Ikea goes green with a cardboard digital camera

Have you ever thought that a camera can be made from another thing except plastic, platinum and steel? Do you ever heard about a camera made almost entirely from cardboard and can be used as a normal camera? If you ask me these questions, I will answer you ‘No’. However, nowadays this kind of a camera can be made!

According to “Ikea goes green with a cardboard digital camera”, Ikea, Swedish furniture retailer, has revealed an eco-friendly digital camera made from cardboard (Knappa) for given away to consumers in selected stores around the world. It was created by a Swedish designer Jesper Kouthoofd and its aim is to get buyers to share images of their furniture on the website. The advantages of Knappa are that “Having snapped 40 photos, users can dispose of it along with any other recyclable materials.” (paragraph 2) and “help reduce the environmental impact” (paragraph 9)

Because of the global warming many people seek for eco-friendly things to reduce the heat. It is our responsibility to protect the earth, but there are some people who are not going to prevent this crisis.
global warming
The use of air-conditioners, refrigerators, the plastic production process and many others concerning gasoline, oil, etc., all create the Co2, CFC, Methane and many others, which are the dangerous things that destroy and pollute air, and water. They endanger the plants, the animal, and just what I’m going to point out about the “global warming”, the increase of the heat in the atmosphere, the increase of the heat in the water, the melting of the ice berg which cause a very horrible danger, as the increase of only 1 degree Celsius of the sea, or the ocean will bring the disaster to the world. What will happen, you know? There will be flood, and I don’t think we can build any Noah’s Arch at this time.

Have you ever heard the news about the polar bears? They are going to die, because they don’t have iceberg to land and stay and live, they are drowned. It’s very sad, isn’t it?

What else is happening?

Apart from flood, is the outbreak of many diseases, the sicken for example the skin-cancer as we face directly the solar heat, and many other sicken from the polluted air, water and environment.

The first thing is try to reduce the production of all the dangerous gas, and whatever that causes pollution as we call “Recycling Process”, for example the recycle of plastic bottle, the paper as we should know that it takes us at least hundreds of years for those plastic things to dissolute, or to extinct. If only we recycle a can of Coca-cola or Pepsi or Fanta, it can help reduce the usage of electricity at a certain limit, plus the aluminum lid of can be reproduced to be the false-legs for the handicap.
Another thing that I can think is campaign of the light “turning-off” just only 1 hour per day per house or use solar cells, we can imagine how much we can save the energy.

One more thing to help is the use of replaced energy such as the new E20, E85, Gasohol and Bio-dieselwhich are cheaper and good for environment.

We can try to recycle; using replaced-energy, and we should also save our “forestation”. Imagine, each one of us plants a tree, how many people in this world, billions of people, with billions of new trees; this can help refresh the air, give us the food and the habitat of animals.

"Action speaks louder than words” all the above ideas will be just words and words if we don’t start to “act” now.

“Love the world now before it’s too late”.

  2. June,
I haven't read your source article. It sounds like a fun idea.

I agree with you that global warming is a serious problem, but I'm not sure about the commonly suggested solutions. I think more direct solutions might be better than ones which require us to use less electricity. I think that more, not less, interference in natural process on a global scale is needed. We could, for example, pump sulphur into the upper atmosphere to reflect sunlight.

And a more effective long-term solution to deforestation might already be under way with the increasing trend towards urbanization. If everyone is living in mega-cities, that will leave the land to be more efficiently farmed by large scale methods based on more technology so that larger areas can be left untouched and in their natural states.

    What do you think?
