Do you want to live forever? It is a impossible thing. It is like a dream. Nowadays, the life expectancy is increasing because of improvement of medical and scientific technologies, so the dream might come true in the future. This article is interesting for me because I am a person who wants to live as long as possible.
According to the article, we will be able to remain alive until 1,000 because of improvement of technologies. There is a project which is called the SENS (Strategies for Engineered Negligible Senescence) project to prevent and cure agening. This project is already working in clinical trials. It is not about new technologies, but it is about technologies which already exist and just need to be combined. This means that we might get 1,000 years life within just 20 years. If it comes true, we will not die of old age.
It sounds like fantastic. We can do so many things in our life. Old age people don't need anyone who takes care of them because they can look after themselves. However, if we can live to 1,000, we'll have some problems also. One of them is about population. If we can live to 1,000, the population in the world will be huge, and we will have run out of natural resources. We can even die of this. The huge population can make so bad pollution also. The biggest problem is that we can forget importance of life. If I can live to 1,000, I will be lazy definitely and forget importance of life, so I can't say it is very good things that we live to 1,000.

Akira,
ReplyDeleteHow did you come to be reading an article published in 2004?
I think that's fine, I'm just curious as to how chose it to respond to.
OOps,
ReplyDeleteour article is really similar one!!!
I am wonder for this project can be true, but if it is possible I don't want to long live like that because I think it will be very very bored.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I don't think that death is anything fearful, I wouldn't mind a few more centuries. I've thoroughly enjoyed the first half century, and am in no hurry to stop.
ReplyDeleteIt reminded me of a couple of books by Ray Kurzweil: The Age of Spiritual Machines (1999) and The Singularity Is Near (2005), in which the author presents a convincingly argued case for much more radical developments in human(?) life in the equally near future.
I frequently heard form the news that the majority of people who live longer always stay in Japan. I have no idea why Japaneses live longer than other if you know please tell me I will avoid it because I don't want that one :P
