Trimming the fat

A little more on weight control, which is what caught my eye when I was looking at New Scientist this morning. The title, "For a trimmer figure, add an extra helping of gut bugs", suggested what I found in the article, that the bacteria in our digestive system play a vital role in health, including, it would appear, in weight control.
But it wasn't this weight control itself that prompted this post. What was more impressive was that the researchers found that the Lactobacillus gasseri bacteria added to yoghurt was particularly effective at reducing the most dangerous sort of fat, the visceral fat that surrounds internal organs.
As I was reading, I was reminded of Ann's comments on the importance of eating a well balanced diet. The results also seem to confirm the idea that natural foods have much going for them, although it wasn't clear
