Discussion. 3: adolescent drug use. Quest 2, "Drug Use and Abuse Worldwide"

Hartmann’s reading in Part 2 of Chapter 7, “Drug Use and Abuse Worldwide” (2007, pp. 203 - 211) discusses several addictive substances and their use in several countries. Before we read it, we want to see what ideas we already have so that we can check them as we read the text. This is the purpose of the prediction making exercise C. on page 204, which we are doing here.

Response write on the following question:
  • 3. What illicit drugs are used by adolescents?

  1. I guess, but don't know, that marijuana is the most popular illegal drug for teenagers in Australia. Alcohol is probably the most commonly used addictive drug, but it's not illicit, even though selling it to children is.

    1. I think this situation it's same here but It's quite different in Holland because the people can easily find some weeds to smoke in the cafe.

  2. I always hear about using yaa-love from TV or news in Thai teenagers, but I don't what is the exact name of this drug, so I think yaa-love is the most popular illegal drug for Thai teenagers. This drug seems like to be used in the club or night club, where this drug are easy to buy and consume.

    1. I ever heard about yaa-love before. But I'm also not sure what it is and what exact name of it. Anyway, I think alcohol is the most popular illegal drug for Thai teenagers more than yaa-love. As you can see on Songkarn festival, most of the teenagers consume alcohol and not afraid that they will seizures by the police. Then they do some social troubles such as fighting. Even though most seller know that alcohol is illegal to sell to the teenagers, but some of them ignore it and sell alcohol just for the money. I think this is the serious problem of Thai population that we should focus on.

    2. Firstly, marijuana is the first respond to this question, but after reading through comments of you two, I have changed my mind. I agree with Chanan Ch or Prae about alcohol. It also significantly links to cigarette use because both of them easily access by teenagers.
By the way, "Ya-love" might might be more likely used by teenagers who like going to nightspots.

  3. I agree with you that marijuana is the most teenagers using it in Australia. I want to add a citation from Chicago Tribune 2012 and an author provides that a lot of American people, especially young, deal with this illegal drug -- marijuana.

  6. On just reading Hartmann's "Drug Use and Abuse Worldwide" again to check my answers, I disagree with what she clearly expects the "correct" answer to this question to be.

What do you think? Do you agree with Hartmann?
What do we need to do to make Hartmann's expected "correct" answer actually a correct answer? (Should I have asked: What should Hartmann have done?)
