    I don't much about earth sciences - but now I know who to ask if related question comes up. That was one reason I asked everyone to write these first blog posts: it's useful to know what areas people are interested in and likely to be able to give useful information about.
    Introducing ourselves is also a relatively easy way to start blogging.
