Discuss this question in a comment below.
  • What insects to you have in your area? What problems can they cause?
You have ten minutes to respond in a comment. I suggest you brainstorm on a scrap of paper for two minutes before writing for about eight minutes.

  4. There are a lot of insects in Thailand such as ants, flies, termites, and cockroaches. They disturb our daily life. For example, flies make your food contaminated when they touch your food. You maybe sick. Ants can bite you and steel your sweets. Termites can destroy your wooden house or your books. My books used to be destroy by the termites. For cockroaches, they are dirty and can make you sick like flies. They are annoyed because their random movements.

To sum up, I think some of the insects are causes of illness and destroy our properties.

  7. There is a number of cockroaches residing in the area where I lived. This insect usually lives inside the house especially in the kitchen area. It crawls through dirty areas outside and drag those bacteria and germs to us by walking around our house. Cockroaches can contaminate foods which could cause serious health problems. My pet sometimes eat them and drag the bodies around causing unpleasant smell around the living areas. These insect can only be get rid of by repellent spray which also cause side effects to our health as well.

In my area, there are mayflies, the insects like to play with light. In the raining day, they appear around the lightbulbs so I have to turn off the light to chase them.I can do nothing except waiting them go out because they are disgusting and annoying. After they are out, lots of their wings fall on the floor, some of them climb without the wings and waith for death.I exactly don't understand with thier nature. Are they just live to fly around lightbulbs ? However,I have to deal with them by turnig off all lights in my home on the raining day before they come.

  9. The first insect I though of was mosquitoes, although I'm not sure that there are in my area, which is Silom Road. I'm sure that there are a few mosquitoes around, but I don't notice them much in my condo. Maybe they can't fly that high. I do notice them if I'm at Lumpini Park in the late afternoon, and I guess that's part of my area. But the real reason I though of mosquitoes is that they can cause serious problems. One of my friends, a colleague at AUA, had dengue fever recently. This is serious disease spread by mosquitoes, which I suspect are more common in his area of Bangkok. He was very ill for a few days and it took him more than two weeks to really recover and get back to work.

The other obvious insect in my area are the cockroaches. I don't know how serious the problems they cause are, but they are disgusting creatures. It's impossible to walk down Silom Road in the evening, or along my soi at any time, without seeing a lot of cockroaches. They even invade AUA! Fortunately, my condo doesn't have too many, but they are there. I think it would be impossible to stop them invading from the surrounding soi and market, which provides them, and the rats, with lots of food. I think they carry diseases, but I'm not sure how dangerous they are. I am sure I don't want them in my home, or crawling around AUA.

Another insect I've seen are ants, although not for a while at my home.

  10. There are a lot of mosquitoes in my area, Khlongtoey District. My house locate near to the swamp. So it is a proper area for these tiny insects to grow their population therefore the number of mosquitoes has never been reduced. When I was 12 years old, I used to be dengue fever. I had high fever and I had to stay in hospital around 17 days. Furthermore, Mosquitoes can cause another disease such as Zika Virus, Malaria, etc. Malaria had killed more than 400,000 people each year.

  11. There are lots of mosquitos in the area where I am now living. I hate them very much as they keep sucking my blood every time when I wear in short. We do spray insecticide almost every day but that chemical substance can only temporary stop them, therefore we’ve decided not to use it as it is not good for our health, but protecting ourselves by wearing long sleeve shirt and pants.
