Is it Really Easy to Become Uber Driver?

What I found in the news
According to Alexandra Cain in How to become an Uber driver in Australia (2016), it is easy for Australian who already had a car which less than nine years and had a single license to become Uber drivers. Working as Uber drivers have a lot of advantages such as flexible working time which available for people to do fulltime job and working as Uber drivers at the same time. Moreover, the system of Uber to connect drivers and passengers is easy to understand. After passenger had tapped calling botton on the application, the system will automatically send a notification to Uber driver to accept and pick up passengers.

My response
In Thailand, we also have Uber application the same as Australia which allows everyone who already had their own car to become Uber drivers. However, being Uber Driver in Thailand is not as easy  as being Uber driver in Australia because Uber Driver in Thailand have to pass many verifies from Uber company before being an Uber driver.

One of my friends has many bad experiences with Uber drivers because they don't really know the destination and some of them want to flirt my friend which sometimes make her scared with Uber drivers in Thailand very much. However, she still insists on using Uber application because she believes that it is safer than normal Taxi driver in Thailand.

Uber driver is a people who being a driver as a part time job. That's why most of them don't know some direction which is easy to make passenger frustrated.

However, I still think that Uber application can be another choice for people who want to find a part-time job and passengers who don't want to transport by normal Taxi because it may be more dangerous than Uber drivers who need to pass many velifies before being Uber drivers.

  1. There are so many legal aspects about Uber. One might think we should protect taxi drivers and make them illegal or charge it high taxes.
I don't think there is any harm by letting it run a business and everyone welfare increasing. well we don't need to wait for hours without getting any taxis who are willing to take us on. and we don't need to wait in the rain hopelessly to find one taxi at night. I think Uber can fill in the gap properly. However I think that UberX in Thailand is a bit too expensive.
Last year I was in Beijing, China, life was much easier because of DiDiTaxi. Uber is also available in Beijing but it just won't work on my phone somehow. Anyway DiDi was so convenient and you can pay the driver through application like Uber and sometimes you get discount, in my opinion the fee is rational. When you get a taxi on a street, however, they might go detour. Normally that's not the case in DiDi
There is another system of private transportation in China called HeiChe. Although it is unlawful, but we students use it a lot. Unfortunately sometimes if we don't know the market price we can be charged with extraordinary price. Information on traveling fee is crucial in Beijing.

    1. I agree with you.

Moreover, I think it may be better for passengers to have many choices to choose rather than waiting for Taxi which sometimes don't like to pick me up in rushing hour.

  2. I don't use Uber to call for a taxi though I like to use Grab taxi because of their promotions that sending me every week also the taxi driver know the direction very well but I guess it depends though.
I think that Grab and Uber are similar in term of apps and the way their treat customers but promotions of Grab is more interesting.
