Rumor or Truth?

As we all know about the bombing at Erawan shrine few days ago, it is sure that most of us not only Thai people but also the foreigners are quite concerned about this issue in terms of our safe. Nonetheless, are we sure that it is still safe under the announcement of the PM Prayut?

In the article "Investigation Into Bombing at Bangkok Shrine Widens" points out that there are at least 10 people who are involved with this situation because they had to work as a team to conduct surveillance, to find the materials and equipment, and to plan for the escape. Besides, Thailand's Prime Minister said this issue did not link to any international conflicts.

I am not surprised with the investigation, which had more than 10 suspected terrorists, but surprisingly, the PM told us that it is not involved with international tourism. How did he know? Are there any evidence to prove this? What are the reasons that we have to believe? or He know who are the bombers or the beginners of this panic situation? There are so many questions in my head, and I just suspected of something strange.

It seems that everything have been made to be the same. To illustrate, the polices cleared the Erawan shrine space less than 24 hours in spite of the fact that it had to be closed at least 2 or 3 days along with the BTS ways in order to investigate more evidences and enhance more security both BTS and MRT. If we compare with other countries which used to have the terrorisms, they would have much more security than Thailand. One important thing is to ensure people towards the unsecure moment.

Nevertheless, the terrorists have already made "the fear" into most people in Bangkok; in other words, they definitely succeed to their objectives. and the question is "do we have any strategy to get the fear out? or  "should the Thailand's authorities have any urgent policy to relieve people's fear?" I hopefully await some practical announcements from the government, or the polices other than watching the news through the online medias which mostly consists of same viral videos and photos, and unsure news about the bombers.

I still hope this situation is not involved with any international terrorism (No Uyghur, No ISIS), because it will be the first huge issue towards Thai people and government. Finally, I want to know what do the terrorists exactly want? what do they value (other than making fear to people)? This is not only the first time that Bangkok has the bombing in the center of city but it is the situation which have not occurred before under the navy government also.

  2. Hi Punn,

When I knew this event from my BBC News APP, I think that it was a small explosion caused by an accident. However, the situation was really serious when I read more information about this. Especially, there happened the second bombing in the next day. It makes me worry about our safe because no one can predict where is the next place that they would like to destroy. Actually, many people cancelled their visiting to Bangkok in my country recently, even if some people they will fly in October, they are still influenced by this attack. I think that it is so sad because I really enjoy my visiting in Bangkok. I hope the government in Thai can find the reason for this big event in order to make tourists feel safe for their trip.

  3. I hope so. Tourism, especially from China and Asian countries, is the main national income in Thailand. We wouldn't like to see any more bombing, it's enough.

I think it may affect in temporality. Hope like that.

  4. Who is the bomb planter? Why did he or they do like this?

These questions are now still unresolvable because I understand that the police need more information and evidence, while many reasons can be a cause of this terrorism. I hope that Thai police and the government would apprehend the terrorist(s) as soon as possible.

Although this is a bad, sad news that several people—both Thais and foreigners—has died and been injured from unexpected explosion in downtown of Bangkok, many good things we saw from this incident are that Thai people showed their spirits to help all victims immediately, volunteers from different groups tried to assist the victims with their best attempts in terms of the movement of casualty and dead, contact with the victim’s relatives and many Thai people have donated their blood for aiding casualty.

    Pray for Thailand……..Stronger Together

  5. I like Punn's questions, and the point she makes that we need evidence and sound reasons before we believe things. Just because a prime minister, a doctor, or even a teacher, says something does not make it true. All of these people must be able to give solid support for whatever opinions they state. And all of them, including teachers like myself, can and to make mistakes.

I also liked Feem's comment, which reminds us that most people are not bad.

  6. If a majority of people in some society, say Moslems in Palestine, think that terrorism, bombing innocent people, is morally OK to achieve their political goals, does that mean it really is moral, or can the majority be wrong about moral claims as they often are about other types of claims? (This question was prompted by some of the answers to the survey we did last week and also some of the responses opposing Law's main idea that eating meat is morally wrong.)

    1. Peter,

As I wrote in response to Law's main idea and read through your question again, I found that it's totally wrong to say that it depends on majority belief.

This issue remind me to think of the movie, named Parasyte, that I saw last week, and I had a question in my head what are the measure of discrimination? and your reading assignment is a very very good work to discuss. I just read about 5 pages, and wonder in each topic which Gemma urged.

Gemma looked like Grandma? She's superb! oh not her, Law is superb!

  7. Many questions about this incident are still in my head.
First, the bomber was caught by the camera in Erawan shrine, and the government show that bomber was get in there and sit on the bench then put his bag on the bench and left out, but the video that I watched was cut when he left the shrine. I still want to watch it until it was bomb. My question is why they do not show us all?
Next, there are lots of camera in Bangkok, why they don't follow bomber by camera? They can follow bomber when they have a clue from the taxi driver, when driver told that he sent bomber to Lumpini, so they show that driver was drive to Lumpini is true and that's it. No more videos where he go next.

  9. Did you guys read news from BBC? The correspondent found the evident as a one piece of TNT while Thai police did not find it; moreover: it seems the police ignored to invesrigate it carefully and said that BBC may misunderstood about this situation. I'm very disappoint in Thai police after they try to convince people to live peacefully like there is nothing to worry and they can handle it; on the other hand; some Thai citizens don't believe in the news from the government and try to seek news from foriegn news agency to proof news from local agency.

  10. Hi all !, I've read the BBC news that Ling mentioned above, about the fact that BBC reporter found some evidence and want to turn it in to the Police. Unfortunately, at that time it's out the working time so they reject to receive the evidence. In general, Thai people don't expect much from government sector (which is not a good situation ) but this is worst than I've expected ! I also feel that they re-opened the shrine too soon like Poon already mentioned. They broadcast government's publication everyday, yet I still feel that the situation is still unclear.

I wish we can have a progression real soon.

  11. Feem,

I'm also glad to hear and read the news about cheering spirit up together by sharing the message "Pray for Bangkok" or "Stronger Together Thailand" as you mentioned above. There are over hundreds of thousand hashtags both on Facebook and Instragram. It seems that most Thai and foreign people basically have good hope and mind.

    Ter,

I just noticed about that from your comment. Do the polices only have all of those videos around the shrine, really? or any other videos are dummy cameras? LoL

    Ling,

I still believe that the Thai polices are efficient enough to investigate the bombers in this situation; however, they might not be able to speak all the truth, could it be possible? What do you think about the Thai media in terms of this situation?

    Ice,

That BBC news made me a bit ashamed of bureaucracy or governmental system in Thailand. Interestingly, it was the same BBC news reporter, I can't remember his name but he often report in critic of this Prayut government. However, it is a good way to boost the energy of Thai authorities to do something more efficient.
