Those cigarette manufactures is using a cartoon character in their advertisements must stop this kind of advertisement because it affects the children in the bad way.
Mostly children love cartoons, and of course when they see the cartoon advertisement of cigarette they will be attracted. Children are innocent and easily to imitate whatever they see or watch. For example: when my cousin was younger than now he watched superman and wanted to fly same as superman so he jumped from the tree about 2,5 meters high to the ground and almost got broken leg but he was fortunate so he just got a sprain ankle. In the same way, if children see this kind of advertisement they may imitate what they see without consciousness. In addition, when we get older our interests in cartoon are less then when we were children or no more interest in cartoon for some adults. Why do these cigarette manufactures use cartoons in their advertisement when their target customer is adult, not children.
In short, children are very easy to imitate whatever they observe so cigarette advertisement with cartoons in its is not good at all for children because cartoon is what children are interested in the most.

Do our interests in cartoons decrease as we age? I think the success of animated films such as Animal Farm (deifnitely not a kids movie) and others shows that cartoons can also attract adults. And aren't the cartoons in daily papers as much for adults as children? Would children even be interested in cartoons such as Dilbert? (Dilbert is one of my favourites. It's online at http://www.dilbert.com/strips/)
ReplyDeleteIf the cigarette company uses an adult cartoon figure, to target adults, would you object to that?
Usualy I see adutls aren't interested in cartoon asmuch as children. The film Animal Farm or Up attract adult because of their content. I think adults are interested in cartoon because of the story about it but not because of its figure, but children are interested in the figure of cartoon. whatever it looks strange, funny and beautiful children will like it so they would be interested in Dibert as well because his figure look funny.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it is not reasonable to advertise cigarette by cartoon at all even though it's an adult cartoon figure.
I think the manufacturers should not be allowed to use an adult cartoon figure to promote their product too. Because, as An has said, children love cartoon. When they see a cartoon characters, even though those characters are not the ones that they know or are familiar with, they usually have good impression about them. Usually cartoon characters looks cute and symbolizes friendliness and humor in children mind. It could cause children to develop a good impression on smoking in their mind.
