  1. Initially, the findings of the research on sunshine surpised me a bit. I wouldn't have thought that sunshine would reduce pain, but if those are the observed facts, I'm prepared to believe it is right, and the explanation is plausible. It makes sense.

The other one that surprised me a bit was that voting reduces stress. When I see the fuss in the current US presidential campaigns, it seems the opposite of reducing stress. And as Feem's essay on Squealer suggests, it is not obvious that voting reduces stress in Thailand. In both the US and Thai cases, I would have thought quite the contrary. The explanation, however, sounds reasonable, so it might be right. But I would also like to see some follow up studies. Also, is the act of voting only that reduces stress, or the whole process of an election campaign leading up to the voting?

  2. I surprised after reading the study telling that the sunlight can reduce using medication for pain. I've never read the study like this before. I've heard about the seasonal depression but have never found the relation between seretonin and sunlight before. I think if we have a lot of this kind of non-medicinal therapy, we can decrease drug using which means the cheaper cost and better for their health as a result of side affects from the drugs.

  3. Voting is the mot surprised me.

According to New Research, it said about voting that "voting make people fell that they have more control over their lives, and that feeling reduce stress"

I never know before that voting has a lot of benefit like this. I always think that the more I voting to something, the more my stress will increase.

Thailand got talent (channel for watching and voting for your lover singer) is an example, I ever vote for this program one time and the person who I vote for didn't got any price which make me sad very much.

  4. Just a little bit. Since the book was published in 2007, the research in the book should have been even before that time. So the studies didn't surprise me that much.

For sleeping, I have already known that it is good for the body, but I have also learned something more from the reading. I just knew that the brain also tries to solve the problems we face even we are sleeping.

  5. Yes it does. For me, new research about hot cocoa surprise me because I think green tea is always the healthiest beverage. Maybe because of it's color, "green" represents healthy for me. Moreover, I often find it with a lot of sugar and milk in markets. Green tea is easier to find no sugar one. That's why I've never seen a real healthy hot cocoa.

  6. Of five studies, they provide me a lot of new knowledge about medical research. However, the one that makes me surprised the most is sunshine because without having related background I've never thought of the advantage of sunshine in this perspective before. During being a student, I was told that the natural light from sunshine benefit our body as a source of vitamin D which improve and support our bones. Beyond my knowledge and expectation,I am surprised about its benefit of reducing pain. For the rest, I think it is interesting but not surprising.

  7. No, it does not. All activities mentioned, including watching T.V., drinking hot cocoa, voting, sleeping and also sunbathing are most of people's routine or hobbies that is deeply-rooted in their lives. It is very difficult to change this lifestyle, for example, sleeping which is almost impossible to be changed despite knowing advantages of sleeping for 7-8 hours a day. This maybe due to various reasons such as overwhelming workload or even poor time management. Additionally, I do not think there is anyone who read the New Research mentioned and immediately go to vote. This is all about ones' rights and people might think that it is crazy to follow the research blindly, just to go voting to improve their mental health. It is ironic as this will be seen as psychic instead. Further more, even if we say watching tv is bad, who will just stop watching tv immediately because of just a research?
