Introducing Sofia

Hello!

My name is Sofia Domashenkina. I was born in the Far East of Russia and my parents still live there. However, I love traveling and want to improve the condition of my life so I moved to the bigger city Novosibirsk after graduating of my university and later moved to Thailand. I have been living in Bangkok for 2,5 years with my husband and cat. We moved here because my husband Denis got a job offer from the Siemens Company. Actually, this was not sudden event because we wanted to move to some warm country near a sea so we were looking for a such place.

I am a housewife and a student of AUA school now. Before the moving I had worked for 3 years in an office in a sales sphere. During my basic work I started to teach women pole dance, strip plastic and stretching. Pole dance became my main job from the hobby and I have not stopped doing this activity in Bangkok. If you do not know what pole dance is you can watch the video:

"Pole Art" is the most famous world championship of pole dance in the artistic style. I am not so professional like this girl but watching such videos inspire me. Also I can dance and teach an exotic pole dance (this style includes less tricks and more sexy movements in high heels).

Generally, I listen to music as a complement during driving a car, doing a housework or like songs for my dancing. My favorite song is "Radioactive" by the band "Imagine Dragons". I like this music band and especially their front man Daniel Reynolds. He is talented and handsome guy. "Radioactive" is special and memorable for me because my first dance public performance was shown to this song.

Introducing Oil

Good morning, my name is Ekamanee. You can call me Oil. My birthday is 4 July 1996. I'm 23 years old. I just graduated Bachelor Degrees from Thammasart university in last year. My major is Law.

I was born in Bangkok. I've lived with my family. There are 6 people in my family; my mother , my father and three older brothers. So, I'm the youngest daughter in my family. Now I'm studying Law program at Netibundit Thai. As I told you that I want to be a Judge. I think it is a big dream that almost all of people who studying Law are want to be. That's why I must take a lot of time for reading books . However, in my free time I like to bake and cook. I think baking and cooking can make me feel relaxed and when I saw the others enjoyed what I cooked it make me feel proud and very happy. Mostly I like to bake cookies and cakes because I love the sweet things especially everything about chocolates. Have you ever heard that the woman and dessert are like a couple?

Moreover, one of my favorite activities in my free time is watching the movie and listening to music. Normally, I always listen thai pop music. But recently I just listened this song and then it becoming my favorite song. The song name is 'let her go' from the band ‘Passenger’. Obviously it quit old song and popular music but I like the meaning in the lyric. The lyric told that ‘you will never know the value of something until it's gone’ and I think so too.

Introducing mod

Hello, my name is Phornaphat Thampasato my nickname is mod. I was born on April 27th 2004 so 15 years. Now I am living in Bangkok, Thailand my family that contains my parents my brother my sister and me and right now I studying in grade 10 at Saint Joseph Convent school. My personality is friendly with everybody that I think they are kind and give honour to me but in contrast, the kind of person that I don't like at all is the person who not respect me and people who see me like a toy that they can do anything to me by ignoring my feeling.

The hobbies that I spend in free time are listening to the ASMR on YouTube because it makes relaxing and the ASMR channel that I want to present is "ASMR Sita Sofia" that I watching her every single day before going to the bed. Sita is half -Thai,half-Fin now she living in Finland but she can speak Thai very well and her pronunciation in Thai quite clearly but the main reason that I supporting her is she has a beautiful voice that makes me sleep easily. And sometimes I will watch the horror and thriller movies and the movie I guarantee that is the best horror movie is "texas chainsaw" that you want to prove by yourself.

My favourite song is "Boyfriend" by Ariana Grande, Social House. The reason that I like this song is because of the sound(at the beginning) in this song so different from another song so it makes this song so interesting and I think the lyric so modern. But the best thing that makes me like this song is the artist "Ariana Grande" she is the most influential woman and the most beautiful woman in the world that makes me ecstatic in her.

introducing Peter (2)

I've already introduced myself just below for the weekend IELTS class I'm teaching, so I don't want to repeat what's there. I didn't talk about my daily life now in the previous blog post, so that might be a useful topic for this one.

My daily life is fairly simple and regular, and I like that. When I was younger, I liked a bit more excitement, but these days, something that might seem a bit boring suits me well. It's comfortable. I'm woken every morning by my phone at 5:55 AM. This means I need to go to bed by 11:00 PM. Actually, I aim to go to bed at 10:00 PM, with another reminder from my phone, but I usually read a bit or watch something silly on NetFlix to relax before sleep, which usually makes it 11:00 or later before I actually go to sleep. I always start the day with a large, black coffee. This has been my habit for more than 40 years, which gives you some indication of my minimum age. While I'm having my morning coffee, I read a couple of newspapers and magazines on my computer, and perhaps write a few quick responses to things there. If it's a workday, which is every day except Friday, I then start preparing for my classes that day. I've usually prepared before because I like to be prepared, but often I get a new idea and revise my lesson plans or materials. And then off to work, or to lunch or something with friends if it's my day off.

One of my favourite pieces of music is Mozart's Flute Concerto No. 1 (K. 313). I had to change it from "my favourite" to "one of my favourites" because I realised after the fourth revision that I could not pick one. Although I also like a lot of songs, I had no trouble picking Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" as my favourite. My first thought in class was Vivaldi's Four Seasons, which was the first piece of classical music I studied, but it's not really my favourite. Then I thought of Mozart's masses, symphonies and operas. I finally settled on this one because it's so cheerful. I used to play the flute a long time ago, and the performances of this work by people like James Galway inspired me. This performance on YouTube is one I didn't know before. In contrast with a recording of Galway, this one is a video of the life performance. I hope you enjoy it. I think it makes a nice contrast to the operatic rock song by Queen in my post below.

Introducing Mook

My name is Jiraporn Thongkliang. So you can call me Mook. I'm 24 year old and I just graduated from Chiang Mai University in degree of Business Administration. By the way, I had to graduate last year but I got the scholarship to be a Exchange student at Malaysia for 5 monts that why it make me graduate late more than another person in the same level.

In the last year before I graduated, I got to know the program name is "Work and Travel" that take the student who would like to exchange culture, work and travel in the same time at USA before graduate. That makes me want to get more experience for my life. Although it will makes me late with my friend in the same level in work life but I thought I will get another experience that will make me get to learn more the real world. Luckily, I lived at New York which is the best place for me to learn culture from people who came from different country. I got a lot friends and we can exchange culture each other. It's a great opportunity and great time for me to joined this program. And This is a video in my YouTube channel that I would like to show how is my life when I stayed there for "Work and Travel Program at New York with J1 VISA"

And the last thing, This is my favorite song "Senorita" by Shawn Mendes and Camila. I knew this song when I stayed at New York. The people at there mostly can speak Spanish and I remember one time had someone called me Senorita. It means Miss in Spanish and my work place always open this song that make me remember this song. Moreover, 2 years ago, I heard the voice of him from TV show when I knew this song by him that make me more like this song.

Introducing Aom

My name is Aom. In my free time, I like to read novels or watching TV series, animations, and movies on Netflix. It helps me to practice both English and Japanese, especially by watching Japanese animations in Japanese soundtrack with English subtitles. I like to watch western TV Series such as SHERLOCK, Stranger Things, or The Haunting of Hill House, to help me not forgetting English since I have less opportunity to use it after I graduated from university. My favorite genres are investigation, horror, and thriller, Especially investigation movies, I like to do brainstorming, pick up the clue, guess about the end of the story, and see if I can guess it right.  I always feel excited even if it didn't end as I thought it would be. But this feeling never happens to me when I watch romance movies. I always fall asleep even before I can finish it.

Besides reading books and watching the series, my other hobby is playing games. I am currently playing Final Fantasy XIV. This game is an online game but the system and the playstyle are not as same as the other online games. Since it's not a "Pay to Win" game, all you can do to be able to get an upper hand is paying on your own afford. If you want to have high-grade items, you have to pass End Game Contents or craft it yourself. The other thing I like about this game is, the social in the game. You can't be rude to other people or you will get reported to the game-master, and there will be a helper for you to finish old content which is nice and convenient. Also, the background music is good. It comes together with deep stories and great graphic design which made the game is more enjoyable.

My favorite song is "Mic Drop (Steve Aoki Remix)" by Korean boyband called BTS. They are not my favorite artist, but I do like some of their songs. is an energetic hype song that got inspiration from former US president Barack Obama's mic drop at his final White House Correspondents' Dinner in 2016. The reason why I like this song is the instrumental's tempo that started with slow progresses and then changed into a fast speed that rouses you to feel excited. Some people might think it sounds so cheesy slow hip-hop with many types of beat from the synthesizers and a snare drum. But to me, it doesn't sound that cheesy. Also, the choreography and the rhythm of their rapping got along so well with the instrumental became a main factor for me to enjoy the video. Another reason why I like this song is the lyrics telling you that you no need to pursue talking to someone who dislikes you, just let your achievements say it out loud for you instead.

(There is another version which is "Mic Drop (featuring Desiigner) (Steve Aoki Remix)" but it is not an official video so I switched it with an official one. But if you want to give it a try, you can also go to try it out.)

Introducing Non

My name is Kritratt Worakuntadatison and my nickname is Non, you can call me that. I have 2 older bothers and 1 older sister. I'm currently studying Economics at Thammasat University. When i was studying in a high school, Satit Chula, I used to play it with one of my close friend after class like 3-4 days a week but after my entrance exam I haven't played it since then.

Next, talking about reading. My favorite book is a Psychology book called "Mind Set"  by Carol S. Dweck. It's mainly explain how thought affects us. Why people think differently for example some people may ok with lose but for some people lose is unacceptable. At first I don't really interested in this book I was forced to read this book by my teacher as it will be in the test. But after I read for a bit it, I find this book is nice and I really enjoyed it. One of the main reasons is  this  book help me understand people's action and some of the cases inside are what I had faced before.

As I mentioned above one of my hobbies is listen to musics. So let's talk about music for a bit.  My favorite song is "Fool Again" by the pop band Westlife. I know this song from my friend, Ohm. He recommended me this song when I was 14 or maybe 15 I'm not so sure. When i first serched for this song, I hadn't heard Westlife before and I didn't even know they are well-known. And after i listened, I felt really like this song and it have become my favorite song since then

Next year I will travel to Germany for my cousins wedding, I am very excited for this. I am trying to further my English studies as I prepare to go to university next year to study hospitality and tourism management. I think this will be a good course for me as I have enjoyed working in the hospitality industry for many years in various roles. My favorite movie is “ IN TIME” I like this movie because, in the movie they used the time instead of money, when you go to work they give you time which you can use to live day by day, if you don’t have time you will die. This movie teach me Time is worth than money and what you like to do you can do now not waste your time. When I have spare time I like to watch Volleyball and MuayThai. In school when I was younger I played volleyball regularly but now not so much. I like to train Muay Thai in the gym for fitness.

My favorite song is "Fix you" by the band Coldplay. I heard this song the first time from my brothers room first and I like the melody and I want to know what the name of the song is and what the meaning is. I like this song because, the melody so beautiful and a lot of meaning. The Lyrics talk about the tough in life everyone had it before. I think that is why this song became famous for the band. I like a lot of songs from Coldplay like Hymn for the weekend, Paradise and Avenger of the lifetime. A sky full of stars’ is another Coldplay song I like, it has kind of fun melody but the lyrics very sad. There are so many songs that I like from this band, I like the melodies and his voice as I find it relaxing.

This band come from smartphone Japanese rhythm game called "Bang Dream : Girl's Band Party" this band's song always get to the top of the ranking chart every week it released. Lyrics is mostly about the ambition of the singer and it is very beautiful lyrics worthy enough to read the translation.

Introducing Byte

My name is Lalitphat or you can call me Byte, which means a unit of data. I knew it sounds weird and you may wonder where did it come from. I actually got this nickname because my dad is a programmer. Thai nicknames are usually not related to the first or last names, they are just a made-up name given to a child by their parents.

Last year, I just graduated with a bachelor of science degree from Thammasat University but now I'm a PhD student at Chulalongkorn University. My major is Materials Science which is about the study of a new kind of materials or a process that improves materials to have a better performance. I chose this major because I find it is rewarding to create something that can impact society and improve our daily lives. Furthermore, I want to promote my research and transform it into innovation.

As a college student, I once questioned myself on how I would find a meaningful opportunity, and most importantly, how it would benefit me. Throughout my life experience, I have found that an exchange program is one of a great opportunity to see the world. Many people that I have known have gained a new perceptive and change their way of thinking after join one of the exchange programs. Therefore, I planned to find a research scholarship and joy in an exchange program next year.

Recently, I have found that podcasts are very interesting, and I listen to a podcast every day. My favorite podcast is “คำนี้ดี” from The Standard. It is actually a Thai podcast, but they have some of it's in English too. It has many talks about vocabulary that we can learn from books, news, internet and etc. I have like many other podcasts, such as Super Productive, Readery, The Secrets Sauce and The Power Game, all from The standard. Because I can learn a lot of new things in topics of business,  politics and how to manage yourself from their experience and talks, I really loved it.

คำนี้ดี

Other than podcasts, I also like to listen to music. My favorite song is "Sue Me" by Sabrina Carpenter. I accidentally heard it from my friend phone’s and cannot get it out of my head after that. It is such a fantastic beat. I like the instrument and her charming voice even though it is the first time I heard it.

Introducing Miw

My name is Mesayanee Kethom, you can call me Miw. I am 19 years old. At present, I am studying at Faculty of Commerce and Accountancy, Thammasat University. My program is called IBMP which is Integrated Bachelor's and Master's degree program in Business and Accounting. Actually, my hometown is in Saraburi but now I live in Bangkok alone for studying. I go back home once or twice a month. There are 5 people of my family which consists of grandmother, father, mother, younger brother and I. I think my mother is talented in cooking. The food which she cook is the reason why I want to go back home every single day. My favorite mother's dish is chilli paste with fried mackerel (or it's called Nam prik in Thai). I always eat it with boiled vegetable. In my free time, I like listening to music and watching movies on Netflix. I like to watch romantic comedies movies, such as Notting Hill, Clueless, Wild child and Under the Tuscan sun, because It helps me relieve.

My favorite series is "The Crown". It is a historical series about the reign of Queen Elizabeth 2. Acting, costume and other component parts are marvelous. The scenario is fascinating thus I can't wait to watch season 3. At present, I'm addicted to Korean series called "Vagabong". The story is about the man who lost his nephew because of a mysterious plane crash, he and some people from NIS attempt to find the real cause of accident. Level of exciting constantly increases in every episode. I can't guess how this series will end.

My favorite song is "Young" by ADOY. First time I heard this song, I suddenly fell in love with it. I love every elements of this song, especially the music video which is very creative. Every scene is so adorable. I really into it. ADOY is an electronic rock band from Seoul, Korea. They are one of my favorite band. I just went to their concert, which was second concert in Thailand, last Friday. It was the best show I have ever seen. "Robber" by The 1975 is another one of my favorite song and The 1975 is my favorite band too. I am always surprised by their song.

Introducing Peter

As you know, my name is Peter and I'm your teacher. Although I live in Thailand now, and have for many years, I'm not from Thailand but Australia, where I was born last century into a family living in the country in northern New South Wales. My family were farmers, although they also had some business interests. This was because my grandparents and their parents, my great grandparents, started farming when they arrived in Australia from Italy in the 1880s. Of course, grapes were planted first. They had brought cuttings from the grape vines in Italy, and when they arrived in the Australian bush, they cleared a bit and planted grapes to make wine with.

Moving on to me, my education was at private Catholic schools in the area. In primary school I was taught by nuns, and in high school by brothers. I wasn't particulalry good at school in primary, but I did love reading, and the nuns in our very small, country town school let me read as much as I wanted to, so I read everything in the small library. My parents also had a decent collection of books at home for my brothers and sisters and I to read, and they set a good example. I've read all my life as far back as I can remember, and although my reading these days is mainly done on digital devices, I still read a lot: books, newspapers, magazines and journals.

My favourite song is "Bohemian Rhapsody" by the rock band Queen. It's not a new song since it was first sung by Queen in 1975. I'm not sure when I first heard it, but as soon as I did, I loved it. I've liked many other songs over the decades, and different artists, such as David Bowie, and some Australian rock groups, in addition to classical music, but Queen's operatic masterpiece has remained my favourite, despite the rather sad story it tells.

And that is 325 words, so if you write a similar amout, you should be safely over the minimum word limit.

Right royal bloopers

Introduction and summary

In "The Crown 3 trailer: Olivia Colman's Queen faces a crisis of confidence," we are told about season 3 of The Crown, NetFlix’s series that tells the story of England's Queen Elizabeth II from her life before she became queen in 1952. According to the article, which is based on the trailer just released by NetFlix, the new season begins with new actors playing the royals in 1977, which is a much more stressful time for Britain, with a bad economy, labour strikes, and a socialist prime minister coming to power. The tense and unhappy personal lives of the royal family are also shown, for example, Elizabeth's son, Charles, her husband, Phillip, and her sister, Princess Margaret.

Helena Bonham Carter as
Bellatrix Lestrange
Unfortunately, in my summary I couldn't name the new actors playing the more aged members of the royal family, but one of them, Helena Bonham Carter, caught my interest. I've liked her acting for many years. She usually stars in odd roles. She was, for example, Bellatrix Lestrange in the Harry Potter films, where she was a wonderfully evil presence, but my favourite film she has done so far is Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, in which she plays Mrs. Lovett, who turns Sweeney Todd the barber's customers into meat pies in her shop below his. They have a wonderful romance as Mr. Todd seeks revenge on an corrupt judge who ruined Sweeney's life by falsely imprisoning him so that he could steal the barbers wife and daughter for wicked purposes. Johnny Depp is great as Sweeney Todd in this very dark musical, but it's Helena Bonham Carter who makes the dark shine with fun.

Also interesting for me, the article makes some interesting comments about a detail in the film. There is a mistake because it says that Queen Elizabeth's Jubilee, in 1977, was 25 years after her coronation as queen in 1953. But if you do the simple arithmetic, 1953 to 1977 is only 24 years, not 25. According to the article, NetFlix decided to keep this mistake because it repeats the mistake made on record in the news broadcasts at the time. Of course, the private scenes between the royal family members, although perhaps based on evidence from the time, are all made up. No one really knows what the princes, princesses, and queen really said when they were shouting at each other in their fights, but to tell a story that honestly portrays them as people, the script writers have to use some imagination, and historians have done that for at least the last 2,500 years, since the time when Thucydides wrote his histories of the wars of Classical Greece in the 5th century BC.

I'm looking forward to watching this new season on November 17. Maybe I should first watch the first two seasons again.

I hope you enjoy this official trailer from YouTube.

The rat race relaxes?

Introduction and summary

The article "Rats taught to drive tiny cars to lower their stress levels", which was published on the BBC News on October 24, is about how scientists taught rats to drive little cars because they wanted to learn how it affected their levels of stress. The rats were motivated to learn because they got some food if they successfully drove their vehicle to it. The scientists think that the results might suggest ways to treat psychological problems that cannot now be cured. The scientists measured chemicals in the rats' shit which show stress levels, which showed that driving the small cars made from plastic bottles and other simple parts reduced the stress levels of the rats.

Response: What is your opinion?

I thought this story was cute when I first read it a few days in one of the newspapers I read every day. Other people clearly also liked it, becaue the same story appeared in a science magazine I read and a couple of other newspapers. I was pleased to see it in the BBC News because that meant I could choose it to summarize and respond to here. The video with the BBC News report shows that the rats can control their small vehicles very well, in fact, I'm not sure that I would be able to do so well.

I was also surprised that driving relaxes the rats. A couple of my sisters and some of my friends in Australia say that driving relaxes them, but I always found it both extremely boring and very stressful. I was never a good driver, and gave up as soon as I finished high school. I haven't driven for about 40 years now, and have no desire to ever drive again. But I do enjoy being driven around, and when I visit my family in Australia ever year, my sisters often drive me around the local roads of our home area for hours just looking to see what has changed and what is still the same. It would drive me insane, but they obviously do enjoy it. And I like being a passenger, so we're all happy.

I was also surprised that rats could learn to drive. It seems fairly difficult, at least for me, and although the rats don't have to compete on the roads of Bangkok, the video supports the reported results that they really did learn to drive their cute vehicles pretty well – stopping, starting, turning, reversing and all those things that I found very stressful.

I wonder what rats will learn to do next?

BBC news about the HS2 rail

Introduction and summary

"HS2 must be built in full, say the CBI's regional heads" is about the request to the UK government to built the controversial HS2 rail to the North from London. The article says that six regional heads of Britain's biggest employers' group are worried about a fate of the HS2 rail project because there is a possibility that all or part of the high-speed rail network might be scrapped.

The opinion was claimed this project has delays and uncertainties, and it will not improve the desired connectivity across the country. Moreover a lot of money have already been spent and will have to spend more in a future for two phases of HS2.

However, the CBI chiefs consider that the HS2 rail project will bring more benefits to local communities far beyond its costs. Northern leaders have suggested in a review recommendations about a nessesarity of taking control of plans for the HS2 rail.

Response: What is your opinion?

I agree with the CBI chiefs about future benefits from the HS2 rail project for people, bisinesses and the UK in a whole. Every huge and extra expensive project needs in a strict control of workers, time-management, finanses, and compliance of laws, standarts. Only regular revisions and making adjustments to the construction process can help to achieve the best results with minimum of losing.

The article says that microplastics are becoming a part of our planet and they are also accumulation in the food chains. Although many scientists try to find out the effects of these tiny things in animals and humans, it remains unknown and needs further research.

Response: What is your opinion?

I think it is great that recently many people are interested in the environment and plastic issue. The discovered of microplastics in sea, atmosphere, and foods makes a lot of people turn to concern more about using plastic. I think founding microplastics on our plate is more impact on society because the plastic pollution can be clearly seen in places, but we cannot see it in foods. Although the risks of microplastics to our health have not been confirmed yet, I think it could affect us in some way.

I think we should reduce using plastics by stop using single use plastics, the plastics we use only one time before throwing it away. I think we cannot stop using plastic immediately however I glad that at least some people started to keep it in their mind.

Response: What is your opinion?

In my opinion, and I've just watched "Rocket man" which is docu-drama film about Elton John, I totally disagree with the way that Elton's father did to him. I think most of human like to have compliments and approval especially by their parents, it's important thing that encourage on every careers life not just as musician, I think we need approval from our parents to prove that we walk in the right way and they'll always beside us.

At last, If I were Elton John. I will write a song which about my strained relationship with my father, to say sorry and tell him how much that I love him. I think it'll be a great and very impressive about song story.

Introduction and summary

"Facebook puts on brave face with Libra" is about potential investors dropping out of Facebook's planned crypto-currency. The article says that traditional credit firms such as Visa and Mastercard dropped out of Facebook's plan following warnings from the US government about how disruptive Libra, the name of Facebook's payment system, might be to government controlled money systems.

____________________________________

Response: What is your opinion?

Although I think these innovations need to be approached with caution, I'm also glad that Facebook is trying something new that offers to make it easier for poeple to buy and sell things and to move money around the world. Governments have traditionally controlled money supplies and I don't think they are have a great record, so letting private groups in might be very healthy. There is a risk, but that is not a good reason to ban things. Cars are also risky, and were very dangerous when first invented, but that would have been a very bad reason to ban them or make it impossible for customers and businesses to take the risks that have brought us the modern car, which is very safe, convenient and relatively cheap so that most people in developed nations can buy a car if they want to.

I think that we should also be allowed to use different payment options with minimal government oversight. If a system does not work well, it will quickly fail, as it should be allowed to and as businesses not run by governments stealing from tax payers do fail when they do not offer a valuable service to customers.
