Do you believe the end of the world ?

I woke up early and saw news about nature disasters that almost happen everyday in the world. Every time I saw these news, I've been thinking of the world's predictions. Nowadays, it seem interesting and wondering. Although there are similar predictions and forecasts from other sources such as Nasa, Gordon-Michael Scallion, Bible, and Sir Isaac Newton. Like events that happen in Guatemala that reports by BBC .

According to "Four earthquakes rattle Guatemala in under three hours" in BBC, there are four earthquakes that hit Guatemala continuously within three hours. The size of earthquakes are about 4.8-5.8 that could feel tremolous across the country. Afterwards many residents, in Guatemala, must stay outside because they feared and didn't feel safe in their houses. President Alvaro Colom tried to help survivors to be calm. In Guatemala, there are many of the buildings that are made of vulnerable material. Consequently, there has been serious damage to buildings along sideways. At least three people've been lost in Cuilapa, the epicenter of earthquakes.

This is one of nature disasters in the world and they're strong earthquakes that made strongly damage to lifes and assests. There are many predictions and forecasts about the world in future. Those predictions described frightful events that they will come soon. Many events are happened follow the predictions. For example, the world would have an inepidemic and now we have AIDS. In Bible, there was predictions about war and then the world had the World War I and World War II. Moreover, in Buddhism, there had prediction about earthquakes and then the world had earthquakes many times around in the world such as in Japan, America and Indonesia. In addition, there are forecasts of science from NASA that supported to some predictions about events of the world in future. It made predictions strong and believeable. Finally, I think these events like warning signals from nature that followed to some predictions, and we should concern more about nature before we couldn't.

  2. Doomsday alway has been an interesting topic.
Actually, It's a scientific fact that one day the Earth will finally come to an end, may be hundreds of billions of years from now. Although, there are a lots of science and pseudoscience theories of ending of the world such as Meteorite impact, Plate tectonics, Cataclysmic pole shift, Gamma-ray bursts, Megaflooding and etc., but for me, I don't believe that there will be the end of mankind soon; however, nature will balance itself and thats will surely affect our race population. In addition, I agree with you that those events-disaster may be warning signals, and we have to concern more, not only about environment, but in all our deeds.

  3. That way I am reading science book that my girl has. It's about rapid changing the earth's surface. Earthquakes, volcanoes, landslide, hurricane and flooding really make the world changed. In the Bible said that signs tell that the world will be end. Nobody can tell when, but the most important things that we need to do now, live the life that God wants us to be.

  5. When I was a student in primary school, I used to read a book that concerned about an end of the earth predicted by Michel de Nostredame - Nostradamus. That book told that the world would finish in 2000. Because I was very young, I tried to persuade my mom to stop going to school and to stay with mom. Anyway I don't act like that now!

Have you ever heard about "The End of the World
October 21, 2011" that are written in the Bible?

"2011 AD—On May 21st, Judgment Day will begin and the rapture (the taking up into heaven of God’s elect people) will occur at the end of the 23-year great tribulation. On October 21st, the world will be destroyed by fire (7000 years from the flood; 13,023 years from creation)."

I think that the purpose of this excerpt is to inform us of the great urgency will occur.

However, I don't know that is god's decision or not.
Anyway, we have known that natural disasters happened more frequently in last decades and scientific evidence also support them.

  7. Kwang, No,I don't mean that . I don't want everyone to stampede or stop their life and wait for the end of the world, but my objective of this topic is just want everyone to concern and be conscious in their life. Now the world is changed by acting of humans. I know science can describe those nature disasters. However, I just surprise the predictions and forecasts of NASA are similar in some points.

  8. I wouldn't worry too much about anything the Bible or other ancient texts say - they are very interesting, but worthless for giving knowledge about the world. Science, never religion, is how we learn true ideas about the world we live in. Science has evidence and solid reasons for its predictions, and they can be tested.

I thought that Nostradamus was fun to read, but even more fun were the weird stories that people made up from his vague and mysterious (never clear or direct) statements. It's the same as getting a date for anything from the Bible - a lot of mystery, and mystery is not knowledge, not even a clear idea about something.

In case you're worried, I think religion has its uses, but giving truth or useful information about the world and human beings is not something religion is useful for.

  9. Aomsin,
if you ask me "Do you believe the end of the world"? I would answer yes, but if you ask me when the time is, I would answer definetely not now or near future. It is true that many terrible natural disasters have thretened us as if they were signals of the last day, and these could be warning signs. However, as Job said, I think that these disasters are caused by results of human beings' bad actions about nature. To solve these problems, I agree that we should work together with aids of scientic methods, but I don't believe those theories which mentioned the end of the world.

  10. I agree with Sunny. This planet and the sun it surrounds will not be around forever, but we still have a few billion years to go, so it's probably a bit early to be worrying about the end.

I wonder: are there more natural disasters now than at any time in the past, or are they just more efficiently reported? With the exception of global warming, which is real, I don't think things have changed much. And I am confident that we can solve and adapt to the problems posed by global warming. I am sure that not using plastic bags is definitely not a solution - that is trying to treat the cause (although there might be other good reasons for cutting down on plastic shopping bags), and as Deutsch points out in his presentation, it's much too late to be treating the cause. What we need are science based ways to treat the undesirable symptoms, which brings back to the reading "Culture and Mental Illness" in Quest, where Hartmann is talking a lot about symptoms, with a few comments on causes thrown in.

  12. Many people think the world will be end,I believe this idea. Two main reasons cause that, the reasons are natural disasters and Nuclear wars.Natural disasters are more possible than nuclear wars. Now natural resources are more important than forever, because the world's population increase very quickly, Unfortunately, natural resources decrease very quickly too. Some countries might launch the war in order to capture resources, but that will be a limited war, means limited area, degree and weapons,
the war would be controlled, wouldn't be nuclear war.Every people realize that if the nuclear war happened,no one could survive, that would be a suicide behavior.World will be destroyed by natural disasters, because the natural environments are destroyed by human, that cause many disasters, such as flooding, extreme climate and such like. Finally, the situation couldn't controlled, that means the end of the world will come soon.

  13. Peter, i reply your wonder about nature disasters in past. I think in past there are few nature disasters and they're not violent as now. For example, in Vietnam, there didn't have snows in country, but now snow fell in Lao Cai, Vietnam. Its cause is La Niña. Moreover, Tsumani in Thailand was famous around the world that is very violent more than in 1883. And then it had other nature disasters in other countries and we could see it in news reports almost everyday.

  14. I believe the end of the world will come in long time. However, I have more concern about the end of humankind than the end of the world. In my view, the Earth has been changing all the time from the past. From millions or billions years ago to today, it has extremely changed. Such disasters are just small steps in the earth process in order to balance itself.
