My Yes/No question is:
Will new types of Barbie become as popular as the original one?
My answer is:
No, new types of Barbie won’t become as popular as the original one. In my opinion Barbie is a doll. It doesn’t have to be too realistic. Children buy a doll because of its beauty, cuteness and function. The shape of Barbie doesn’t matter to children but since those three new types of Barbie doll are on sale. The customer can clearly see the difference between Curvy Barbie and the original one. They would say the Curvy Barbie fat. Mostly girl want to be slim, that’s why they see Barbie doll and aim to be like her. I understand that Curvy Barbie and the other two were created to begin various kind of doll so that customer will have more choice to enjoy their doll. However Petite and Tall Barbie are still imagination’s doll shape, with her proportion it’s possible to imagine her having difficulty standing upright but it’s beautiful.

Since Barbie doll have various shape then the clothes for each type of doll would not fit perfect with the doll. This will affect her beauty because some suit would be too big for Petite but too small for Curvy or too short for tall. Children might have to buy the specific cloth for each doll which is expensive. If I were a customer I would buy an original Barbie shape so that I can spend more on clothes.

The Barbie’s shape also affects other toy that relate to Barbie. For example, a Barbie house which was designed for normal Barbie. When the shape of Barbie is not fit to the Barbie’s option, the amusement decrease.

  1. I agree with you that new shape of barbie won't as popular as the original one.

However, I like the shape of new barbies than the original because it may be able to change children's perspective about perfect beauty which is not real.

I have seen a lot of news about women who want to have a perfect shape like barbies. They used surgery to make her shape as perfect as barbie which is not realistic and harmful for their health very much.

That's why, I not only like new shape of barbie but also want children to like this shape.

    1. Thank you for your comment.

I agree that a woman who has surgery looks unrealistic.I have seen their picture before.Their waist are too narrow and it doesn't look beautiful at all but I think it's different from the doll.I think the original Barbie doll is beautiful on her own shape. So I think parents should guide their children to have a natural healthy shape instead of copying the doll's shape.

  2. I thought Ploy's sentence: "Mostly girl want to be slim, that’s why they see Barbie doll and aim to be like her" interesting.
It made me think of two questions:
    1. Is Ploy right that the desire to be slim comes first, and that is why the slim Barbie's are attractive?
    2. Why do most girls want to be slim anyway?

I have ideas about both questions, but am wondering what other think on these interesting points that Ploy's post raises.

    1. In case you've noticed the time, I'm having a much later afternoon coffee than usual today. I was so exhausted after getting up at 5:55 AM to teach and then almost immediately meeting friends for lunch and shopping after work that I needed a short nap. I wonder what my sleep and dreams will be like tonight as a result.

  3. I do agree with your opinion that support why a new barbie doll will not popular than the old. But I have some points about this, they maybe launch a new barbie's shape to attract a chubby girl who want to be like a barbie (get the various beautiful cloth or other reasons). Most of young ladies who are plump shape; they probably get a mimetic word from others like their friend, and they feel depressed, it makes them have an inferiority complex. The new barbie will change their belief(not fat is "yes" in the social), and reduce popularity about slim shape is the answer of beautiful.

As I said above, if they really launch a new shape barbie, it must be a new barbie's era that brake the old concept about "Barbie".

  4. Nothing would ever become as popular as their original ones. Not just only Barbies, but also other goods. The original ones are always the best due to their originality. Things are famous because their typical ones attract people. When developers try to develop them to attract their customers ever more, it instead decreases the popularity of the goods. As you can see, movies, toys, games and etc., they try to improve their products to make their customers stay with them. But the more they try to make the products attractive, the less attractive the products become. So I would say that the newer ones will not become more popular than the original ones.
