Book's Academic Interests

Once I had played a computer game call "Empire: Total War", I have found the great quotation of John Adams, the second (?) US president; I must study politics and war that my son may study mathematics and philosophy. This quote has inspired me to think about the well-being of the people and how to make a better world. That's why I really want to study politics, especially in the public policy area.

As I have graduated from the faculty for about 2 years, I realize that Thailand still have many significant numbers of social problems such as poverty, and so forth. Moreover, as I've experienced

  1. I don't quite like playing computer games and I don't know much about them. For me, politics always makes me bored. I hate those situations in Thailand right now but I also tries to solve those problems.

    1. I agree with you and still worrying about the situation here. The problem right now is about the conflict of political ideologies between the two sides. The one thing I doubt is why those politicians didn't have a negotiation to set the collective rules? We people could have different ideologies and thoughts, but it would be better if we can share out thoughts freely with no hate speeches logically. for resolutions. I'm boring not only the situation nowadays but also the way somebody (from all sides) express their thoughts and the meanings itself. So we must tolerate with the situation and hope that it would be better with no more bloodshed. :)

    2. I like your idea that "it would be better if we can share out thoughts freely with no hate speeches." If speech is not free, knowledge and well-founded opinion on the censored topics seems to me impossible: censorship usually guarantees that opinion is founded not on knowledge, or the possibility of knowledge, but on ignorance, and opinions founded on the ignorance enforced by censorship don't seem to me to be worth much.

Surely we want our opinions on important topics to be well founded, and that means we need to look at opposing ideas and show why those opposing ideas fail. If the opposing ideas are strong and well supported, perhaps that means we need to change our own minds.

This is one reason academics generally welcome disagreement, and academic life is full of disagreement and argument, often passionate disagreement and argument. But it's out of this argument that we might make some progress, whether in science or politics.

    3. I also agree in disliking much of the language both sides use: I wonder why they can't state their ideas and support in more rational, less emotionally charged ways?

  2. I guess you might graduate in Political Sciences? Certainly, politics is a really sensitive topic to talk about these days. In fact, I'm the one who is also in this area; therefore, I keen on this subject particularly the concepts and the ideas of how to govern our nation - or political circumstances. You mentioned "Public Policy" it's an interesting one!! This's a beneficial field which widely give you some opportunities to work either in public or private areas.

    1. Yes, I have graduated from that faculty and glad to know that you share the same interest. I agree with you that this topic is very sensitive but the resolution should come from open talk with related stakeholders: we can't escape from the negotiation and discussion to solve such problem.

For public policy, actually I am interesting in social policy such as healthcare and welfare but still struggle with basic foundation knowledge. How do you prepare for your master?

  3. I honestly never thought about studying Political Sciences or sub-fields of Political area before, but your blog caught my attention! I admire your idea about "well-being of people and how to make a better world". I've been trying to find the answer as well. Hopefully, one day we could find the right answer in our own way!

    This world is ours!
