Quest 2, "What Is Abnormal?", Discussion. 5: stigma today

In exercise C following the general interest reading "What Is Abnormal?", Quest asks us to discuss this question, which is number 5 of 5:
  • Do you think that there are fewer stigmas against people with psychological disorders than in the past? Among whom? Why? (Hartmann, 2007, p. 176)

  1. People nowadays more accept the psychological disorders than before especially for minority in social that have a different behavior. According to information technology developing, people can know and better understand anyone who have a psychological problems. if people can understand the symptom and behavior of one who got a problem, they will easier accept that group of people to live in society.

    1. It's the same in Australia, and much better than in the past when I was a child. Then, few would admit to having a psychological disorder, especially one that was serious enough to require treatment. The result was a lot of untreated pain, not only for the person with the disorder, but also for those close to them.

      Today, I don't think most Australian's would hesitate to seek help that they might need, and if they did, their family and friends would likely tell that some therapy might be a very good thing.
