How Japanese consider mental illness
Generally, in Japan, we tend to ignore mental illnesses in normal lives because traditional people consider that complaining mental illnesses come from weakness of mental then it could be ashamed. Therefore, we would seek psychologists only when we feel something wrong physically, for example we can’t sleep or eat for several days but there is no evidence of physical illness. However, if behavior of ones’ friend or relative becomes abnormal, he or she would recommend them to see psychologists. Then we would take care of them as mentally challenged, such as avoiding having conversation which make them too much concerned, or accepting their abnormal behavior.
