"Front of the camera"

After I read classmate’s response writing, I realized that there is no topic related to an actor or actress gossip which I normally look at in Thai newspaper, so I pick up this one and write a response. The news I choose is “Lindsay Lohan's chequered life in the spotlight” from BBC News.

The important information of news is only Lindsay was punished for 90 days due to “probation violation, relating to a drugs charge dating back to 2007” (π2), and the rest is about history of her career.

Actually, she is not my type, but she is pretty girl from my point of view, especially when I saw her on the movie Mean Girls and Herbie: Fully Loaded. Anyway, I feel sad for punishment to her. I do not mean she should not deserve that, but I think she should have a better life somehow. I wish she could turn over a new life. Anyway, the other things I like on this news is the sub topic “The latest chapter in Hollywood actress Lindsay Lohan's chequered life was, like many others, played out it front of the camera.” It reminds me the phase that the real life is more difficult or miserable than drama, and let me think that it is worth to be an actor or actress, but end up like that.

  1. Shame on her and suit for her. If she went to class everytimes, the court will not semt her to jail. It's like one of Thai's words which is "Never crys untill seeing the coffin in front of"

  2. I was wondering when someone would write about an article from the entertainment section. As Book's response and Tum's comment show, there is plenty of opportunity for a thoughtful response to stories in the entertainment section.

    Is that a Greek pi (π) in ¶ 2?

  3. Book's post about Lohan's drug problems suggested some connections with the drug problems that Akira discusses in his post a little later.

If Lohan's drugs of choice are illegal, shouldn't the equally dangerous, and even more socially harmful, drug alcohol also be illegal? Shouldn't alcohol users all be sent to prison for drinking wine with dinner or enjoying a beer with their mates after work?

As Stephen Law might ask us (making another connection), what is the relevant difference between the drug alcohol and drugs such as marijuana, heroin or cocaine? (or any other drug you might prefer as an example here).

  4. Book

I think you're very kind to her. I feel nothing for her because she deserves that. If she were Thai, she would probably get away with it. Just like Thai style, you can compromise on anything.

  5. You're right Peter. It seems that laws about drug are double-standard. But there are always good explanation about that. For example, alcohol is not as highly addictive as Marijuana or Heroin.

  6. Peter, you are right, it is ¶2.

For question of drug, I think it depends on how much he or she use, and what purpose of using.

For example, a doctor uses Morphine to reduce the pain with minimum number, so this is an advantage. It should be legal, isn't it?

For Law question, I think all are the same in term of addiction, but the level of addiction and how danger, are different. In addition, when I studied level 4, after interviewed some of foreigner, some of them agreed with marijua should be legalized because it is easy to control and government can earn the profit, so it can infer that some society, they, people have ability to control thier self.

Tarn, I think she might met wrong friend, so that's why turn her to not a good girl. Living amoung people in holywood may be not easy, especially for anyone who earn a lot of money and has a power of money, and people come to get a benefit, so to surivive this, it must have strong family or friend who help or advice and give the right direction.

  7. Thank p'book to raise this sort of news to be discusses. It is hard to deny that issues of entertainment can get people's attention not less than those from economics and politics. Gossip,I am of the opinion, is an unavoidable human nature to feel that other people have more miserable life than their own.

For the news, I do not want to criticize whether she deserves the punishment.Either sympathy or pity that she should receive I don't know. But a point that I think it rings significant is how much solid background(as peter taught us)we collect before a judgement. For broadcasting something in front of a camera, there is certainly something hidden behind it. Like p'book said, this may not totally be her own fault. Perhaps, there are some bad influences or improper instructions that well justify her beings now.

I think this kind of criticism is essential because the stories happen all the time.If we can get right ideas from Linsay's history, our perception will grow wider and see the world as it truly is.

  8. I think she,Lohan, deserves more penalty than others because briefly, she was an actress. She has an opportunity to show or promote herself in public. Her behavior are pervasively copied. She will not be responsible for her bad action, will she? Her followers look her as a model if she take intoxicants , her fan may copy those actions.

However, my wonder is that broadcasting her bad habits is right idea or not. It's true that it can protect other people to do like her, but some people may act like her or not. In japan, when the musician, X Japan, committed suicide, lot of his fan copied it. This theory are very widespread, but the foreseeable outcome is actually the same, copy, like John Lennon was murders and the leader of Nirvana committed suicide.

  9. First, I have to confess my ignorance. I don't know what she has actually done except that it involves drugs.

But my question is: does she deserve any penalty?

That is, what has she done that is bad enough to justify any prison sentence?

If she was using drugs and driving, then that clearly endangers other people, as Akira reminds us in his recent post, and actually endangering or harming other people should be punished, but if she was only using drugs, why should she be punished at all?

    Does she deserve any punishment?
