In Bangkok post article "Nok Air routinely cancels 61 flights" (2016), Amornrat talks about cancellation flight of Nok Air that "Nok Air cancelled 34 domestic flights from Don Mueang and 27 inbound flights on Friday...which affected many thousands of travelers."
Nowadays, Nok Air is facing a problem with pilot shortage because they want to improve pilot standards which let Nok Air have to cancel flight and use some flights arranged of partner airlines which are Thai Lion Air and Thai Smile to help them operate.
By the way, Nok Air CEO Patee says about this problem that "Nok Air would not cancel more flights than earlier announced and that its problems would be solved in the near future."

My Yes/No question is:
Will Nok Air lose their customers to other airlines?
My answer is:
Yes, they will. I think that If Nok Air don't solve this problem immediately. They will be lost customer to other airlines forever.
As far as I know, Nok Air has two competitive advantages which are low-cost and the most traveling route in Thailand. If Nok Air drop their route to equal to other airlines, Customer will choose to travel other airline such as Lion Air which has equal price as Nok Air.
One of my friend is an example, he bought a ticket with Nok Air by having a plan to travel on this April. Unfortunately after that one month, his flight was cancelled because of Nok Air don't have enough pilot. This situation forces him to buy another ticker which is more expensive than the old ticket from other airlines and make him dissatisfy with Nok Air very much.
That's why, I think that If Nok Air don't have emergency plan to manage with this problem, In the long term they will lose both reputation and customer to other airlines forever.

Nok Air seemed to me to display amazing management incompetence to bring about this disastrous public relations mess. I have to agree with Ae that they are unlikely to recover - if I were a customer, they would be deleted from my list of airlines to use. In fact, as a potential customer, they have already been deleted.

ReplyDeleteTo travel by plane, the ticket is quite expensive so people usually plan for the trip. For example if I were invited to my friend's wedding and I plan to reach there on the wedding day.I would missed it. So I agree that Nok Air should have an emergency plan for this kind of situation.
Yes, Nok Air will absolutely lose their customers as they still don't have enough pilots and cancel as many flights as they are doing. By cancelling flights, it affect many of passengers and might result in the loss of confidence in those customers, especially those who have very important events or work to attend. If Nok Air were to cancel flights, they should have had some backup plans for the situations followed from their cancellation. On the other hand, if Nok Air could really improve their pilot standards, it might let them gain their customers back in the long future as if the customers believe in their performance.
