Thai industrial complex suffers deadly fire and blast

Working in the chemical construction industry can be dangerous. Most of the accidents that happen on job place are caused by heedlessness, lack of training or not following safety rules. Companies should to have many rules to meet any safety policies they have created. Policies and rules are to train employees in good safety practices as well as warning about risk on the work place. And other companies should to outwork and be safe more than that company in Rayong.

According to “Thai industrial complex suffers deadly fire and blast”, recently the huge explosion in a factory killed At least 12 people and injured more than 100 people. All of the injured had burns, and toxic inhalation. “The blaze, which sent plumes of acrid black smoke over a wide area, was brought under control after four hours” (¶5), so thousands of people were evacuated within a 2 mile radius of the plant because of the toxic fuses. Rayong Governor said “the explosions happened on Saturday when workers were cleaning a chemical tank at a synthetics factory on the site” (¶7), it was a tragic error that caused this massive destruction and caused people their lives.

After reading this article, it makes me to recall that accident. On Saturday, late afternoon, I stayed in Rayong Company with my father. Then, I heard explosion sound and feel earthquake. The door in front of company opened forcefully. Everybody got the shock before I saw black smoke on the sky father 3km. Fortunately, It has heavily rained, some chemical in the air clear away.

I think causes of industrial accidents can be unsafe conditions and unsafe acts. The pertain to unsafe conditions can include deficient lighting, too much noise, slippery, extreme temperature exposure, insufficient protection when working with machinery or dangerous materials, unstable structures, electrical problems, machine failure, and etc. Unsafe acts can include actions or failures to act which result in injury. This can be a result of employee negligence.

  1. Thank you Min for this post on a recent Thai event written about on the BBC News.

As I read the first paragraph of your response, I wanted to know how you felt and what you thought at the time when you were in Rayong and felt the force of the explosion. Can you tell us a bit more about that? I thought it was interesting - some on the spot reporting from a witness. (OK, you a few km away, but you still felt the impact.)

  2. I think chemical industry is very dangerous if you have low security level. If you hva heard the chernobyl event in russia. That is the wrostest chemical leakage event in the world. The nuclear reactor blowed up. Many contries in europe were effected by this event. In Thailand, many factories bribe officer to ignore them so they can do what ever they want. Polluted water, air are easy for you.

  3. As I watched this news on TV, they said that because of heedlessness of the worker in this factory. It has a few gas in the pipe, it's the cause of the explosion. As you said, it can call "an accident" no one doesn't want it happen. And where you stay isn't far from the explosion and you still felt the impact. It's very interesting that you are a witness for the big tragic news in Thailand. It's affect with thai economic because I think that the price of rubber will be increase for sure in a few week or month. I hope it isn't effect our life.

  4. This is the one example of the unsafety circumstance in chemical industrial park. In my opinion, it was happened by the unplan policy of the government because they focuse on the industrial but doesn't concern about the people who live near the industrial area. The numerous chemical industrials are too many of industrial in Rayong. They should plan the buffer zone that are many of trees between the industrial area and living area. This problem can solve, if the government has the master plan and concern to the local people.

  5. I heard that news on TV too, and I surprised that you were so near to the area that the accident occur. I like your summary, its details are very informative. Following your response in the final paragraph, I think safety is very crucial especially for such thing like factories, building site or other work which you have to risk, so, everyone who concern to these things should always aware of safety while they are working and not be careless on anything, it's the best way to prevent such accident like this. I also like your response too, because it make me so excited about the situation.
