The BBC News's "Mitochondria editing tried in mice" (2015) reports that "Researchers have developed a technique to edit out bits of mitochondrial DNA that could otherwise pass on incurable diseases, a study in mice shows.". However, There are also many warnings from specialists about risks and from dr. about coming arguments and hurdles, especially in ethics and religions, to overcome if this is going to be used to treat with humans in the future.

For me, I usually, not all, agree with treatment or discover like this because I focus on the life and well-being of the human more than ethics and some religions or belief. I think making people alive and happy is the main purpose of ethics. Therefore, something like these are quite make sense for me.
However, I think it is very very very difficult to find the same agreements of these issues because of the difference in nationality, religion, culture, thought, background, knowledge, belief, etc. You have to find the same regulations or laws for about different 7,000 millions people in the world, that's really difficult. If you could, I'm pretty sure that there would still be some people who would break these laws. It's common to human's society.
"Where one door shuts, another opens", I strongly believe that this quote is always true even if it doesn't tell when or how the problems would be solved. However, it gives us the power to face and try to overcome the problems including these kinds of problems. One day in the near future, we must get the procedure to deal with these problems, I believe.

I used to learn this chapter, cell, as well. You make me realize that nowadays, our tech., not all, about medical and science grow very fast and can give us a better life. But, something like human cloning is unethical and I don't agree with this method.
ReplyDeleteI think difference in ideas is very good and important. It helps us concern something more carefully and clearly.

ReplyDeleteThe controversy about the morality in cloning has been discussed for a long time and I think it is a very sensitive things. In my school, we often discussed about this kind of topic, the inequality, the racism and also the cloning. There was one question that my teacher ask the class, the very clever question. He asked "If you got the cloning of yourself, Is that cloning able to get human status like you?".
ReplyDeleteIf you think the cloning is not a true human. Just some living creature that human create, then it is not unethical. But if you think they are human like us, It would be unethical.
Jin's comment sort of connects with something I thought as I read Knut's post. Does it matter much what religion says?
DeleteIf an act is morally right, then religious disagreement does not make it wrong. If the act is wrong, I don't think religion saying it's OK can make it right.
The Christian religion, in the Bible clearly endorses slavery, but that does not make slavery morally OK. On the contrary, I think it shows that the Bible, and Christianity, have at least some teachings that are morally wrong.
Perhaps in making decisions about cloning and so on, we should ignore what religions say, unless they have solid supporting reasons for their ideas.
@Jin : Your reply makes me get some interesting ideas and have to concern more about the status of cloning body. That is really sensitive.
Delete@Peter : I totally agree with your idea. As I read your idea, I think of some doubt about our religions. There are many religions and beliefs in our world today but If to say that religion is always right, why there still have many disagreements between them? Which one is absolutely correct and we should follow? It's really hard to find out.
