Roger and Wilkins' questions

Comment on the following questions, which are the two critical thinking questions on page 59 (Rogers & Wilkin, 2013), and then reply to at least two of your classmates' comments.

questions

  • Do you agree that fear can be positive? Why?

  • How might fear be positive in each of the situations in the box?
Since your time is limited, I suggest you spend a minute thinking about the four situations and then write a short paragraph responding to two of them that interest you the most.
    The situations are:
    • being near a dangerous snake
    • giving a presentation
    • running a race
    • taking an exam

  1. Yes, I agree that fear can be positive. In the nature of human, we have fear in both negative and positive way. If you get fear and do not be courage to face with it, it means you fail. In contrast, although you are scared with it, you are out of your comfort zone. That positive is a proud of yourself to conquer and get better your potential level. Then, you will find that it makes you stronger.

  2. I don't agree that fear can be positive because the feeling of fear can get you lose your consciousness and it can cause the problem.

Talking about the positive fear, In some situation fear can be positive feeling too. Such as you are in the running competition, if have fear of lose, you brain will increase your physical fitness. Or while you are taking an exam and you don't want to fail, your brain will work better than usual.

  5. I agree that fear can be positive because when you have to face with a threat, you'll be stimulated to escape from that situation by unlock some abilities you've never did before.

Fear might be positive such as fear of taking an examination because if you fear that you'll fail the exam you'll have more motivation to study hard and read books.

  6. I don't agree fear can be positive, because I think fear always make me feel nervous, sometimes I don't like this feeling. I want to learn scuba diving, but I scared water, I still learned it. It's not a good experience in my life. I think I want to do that it's not fear make some positive feeling, just I really want to see the beautiful view under the sea.

  7. I agree that fear can be positive because knowing that something can make me fear might cause me to think carefully in order to avoid the worst outcome when I have to deal with it.

If there is a dangerous snake near me, it would better to fear and run away from the snake because the worst case might be that I got bitten by the snake and die.
