Earth stongly disagree with the immorality of eating meat in Law’s essay
I disagree with Law’s essay about the immorality of eating meat. This is because the reason that Law try to convience me to believe is nonsense. We are living in ine diversification of the species. Each of them has difference functions in the ecology system. In the food chain, turkey are human food. They was born for our to eat. And this is the natural selection. Moreover,Law did not support his claim. For example,he said “we don’t need to eat meat to stay healthy”. However, there are many researches supported that animal proteins contained important nutritions which are essential for our health. Therefore,I am disagree with him.
Pin’s opinion about the morality of eating meat in Law’s essay
I disagree with Law’s essay about the immorality of eating meat. He has many strong points which can demonstrate obviously by using an example of mental impaired humans. However, there are two points which are still unclear.
First of all, in the topic of health and design, he says “we don’t need to eat meat to stay healthy”. It is wrong because a human being needs protein to survive and get healthy. Proteins are the most important nutrition. They are essential in the diet of humans for the growth and repair of tissue, especially when you get sick. Furthermore, in a basic of sciences, there is a food chain in the ecological community that constitutes a continuation of food energy from one organism to another as each consumes a lower member and in turn is preyed by a higher member. Therefore, it is morally acceptable that people who are the largest members of the world can eat meat.
The second point is that Law discusses the idea about animals which have no sense of right or wrong, so we cannot blame them for they kill and eat each other, not like humans. I do not think so, because animals have sense; such as dogs. They know who are their owners, so they will not kill people to eat, and they have sense of what species they can eat. On the other hand, tigers and other cruel animals hurt and eat humans; thus, why humans should not eat them.
All of these reasons; hence, it is morally acceptable that a human being cans eat meat.

Near disagree with Stephen Law on eating meat
His arguement is not convince me because i'm still believe in my mind that eating meat is not immoral. Most people can grow up and stay healthy because they had eat meat when they were child. Do you think if babies eat only vegetables and nuts or another kind of protein except meat, is it enough for grow up? Exactly no because children need a lot of protein to develop their brain and meat is full of protein that why people should eat meat. And do u think when Gemma was a child, is she eat meat? You can be a vegetarian if you are over 40 years but if you just 20, it's not good to be a vegetarian because you are too young. You still need meat to grow. Another point to consider is Priest also eat meat too. You know, Priest can't do anything that morally wrong that why they can eat meat? Just one answer because eat meat is not immoral.
Peter Disagrees with Stephen Law on Eating Meat
My first title for this post was "Why Peter disagrees with Stephen Law," but I wasn't happy with that because I don't actually want to tell you my reasons yet. The current title is the third one I thought of. I think it's a good title because it includes my name, it includes what I'm responding to, and it tells you my main idea about it.
But this is not an academic writing, so I think it's OK not to present my supporting reasons. In his essay, Law makes a very strong argument to support his main idea, that it is morally wrong to eat meat (2003). If you disagree with him, then you need a strong reason to support your idea that Law is wrong. I'll tell you mine later. I want to see what your ideas are first.
In the last blog, when we just shared ideas responding to the introduction, one argument that got a lot of attention, including the citation of a some sources, was that it's acceptable to eat meat because we need it to be healthy. As you will have realised when you read pages 138 - 9, Law discusses this idea, and concludes that it is wrong: we do not need to eat meat to be healthy, so it cannot be morally right to eat meat because we need it: we don't.
So, if you disagree with Law, what's your reason? Where is Law wrong?
If you do agree with him, how do you feel about that? Are going to change your eating habits?
Respond to the ideas in Law's essay in a new post of your own.

Pin's Academic Interests
I am a pharmacist. I am interested in Pharmaceutical Sciences because I would like to study about medicines and illness. After my graduation, I planned to have my own drug store, but I changed my mind to work at Pharmaceutical company in order to gain some experience. The three years working in the company has been giving me more rounded experience because apart from a regular updating the pharmaceutical knowledge to the medical practitioners, I was required to be responsible in work administration and management also. After sometimes in the work function, I feel that there is something that I’m eagerly to know and learn more. That is Cosmetic Sciences which I am interested in every aspects starting from production, quality evaluation as well as product formulation research and development. Thus, I plan to study Master degree in Cosmetic Sciences next year in Europe where is a famous place in this field. Ultimately, my dream is that I will research and develop new cosmetic products in my own business.

Carving up roast animals: What do you think?
Read the following introduction to "Carving the Roast Beast", a sixteen page essay and dialogue by Stephen Law.
Every year in the UK, more than 25 million turkeys are killed for our Christmas dinner. Is this mass slaughter justifiable merely to satisfy our preference for a certain kind of meat? Shouldn't we be carving nut cutlets instead? The Wilson family are sat around the Christmas dinner table. Dad is carving the turkey when he glances a little apprehensively at his eldest daughter, Gemma.Mr. Wilson: Some turkey, Gemma?Gemma: Of course not. You know I'm a vegetarian.Mrs Wilson: Only since last week. And it's Christmas. Can't you join in just this once?Gemma: No. It's morally wrong to eat meat. I'm not going to do something morally wrong just to make you happy.Much the same conversation will be familiar to parents around the world. Teenagers are increasingly becoming vegetarians, often on moral grounds. It can be irksome for the parents: special meals have to be cooked and time and effort put into making sure that their offspring get a balanced diet.Still, while Gemma's views might be inconvenient, that doesn't make them mistaken. And in fact Gemma does have some rather good arguments up her sleeve. (Law, 2003, pp. 124 - 5)
Now, in a comment below, write your response to the topic and main idea of Law's sixteen page essay. Although I've asked you to respond to Law's topic and main idea, this is a response writing, so we can be pretty flexible. The important thing is to respond to the reading in sentences that clearly state your ideas.
I suggest you write for five to ten minutes without stopping, and then publish your comment.
You can also respond to a classmate's comments if you thought it was interesting. You might think it was interesting because you agree or because you disagree with your classmate, or for any other reason.
You can leave as many comments as you like.
You do not have the next fifteen pages of Law's essay: that is not a problem. Don't worry: I'll give you the full essay tomorrow, after everyone has written their response to the introduction above.

Kate's Academic Interests
I graduated from the Faculty of Commerce and Accountancy, Chulalongkorn University, major in Banking and Finance. For the reasons why I choose to study this major, firstly I was interested in investment in stock market but I had no idea about how to choose a good stock to invest. Secondly, I think financial background is necessary to run my own business into the future. I think finance is more difficult than other areas if I have to study it by myself. So, I decided to study in this field.
After I graduated, I also worked in finance and accounting departments because I want to know do I really like this field? But after I worked, I can realize that I don't want to work in this field anymore. But I'm interested in marketing job. So, for my master's degree, I will not certainly choose to focus on finance.

Peter's Academic Interests
Today, my main areas of academic interests are philosophy and science. Actually, I loved science from high school when I first started to study it at school. At first, I was mainly interested in biology: I read my school science books, got books from the library on plants, fungi, and other topics in biology, and grew trees and other plants at home. This was when I was 12 years of age. I also liked mathematics because it was so sure. Subjects like English seemed vague and mysterious to me, but in mathematics, we knew things 100%, and it was amazing how it started with a little bit and built complex theorems on it. I had some problems in geometry because my teachers didn't like my drawings, but that was their problem. I think they were bad teachers because they worried about things that were not important, like looking neat and pretty.
At university, I began a science degree with majors in physics and mathematics, but at teh end of high school, I had already started to read philosophy and study languages, so I changed my degree, and majored in philosophy and mathematics, with a couple of dead languages. These were not very useful subjects to study for getting a job, but I'm glad I studied them. Today, I still read a lot in philosophy and I also like to keep up with progress in science, as you can see from some of the magazines I recommend: New Scientist, and Scientific American, for example.
In philosophy, my main areas of interest are moral philosophy, but at the moment I'm also reading a lot in philosophy of mind, which is about questions like teh nature of human consciousness, whether we have minds, how could free will exist, and things like that.

Welcome to Reading and Writing 4, term 6, 2009
Welcome to Reading and Writing Level 4 in AUA's Academic English Program.
As we've discussed in class, Quest has both formal academic writing exercises and less formal response writing exercises in every chapter (Hartmann, 2007). During this six week term, we will regularly be doing both kinds of writing.
We will also be reading: both the readings in Quest and a variety of outside readings.
Blogging is a valuable tool for both reading and writing, and we will be blogging every week. Most of the blogging you do will be less academic than the academic writing assignments I give you: it will often be a written response to something you have read, rather than a carefully planned piece of work. However, on some issues, you might want to think a little more, and even cite supporting sources for points you make in a blog post or in a comment on a classmate's post.
If you've never blogged before, don't worry. After the first time or two, it will be easy and you can start playing around with the tools on offer.
It's also OK to have fun with your blogging.
When you are looking around, you might be interested in some of the tools I've put on the right:
- Recent Topics gives links to information and notes about blog topics on which to write
- What's on at AUA is a calendar with term dates and other timely information
- Daily Updates gives links to feeds from some newspapers and magazines
- Useful Links for AEP students are links to some online dictionaries and other resources
- Looking for Something to Read takes you to a range of quality international newspapers and magazines (there are many more - those selected are just a few that I regularly read)
- Members is the list of current AEP students who can post to this blog. After you join, you're name will be there.
- and the archive of posts, and so on

Are Britain's Doctors right or wrong?
The British Medical Association, the largest organisation of doctors in Britain, has today called for a total ban on the advertising of all alcohol products ("Doctors want booze", 2009). This would be similar to the total ban on advertising cigarettes that now exists in many countries.
- Do you agree with the British Medical Association and the 141,000 doctors that it represents in Britain?
- Should your country impose a similar ban on the advertising of alcoholic drinks?
- Do you agree with the current total ban on cigarette advertising?
- How did you decide whether or not you agree? What are important issues here?
Please share your ideas in a comment, or several comments, below.
As you read your classmates' commments, you are welcome to support opinions you agree with, and to oppose opinions that you think are wrong.

Is the Supreme Court right or wrong?
Argentina's Supreme Court has recently ruled that personal marijuana use must be legal in many cases under the Argentine constitution ("Argentina rules", 2009). This means that laws made the Argentine government which make such personal use illegal are themselves illegal and must not be enforced. Effectively, this ruling legalizes most personal use of marijuana in Argentina.
- Do you agree with the Supreme Court judges? Should they have made marijuana use legal?
- Should Thailand's Supreme Court do the same for Thai citizens who personally wish to use marijuana?
Please share your ideas on this in a comment below.
You are welcome to argue for or against the opinions of classmates.
