Game boys addict

Atnoon, I saw this interesting article in Bangkok Post News. The title is "Game boys lost in online world" (2009). I though it was interesting because this is phenomenon ploblem for young people who is growing up. According to the National institue for Child and Family Development (NICFD), under Mahidol University, which study on this issue last year, a young people under age twenty are large group whose addicted to the computer games. Even though, the government has set many conditions to solve this ploblem but it stills happen because that conditions are not strictly regulation.

I think this ploblem is interesting with every person who have kids. Many parents try to avoid their kids away from vedeo games and internet cafe. It seems common ploblem has happening in thai socity but it can become a big ploblem in the future because the child can become hyperactive and unsocial able.

  1. I don't agree. Millions of Thai kids play computer games and have no problems at all. Parents worry, and that worry is often wasted. When I was growing up, they worried that TV would destroy their children, but it didn't. Some children do become addicted, but what percentage? I think it is only a small number, and the government is wrong to make laws preventing all children from playing games. This is not something the government should interfere in. It is the parents job.
It's the same with alcohol and other drugs. A very few people who use drugs such as beer, wine and whisky become addicted, and it is morally wrong for the government to punish all drug users because a very few have a problem.
There is no good evidence that society will have large future problems if kids are allowed to play games, even violent games, and there is no good evidence that games cause hyperactivity or unsocial behaviour. If that is what the article said, it is wrong.
And the government should not set conditions to solve the problem.

  2. I agree with my government. I think the group of kids who like to play internet game get bigger. Even though, Children come from poor families. They will find some money anyway they can do to pay for the games onlines. I heard about some kids they steal money from their parents and some kids sell drugs to get money. It is time to control and solves this problems. My opinion, The game online is not a bad thing, but we need to watch what is kind of the game. It is good way to play games onlines, if they can help kids to learn and created new thing.

  3. How big is the group of children playing internet games? How many steal from their parents to get money to play? What percentage is that?

Some people use privately owned cars to rob banks, so should all private cars be banned to stop that?

In the South, some people use mobile phones to detonate bombs, so should mobile phones be banned in Thailand to stop that problem?

I agree that there is a problem for a very small number of people, but I disagree with Biab that it is OK for the government to punish everyone because a very few people do something wrong. That does not sound fair to me.

And what is wrong with playing games that are just fun? Isn't that a good reason for doing something, that we want to enjoy our lives?

  4. In my opinion, A ways to solve this problem is their family. I agree with Peter but not disagree with the others. Family just give them more care give them more time. I think that enough to solve this problem. All of my high school friends addicted online game so much but they just know themself and everythings will be better.
