Facebook tests 'pay to promote post' tool

Once up on a time, we had to send a letter and wait for a long time, a day or maybe a few months, if we would like to contact someone. However, it is much easier nowadays to keep in touch with someone or even a group of people because of something called social network. When we talking about social network, I quite sure that no one would disagree if I say that a word which pop up in everyone's mind is Facebook.

According to "Facebook tests 'pay to promote post' tool", Facebook has created a new function that is highlighting your post to make it more visible to your friend. Moreover, if you want to promote your post, you have to pay a small fee for it. Recently, this function has been tested in New Zealand to find that "if users were interested in paying to flag up their information" (4). Because of "both Facebook's imminent stock market flotation and a recent slowdown in revenue growth" (13), Facebook has to find a way to make money to run the company.

I'm a Facebook user and I love it. The reason why I love Facebook is that it let me easily keep in touch with everyone I love (if they have a Facebook account). Facebook is useful especially now, the time I and almost all of my friends from schools have to separate to different university. Another reason why I like Facebook is that it's FREE.

When you click on a homepage of  Facebook , you would find this one sentence "It's free and always will be". I like this so much that's why I feel a little bit angry when I saw the word 'pay' in a title of this article! It's like I'm betrayed by Facebook, the website that I trust. However, I feel calmer when I read the whole article and find that there is some reasons why it have to make money. Moreover, now, I think it is acceptable if we have to pay to make sure our friend would see some important post of ours. I admire Facebook that it keep a promise.

  1. Although I have a Facebook account, I use it so infrequently that I don't think I'm qualified to comment on Bic's new post for this week.

But I'm sure it's a topic that many others can competently comment on.

  2. I really like your introduction because it looks so professional! Your paraphrase is very clear. I agree with you on your response, I like facebook because it's free and I can contact my friend even if he or she is in another country. I also agree with you to feel a bit angry when you see the word 'pay' but I can understand their reason too. I think there are many way to gain more income such as adding more advertising in facebook. By the way, this service to promote their clients' post is a good idea to gain some money but I think they should(and they can) think about something more interesting.

  3. Wow! I like your start :-D It makes me feel jolly to reading it hahaha I love fairy tales that's why like your beginning. Anyway, I'm one of the facebook addicted. I love to open it even I know that nothing happen.

I also agree with you that we should pay if we want our friends to see the post. From my experience, I have a friend who rarely open and check her message because she think that it's not important. But I'm not agree with her because sometimes it might be the essential message send into her box.

I like your picture. It clearly describes the details that you mentioned. Glad that you put them in and glad that you wrote this article.

  4. I am one of facebook addicts and I also feel that it's not fair for us to 'pay' money for it. However, I understand its reason for doing this. And I also agree with Cherry that if we have a friend who rarely open facebook to check, we want him or her to notice that 'there is a mail' and want him or her to open it and read it carefully. Nevertheless, nowadays, there are many other ways to make him or her notice with out losing money. For example, using twitter, line, whatsapp, hotmail, gmail, yahoo, BB chat, iPhone/iPod chat, or even just ring her to make her call back! If we have to pay in facebook, I believe we have to pay with US dollar. I don't think that US dollar is cheap...

  5. This topic really interestes me when i glance to the blog. I'm also facebook addicted, I always play it when I have free time. At the first time that i see facebook when my older sister is filling in the information to sign up it I think it's just a nonsensical website But now my idea reverses from the first time obviously. One day when I go vacation that has not ab internet, i feel a little lonely because I always follow my friend status, picture etc. This social network make me and my friend very close. I can type msg or comment a picture of my friend that live far away like Chiang mai on my keyborad and the system notify my friend extremely fast. One reason that I use facebook because it is free. I think the policy that facebook states is really bad news for me although i don't use that service either. Facebook receives a billion of dollars from advertisement. I think they should not do like this, there must be the better ways to raise the profit without eploits facebook users.

  6. Your topic is very exciting because I see the word "pay". I am a facebook addicted.I use facebook because it's free. If I need to pay, I will not use it. Now, facebook is very important to me because I use it to contact my friend in my country or aboard. It is easy to contact people. You can see your friend picture that can show how she/he is ?. I think facebook should change their policy. I agree with Fair that facebook recieves a lot of money from advertisement.I think may be facebook should has more advertisement in their page because it can increasing your income, and also solve their problem.

  7. Many people say facebook is an excellent social network whose main benefit is not only free but also easy to keep in touch with friends no matter where they are, especially for the facebook addicteds. Nevertheless, for me who is a cautious person, there are more drawbacks of using facebook than benefits. First, I cannot say what I really want to say on facebook is one of the disadvantage to me. For example, I want to voice my indignation for one of my co-worker at being unfairly dismissed by my boss but I can't. Because there are other colleagues connected with each other on the facebook, I had better not talk about anything that related to the affairs of work. Second, Facebook make me no privacy is another drawback. The more times I use it, the more things it reveals. As we all know, facebook has a super function is that it can detect where you are and your face, so every picture with you will be show up when your friends post it, even you don't want.
Although I think facebook has more disadvantages than advantages, I still use it as a place for storing my photos and staying in touch with friends by e-mail.

    1. I'm in two minds about Facebook. A major disadvantage for me to using Facebook was that it was very confusing when I looked at it. In the end, I did get an account last year, but I only use it for AUA, and rarely post. I thought that an advantage of Facebook might be that it could be used as a teaching tool, and although I led a professional development session on this for the Ministry of Education last year, I'm not so sure now that this is a real benefit: other online tools seem much better suited to teaching, even Twitter might be more useful in the classroom.

I'm also worried about the privacy concerns that Rainbow Gaga raises. It seems to me that its ability to identify and name faces is both an advantage and a disadvantage to using Facebook. I'm not sure which is the greater, but I suspect that this trend is now unstoppable, and that we will have to learn to live with the fact that advantages of convenience will end a lot of formerly common privacy. Perhaps this is a good reason to provide stronger legal protection for the remnants of private life remaining to us, but again, not if consumers prefer to choose less privacy for the benefits offered.
