BBC News reported a piece of news on this Tuesday about 2012 Lady Gaga Concert in Indonesia. It is said that concerning about security, Indonesian police have refused to issue a permit for US pop star Lady Gaga's concert next month because that Islamic groups and community leaders had objected to the show. They claimed Lady Gaga is a vulgar singer who wears only panties and a bra when she sings, also has negative effects on their younger generation. On the other hand, there are some opposite voices from Lady Gaga's fans saying ¶ "Lady GaGa is in fact a very unique singer. She's one of my inspirators", "Watching The Born This Way Ball for 2 hours won't hurt Indonesian people! GOD GAGA IS NOT A TERRORIST!!" ¶
Although Lady Gaga's clothes, make-up and hair styles sometimes is too exaggerating to me, like wearing raw beef, I just regard it as her performance style which is wacky, edgy or unique. However, these personal characteristics of Lady Gaga are seen as coarse, dangerous on different person or in the different place, such as Indonesia which their culture is more conservative and puritan. There is no doubt that culture plays an vital role to us. It is relevant to the passage "Culture and Mental Illness" on Chapter 6 Quest which talks about " the role that culture plays in the labeling of behavior as "abnormal"". Sometime, a person is assumed that he/she is abnormal only in which the culture think it is not normal. Hence, we can understand why Lady Gaga is not welcome to perform in Indonesia.
I'm wondering if Lady Gaga promises she will not wear any strange, odd costumes by no means showing any parts of her body, only face, is she allowed to held on her concert in Indonesia? I think it will make more and more people curious about how she will look in a totally different style. Moreover, I am also looking forward seeing how she use her creative idea into the controversial concert. Now, I am thinking maybe I should buy Lady Gaga's ticket for the concert in November in Thailand 2012 to experience and to find out how amazing, how attractive, and how creative she is. Maybe I'll become one of her Big Fans one day.

Rainbow gaga, at first, I thought that's you are on the picture. I believe you're a big fan of your dual gaga. I'm not her fan, but I like her performance. Although she often has been seen in her two-piece costume, her show has no sex appeal for me, but I don't know about others. I just see that's a wonderful show. When she sings and dances, she's very artist.

ReplyDeleteI knew that lady gaga sing the song name edge of glory. I love this song. In my idea she is a talented singer. She get famous in a short period of time form her outstanding clothes and her show. But in some show that she perform is rude in my idea. I think if she change her show stlye a bit more polite, she would get more fans.

ReplyDeletePertaining to the idea of the topic, it seems hard to say because all in all, it concerns Indonesian religion, which for sure the Islamic tend to wear concealed clothes. Therefore, the coming of Lady Gaga may spawn a conflict and take more time to be solved, which makes the Government takes that policy to prevent the consequential problematic outcome.
However, I could not agree more with Rainbow "Gaga" that just 2 hours does not make anything go so far. The reason behind this idea is that even though the government can avoid the Lady Gaga's concert, they cannot ban their civilians being a big fan of her from watching her via internet. Plus, this impediment may make it more serious by encouraging other Indonesian people who have not that much fond of Lady Gaga to try to watch her more. If it is like this, it will have a much more impact on Indonesia entirely.
I have to agree with Note. The response of the Indonesian government to violate the human rights of Indonesian citizens is again a direct result of religion teaching and practising evil.
DeleteNote is also right that this attempt, like so many, to keep their citizens ignorant and easily controlled by censoring ideas and blocking free speech is unlikely to succeed.
And just to be a bit more controversial and add something new, I think that if some culture is so weak that a concert can kill it off, then it deserves to die and the quicker it goes the better. Just because something is traditional or culture never makes it good or right - every culture has lots of things that are plain rotten and should be ended. I'm not a Lady Gaga fan, but she does seem to me a breathe of fresh air in some rotten old traditional despotisms that should be abolished as soon as possible.
Also, if the Indonesian or any other people want to change their culture, that's their right, and if the government of some religious group use the law to oppose such change, then the government and religious groups are immoral and unjust.
And now I'll have another sip of my morning coffee and relax before rushing off to class.
Looking at the picture, I asked myself: what are the advantages and disadvantages of a meat dress?

But a possible disadvantage of a meat dress is that at the same barbecue, other guests might eat up your clothing. A further advantage is the attention, which has certainly helped Lady Gaga's career.

ReplyDeleteI'm the one who listen to her music but I'm still not her fan. However, a lot of my friend are fan of Lady Gaga. Therefore, I would like to point out advantages and disadvantages of being Lady Gaga's fan. An advantage of being her fan is that you would get some inspiration from her and more creative in your dressing as I saw from some of my friend. On the other hand, a dis advantage to Lady Gaga's fan is dressing, too, because they would busy finding some exotic dress to go Lady Gaga's concert.
How sad that her Indonesian concert has been cancelled ("Lady Gaga", 2012) because of immoral Moslems acting without reason or justice and equally immoral anti-democratic traditional culture "protectors" who cannot tolerate differences of opinion or moral and social progress for Indonesian citizens.
