.

The poll of more than 2,000 UK adults shows cancer is feared ahead of debt, knife crime and unemployment. According to cancer research UK, it is said that it was important for people to realise cancer is not inevitable. Half of all cancers could be prevented by healthy lifestyle changes. And even if a person does develop a tumour, if spotted early many cases can be treated to give a better chance of long-term survival. So, the department of Health is launching a campaign to raise awareness of the early signs and symptoms of the cancer to encourage people to seek medical advice as sson as possible

Nowadays, there are many product such as a cancer vaccine, and an cancer insurance. I can refer that a lot of people concern more about cancer. Cancer is a kind of disease that alomost everyone scared of ,including me. As I heard that the remedy is quite tough, and suffering. Furthermore, I heard that cancer can not be fully sweep away from your body. It can be dispersed to another organ in a body. I can tell that there is no way to have a hundred percent of recovery. All the sufferer have to do is to be alert to their health throughout of their life. From these reasons, almost of everyone feel paranoid of cancer. When you fear of something,no matter it is not happen to you, you feel depressed. Once you feel depressed, you will fear of it. According to this news, it is said everyone can prevent oneself from cancer by changing one's behavior to be healthy. At present time, you can find lots of healthy food available in anywhere such ar restaurant, and supermarket due to the healthy trend. Changing yourself to be healthy person sound more easy because of surrounding environment. Moreover, cancer can be curable if you find it in the early time. From my point of view,it is necessary to encourge people to have a body check-up at least two times per year in order to prevent yourself from harmful disease. Finally I would like to say there is always a solution for everything. Changing behavior to be healthy and body check-up are also a way to protect you from cancer. So, if you know what is the way to prevent yourself from cancer, why don't you start it now?

Worse than McDonald's

I happened to be visiting my family in Australia a couple of years ago when my youngest sister gave birth to my latest niece, and I was relieved to hear that she declined the hospital's offer of the placenta to consume or take away. This was what came to mind when I read the BBC News report "Breast milk ice cream goes on sale in Covent Garden" a few days ago. I immediately emailed it to myself as something I might like to read again, and perhaps blog on.

"Breast milk ice cream goes on sale in Covent Garden" tells us about Baby Gaga ice-cream, which is now available from a London restaurant. The desserts distinction is that it's made from fresh human milk, which is provided by women such Victoria Hiley, who welcome the £15 per 10 oz of fresh milk she provides to the restaurant. It's the idea of icecreamist Matt O'Conner, who, whilst admitting that some people think "Yuck", insists that "actually it's pure organic, free-range and totally natural" (¶ 8).

First, I have to admit that I'm one of those people whose first reaction was "yuck". It didn't sound as disgusting as eating the placenta, which has apparently become something of a fad in Australia at least, but it certainly didn't appeal to me as something I want to rush out and try, although I'm not sure that Häagen-Dazs or any of my usual ice cream shops are about to start offering it. But when I thought about it a bit more, I wondered about my own reaction - I did, after all, live on breast milk for the first few months of my life. I don't remember the details, but I'm pretty sure that my mother breast fed me for at least a few months. And of course, some of foods that I enjoy seem disgusting to others; for example, not all Thai people love the mouldy old blue cheeses that are a regular part of my diet, and although I've tried them, the deep fried grass hoppers that are readily available on the streets around my home do not excite me either, but just like fresh human milk, these foods are all nutritious, natural and perfectly safe to eat. The different feelings towards these foods are only a result of growing up in cultures with different customs, and are not obviously right or wrong, or better or worse habits than any other food custom. But I still don't want to try Baby Gaga.

A New Pollution for an Ancient Culture?

Although I read, or at least browse the front page of, The New York Times every day, I wouldn't normally read an article about the tasteless and low-class McDonald's; however, the title "Raising a Milkshake to the Bride and Groom" doesn't mention the word McDonald's, and it was in the Global Spotlight listings on the lead page, where it looked as though it might be relevant to cultural anthropology, which we have just started reading about in Quest. I'm glad I had a look.

In "Raising a Milkshake to the Bride and Groom", Joyce Hor-Chung Lau reports on the McWedding, a new service offered by the fast-food restaurant chain since October 10, last year. According to Lau, legislative changes to Hong Kong's marriage laws in 2006 make it possible for couples to wed in places other than religious venues or government offices, and McDonald's has now added this to its list of services. One attraction, Law writes, is that a McWedding is far less expensive than more traditional Hong Kong weddings; a further factor that makes it work in Hong Kong is the very different cultural perceptions of McDonald's in Hong Kong as compared with the US or other Western countries, where McDonald's is certainly seen as cheap, but in a very low-class, tacky and tasteless way. In Hong Kong, on the other hand, Lau quotes anthropologist Gordon Mathews who explains that since it's introduction in 1975, McDonald's has been seen "as a safe haven where students could study and stay off the streets" so that a whole generation of young middle-class people has grown up with positive feelings towards McDonald's (¶ 15). And McDonald's is also sensitive to the sales value of traditional "local customs, particularly Chinese numerology beliefs that determine the best dates for weddings or other important events" (¶ 9): the new service was introduced no October 1o last year because 10-10-10 is a lucky date, items can be numbered according to lucky numbers, and an appearance of traditional Chinese decoration is also blended with the symbolic McDonald's golden arches. Finally, Lau relates that its break "from strict cultural rules" (¶ 21) and tradition is an advantage for many people because it makes the wedding more relaxed and enjoyable, especially for the couple getting married.

I have eaten in McDonald's, but the last time was a long time ago. I guess I'm one of those Western people who think of McDonald's as low-class and nasty. When I was at university, I used to go to see new films at a cinema in central Sydney with a friend who was fond of a Big Mac afterwards. I preferred to visit one of the nearby Chinese or other restaurants, but every now and then I would agree to the cheaper Big Mac option and accompany my friend to enjoy the delights of McDonald's. Actually, the French fries weren't that bad; the trouble is that everything else was awful. But perhaps it's improved over the past 25 years or so. Maybe it's time I gave McDonald's another try. I don't care so much about it being low-class or non-traditional, but the poor quality did turn me off. On the other hand, I would agree with Mathew's that the reliable, clean and well cared for premises of every McDonald's outlet in the world do make them an easy, convenient and safe place to sit and relax. They are especially useful if you need a clean toilet, so although I haven't eaten in one for many years, I have occasionally popped in to avail myself of the air-conditioning and other reliefs.

Would I recommend McDonald's for a wedding? Perhaps not, although I wouldn't be surprised if one of my nephews or nieces opted for that in future. Perhaps because they've grown up with them, or simply because of effective advertising, McDonald's is probably seen less as low-class today than in teh past. I suspect that the biggest complaints against McDonald's today is that their food is seen as being unhealthy, especially as contributing to the growing obesity rates in Western countries. This is something that Lau also mentions in her article, but I would agree with the Chinese that it's not something worth too much worry. And it's definitely not fair to blame a business like McDonald's if you put on weight because you enjoy buying and eating their products - that would be as irrational and unfair as blaming alcohol companies for violence caused by whisky, Honda and Mercedes for car accidents, and drug dealers for addiction to alcohol, heroin or yaa baa.

When Jeremy, my 16 year old nephew, whose expectations now include of a large box of Krispy Kremes when his uncles visit, which I'm hoping will be a fad rather than a tradition, invites me slip into a T-shirt and jeans to celebrate his marriage in the local McDonald's, I will happily accept, even though it will mean buying a new outfit especially for the occasion. I'm not promising to eat a Big Mac, and I don't think I'll touch their sickly ice-cream, but the coffee isn't too bad as I recall, and the French fries used to be quite decent. Just as long as he doesn't insist on a wedding "cake" from Krispy Kreme.

Gloria' Academic Interests

I am interested in art and georaphy. When I was a child, I started leaning playingthe piano. So, I would like to talk about music.  Now I studey in a collge, my major is also related with art.

When I got to high school, I started learning geography. I woul like to learn the culture from dfferent cuntry.

Berm's Acadamic Interests

My academic interest is about Gadget Technology. Recently, technology go far beyond our expectation. A telephone have much more abilities to facilitate our tasks, such as organization, Internet browsing, etc. All of them make me excited especially what function will be added for the next generation of our gadgets. The development in this field is very competitive since the state of art of hardware as well as operational systems are required to satisfy people's desire. Following the strategies that make them happen would make me not only learn for technological advancement but also for the marketing and political aspects as well.

Peter's Academic Interests

My first academic sort of interest was probably botany, although I didn't know that word when I was ten years old. I used to like growing trees and things in pots. My first was little coral trees, which were very easy to grow - just stick a seed in some soil and they grew quickly, but the trees I really liked were the figs and oaks around my family home in teh country. These were much more challenging, and my pride and joy for many years was a fig tree seedling that I grew. It is now a very large tree at my mother's home.

When I got to high school, I learnt about science, and that became my love. I'd enjoyed reading in primary school, but didn't much enjoy school. Rather, I enjoyed school OK, but I didn't find anything we studied very exciting. At high school, that changed. I loved science. First biology, but over teh years, my interests changed from biology to chemistry to physics and finally mathematics. For the last years at high school, I spend much of my free time studying mathematics (I was a bit of nerd). And I continued studying mathematics at university.

however, whilst at high school, I'd also become interested in philosophy, and in the end, that is what I chose as my major at university, specializing in logic and moral philosophy. These days, I still read in both of these areas, and they have also led me to pursue interests in economics, history, psychology and other fields that relate to my primary areas of interest. Why philosophy? I think initially what attracted me was the promise of answers to the questions that I guess most people sometimes think of. Unfortunately, it's hard to come by answers, but I've never lost my interest in philosophy and continue to read new work in the field.

Kwang's Academic Interests.

My academic interest is something is related about cuisine. l love to read a magazine that contant about cooking especially dessert . It makes me enjoyable. I love cooking a dessert .I tried to cook strawberry cheese pies which I took a racipe from internet. It very well.

Lek's Academic Interests

This class I want to improve my english skill and need to more practice in writing and reading skill for study in the future that I think it is hard for me. I graduated from chulalongkorn university in the field of economics that gained knowledge in many subject such as Human resource management, Economic Development or Financial management. In the future, I will study an international business because I need to have my own business. However, at AUA, I get to know a new friends in the class that is funny. This is my good experience.

Bell's Academic Interests

My academic interests ia about craft. Craft is one type of Fine Art. I found it is very interesting. I enjoy doing craftwork especially bookbinding. Bookbinding is a kind of work that you have to create a book or a notebook by yourself. From cutting paper to sewing it. I learn how to do it by the internet, Youtube.com is a good teacher for me. There are many ways that you can sew your book such as case binding, japanese binding, coptic binding and so on. Before you want to do your handmade book, make sure that all of the materials are ready. These materials are bondfolder, a needle, and paper. After you have a necessary tools, you can start doing it.

Paint's Academic Interests

My Academic Interests

I am interested in speaking and listening that related with Business Administration because when I'm in the college, I've had study about business for many things. So, why that I interested in speaking cause is the travelling aboard or working with my Ex-boss then I used to speak English for long time in each day. About listening cause it's the fluence of native who speak English with me, then I can understand the meaning for 80% of that they talking about.

According to above I have to practise that both skill to improve myself , yes because I'm interested in with only both of this and I need more learning and enjoy while I do that, if I can enjoy to be a funny I think I'll improve myself to be better more than in this time that I expect it.So, that why I enjoy speaking and listening.

However, about Business Administration what is very hard study for me in Master Degree on aboard. That I have to do more and more of study of boyh skill to understand the meaning and Business's language to let know the subject.

Pete's Academic Interest

I am interest in many many things, it is arts especially in films, but I didn't find this out until I was in the last year of my collage term. In my high school time, I couldn't answer what do I really feel interested in, part of that because I was good many things. When I got into University, I gradually feel exhausted, my energy sunk down, my soul sucked out, I felt like a human machine. After I finished with the university, I realized I love films, because every time I saw movies I want to write, and that is life, that is my passion.

Milk's Academic interests

When I was 15 years old, I was always called an obese girl. So I tried to lose weight by many ways and I found that nothing was better than changing eating behavior. After i could reduce my weight from 75 to 60 kg, I promised with myself that I would study about nutrition in my bachelor degree. Last year, I graduated from faculty of Allied Health Sciences at Chulalonglorn University. My major is Nutrition and Dietetics. During 4 years in Bachelor degree, I earned more knowledge and experience about nutrition in healthy people and patients. That made me confirm my academic interest again because it was very challenging. Therefore, I'm going to study Master degree in Dietetics at Deakin University in Australia in June 2011.

Wow's Academic Interests

My academic interest is what I'm now interested in and about to study in the coming next 4 year. It's a Bussiness administration. Eventhough it's might sounds serious for a lot of you guys, for me it attracts me in few interesting ways.First of all the subjects ,Financial Analyist and investment ,Accounting and International bussiness, are all interesting and I always believe that I will all be useful for my upcoming carreer. As my father now run drinking water comapany,it would be a great chance for me to improve, expand and organize it to be better as a time go by. Bussiness Administration is not only about making money it also is a great way to improve my ability in many more fields.

Nan's academic interests

On Monday in our AEP RW class, we just talked about our academic interest. At the first time it was a little difficult to find out what exactly academic interest was, but after we find out, academic interest is simple. It is what you want to study normally in your university level (I'm not sure this is right or not but this is my understanding).

My academic interest is to studying about International Business because on my bachelor degree I studied about International business and I think that it was really interesting. I had a chance to learn many subjects for example business finance, accounting, economic etc. Even though I studied only the basic of each subject ( I mean, I didn't study in deep like people who are majoring in Finance or Accounting), but I found out that it was really funny. I think, I couldn't stand to study something in deep, I prefer to study variety kind of subjects so don't blame me if you are a person who think that study something in deep is better.

Ko's Academic Interests

My academic interests is about Business. Because I graduated about Business and I have a plan to do business. So I will study my master degrees next year. I interest business when I was high school. I always watched tv in every evening and I prefer to watched biz news everyday. It's made me understand and knew about economic in the world

Mike's Academic Interests

For me, my academic interest is an economic. Actually, when I was young, I thought economic was very hard to understand and complicated because I have to know about the whole country. But at this time, I want to know more about economic. Because,I think this can be useful in the future. So on, I will know how to deals with each economic situation. Also, I can make some advantage on some situations. Especially when you know that the inflation rate will rise up, I can manage my own life with these situation.
