Healthier School Meal

If we talk about our school, I believe that one of the most common topics is school meal. I’m quite sure that many people can remember what they eat at school. Sometime school meal was yummy, but some time it was awful. When I read this news “New school meal plan aims to 'inspire' healthy eating”, it makes me think about my school meal.

According to the BBC News “New school meal plan aims to 'inspire' healthy eating”, the Scottish government want schools to serve healthy meals- use fresh local product and provide menus which promote healthy eating- to make children have good eating habits.

From my point of view, it’s a good idea to serve healthy meal at school. A school is a place where we learn many things, including foods. In school, we learn that what we should eat and what we shouldn’t, or which food is good for our health and which is bad. So, if school just teach us but not do it; I mean teachers teach which food is good but not provide healthy meal, we don’t know if it’s really good. In Thailand, many schools let children buy foods by themselves. Children will buy only what they want to eat, and don’t care about nutrition and their health. I’m sure that almost everyone eats unhealthy foods, for example don’t eat vegetable or drink soft drinks. Some schools have rule about selling soft drinks but I see it doesn’t help. I think the best way is school should provide lunch for their pupils and those lunches must be healthy.

I also agree with that school meal have an effect on children’s eating habits. As we can see, many people got their eating habits from school. For instance, when I was very young, I hated pumpkins because of their color. One day, at school, there was pumpkin for my lunch. It looked like condensed soup but also had chopped pumpkins and eggs. For me, it looked awful and disgusting. My teacher told me that I had to eat everything that school provided, I felt very bad but can’t do anything, so I ate pumpkin for the first time. Then I change my mind, I thought it wasn’t bad, actually it was very good. And now, pumpkin is one of my favorite vegetables. I think my school caterers are good. They can make the things that many children hate delicious.

  1. Another post that reminds me of my childhood.
When I was in primary school, my mum always packed a lunch for me. This was usually sandwiches and an apple or some other fruit. I guess it was healthy, but after sitting in my lunch box for a few hours before I ate it, it wasn't always the best tasting.

But on Fridays, my school had a tuckshop, where all of our mothers would turn up and sell food they had made freshly for lunch. This was great, and as Kloy suggests, healthy food can also be delicious and look good. I used to love salad rolls, with ham or roast beef, cheese, and lots of fresh vegetables. I also liked scones with butter and jam, and cakes, but at least I got to enjoy some healthy food as well. I used to wish that every day was tuckshop day, but I guess our mothers had other important things to worry about, such as hanging out at the bowling club, and in my mother's case, looking after my younger brothers and sisters.

  2. I had eaten school lunch for about 10 year and I really hated it. It is quite healthy but tastes very bad. The worst thing is sometimes school meal isn't clean and make students have diarrhea. Every school, especially primary school, must try to provide delicious healthy meal because good eating habits will affect the lifelong health of the kids.

  3. I had eaten in primiry school and high school (same school) for 15 years. Because of my school had a lot of children and don't have enough for built more canteen, they provided one menu set in one day. You could only buy icecream after your meal. I think it not a good idea for practice habit of eating. Not good way for me! My school had to prepare a lot of ingredients, and didn't care about how they look like. I mean when you saw a lot of food in many pot, and every pot had cook for quick to serve everyone on time.I can swear that I had ate fresh pork before. So that why make me agree with this content that Kloy picked up to present. But I want to add some suggestion that is Tthe school should case more about process and make it look delicious to make good attitude of eating for children.
