Coffee may prevent depression

Are you a coffee lover? There is a good news for coffee lovers that drinking coffee can make you feel good. In fact, it is not only coffee but also covers all kinds of caffeine products such as tea, cola and milk chocolate. So, now, Have you being depressed?, get a cup of coffee!

According to "Coffee may prevent depression, scientists say" on the BBC news, Women who drink two or more cups of coffee a day are less likely to get depressed. There is no a clear reason that why it might have this effect. The author believes that the caffeine in coffee may alter the brian's chemistry while decaffeinated coffee did not have the same effect. There is evidence that Caffeine blocks adenosine, which produces a similar effect to increasing dopamine production. And it's becoming increasingly clear that the dopamine-rich areas of the brain are much more important in depression that previously thought.

This research remind me of the saying that eating chocolate makes you feel good. It may be a result of caffeine too. Coffee is not only a fascinating drink but also has a role in health too. In addition, many years ago I have heard about the many medical advantages of coffee such as reducing risk of Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and cancer. I think it is good for everyone to prevent many diseases by consuming what they like instead of taking medicines. However, although there many benefits from drinking coffee, consuming too much caffeine can also bring about increasing high blood pressure, disturbed sleep and anxiety. You should realize that everything has both pros and cons. It depend on how you use or consume it. For this reason, you should consume it in moderation.

  1. Yes, I am.

I love coffee smell. And I like to try coffee taste from different coffee shop. When I drink a cup of coffee, I feel more relax, less depressed and more alert too.

    I like your news!

  2. I'm so glad that Golf chose this article to blog.

I had emailed it to myself, and if no one had chosen it, I would have blogged it. I was very happy to read that this drug addiction is not a bad one. My morning coffee is brewing right now, and in a couple of minutes, I'll be ingesting my first hot of the day.

I like it strong and black, usually twice a day, and occasionally thrice.

Like Pui, I like Golf's news.

  3. For me, Whenever I drink coffee, I always feel sleepy and dizzy.
Is it normal? On the other hand, I'm fresh when I drink tea, both green tea and black tea, and cocoa. I think cocoa contains more caffeine than coffee.

However, I like coffee smell in a coffee shop.

  4. Kwang,
My father was the same. He loved the smell of fresh coffee, but didn't like to drink it, preferring tea.

I need my morning and afternoon coffees. My addiction to the drugs includes physical dependence. If I miss a dose, I get an increasingly unpleasant headache that is only relieved by coffee.

Should I seek help for this addiction?

  5. I also like its smell and taste. I agree with you that we should consume it in moderation to prevent from consuming too much caffeine.

    @Peter
How much do you drink each? a shot, a glass or more?
For me, I like strong and black too, but I drink only a shot of coffee every morning. I don't think I'm addicted to coffee.

  6. Job,
I have one large cup of freshly brewed coffee at least twice a day. Sometimes I replace one of the long blacks with a large espresso. And if I have lunch out with friends, I might finish off with coffee, but not normally at dinner.

I do think I'm addicted, but I don't think it's a problem - my addiction to coffee does not cause any problem, other than an occasional headache if for some reason (very rare) I miss a cup for more than six hours.

I'm having my second cup now, so will be fresh to finish off the reviews over the next few hours. Actually, I might have a short nap first - although I don't normally drink it late a night, coffee doesn't seem to keep me awake.

  7. Golf,
I am very happy to meet your blog about coffee as a coffee addict. Before coming to Bangkok,I usually used to drink 5 cups of coffee a day because I felt coffee gave me energy and I think it is true for me. Like your blog, at that time coffee might gave me many advantages. Especially, I like the last part of your blog which mentions disadvantages of drinking too much coffee. Fortunately, I drink one or two nowadays.

Golf, actually, this article was zzimed(=Chosen/Koean) as my next blog. However, it is much better for you to write this blog because I couldn't write better than yours.

  9. Sunny,
I'm sorry that Golf beat you to it, but if he hadn't, I would have. I had already emailed it to myself because I liked it. Like you, I'm very glad that Golf chose this article to blog. He has done it very well, but I'm sure you would also have handled it well.

I hope you find something equally stimulating for your turn to blog tomorrow.

Five cups of coffee a day? Makes my addiction seem quite minor!

  10. Peter,

  12. Oh dear, I've just seen what I wrote in my rush before I went out earlier (@ 7:08 PM).

So, now you have proof that I sometimes also write garbled sentences when I'm not reviewing and revising. The really bad ones are when I miss a not - that's a fairly serious change in meaning. I blame my fingers for not accurately transcribing what passes through my mind.

I'm much more careful with my more academic writing, and always review and proofread that before letting anyone see it.

  13. But sometimes my mind changes half way through a sentence, and I forget to revise the other half so that it matches the new version.

  14. I like smell of coffee but I don't like to drink it. I love tea and cocoa. But everytime when I drink cocoa, I feel headache. I think because of caffeine, so I didn't drink too much, I drink just once a week. I prefer tea more than cocoa and coffee.

  15. Aom,
If you persevere, drinking little, and then a little more, and then a little more, you will build up a physical tolerance as you become addicted, and then you won't get the headaches from caffeine even when you drink it every day.

But will might get headaches if you miss a hit.

  16. Peter,
Thank you for your suggestion. I will try to drink little and little more because I love cocoa and I don't want to stop drinking. Maybe drink a little bit per day, I won't get the headaches.

  17. I prefer tea more than cocoa because I feel headache when i drink cocoa. If i won't get headache, i'll prefer cocoa more than tea. Poor me!

  18. I prefer to get my cocoa from chocolate.
I like rich, dark chocolate with very little or no added sugar. Lindt Excellence is my favourite - 99% cocoa!

But sometimes I also like sweetened chocolate - Sacher Cake, for example, or chocolate tarts, or even some chocolates. And they all go very well with coffee.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Lindt 99% cocoa is my favorite chocolate too.
I like chocolate so much, maybe it's my most favourite food. However, I'll not eat any chocolate that contain lower than 60% cacoa.

    @Aom
I wonder why you have headache when you drink cocoa. Do you have headache when you drink tea? In facts, Tea contain more caffeine than cocoa, a cup of brewed green tea provides about 25-40 mg of caffeine, black tea is between 40 and 70, but a cup of hot cocoa contains around 6 to 13 mg.
However, whatever you drink, both of them contain lots of antioxidants which can protect your cells from the damage. They're good for your health
