According to the "Blackberry reveals date BBM messaging will go to rivals" on BBC Technology news(2013), Chris Green analyses that Blackberry sales are down, since it got affected from other smart phones. So that, Blackberry will decrease 40% of its employees before 2014 and launch the BBM messaging for Apple and Android as a free applications.
I'm not a smart phone expert or any technology person. I'm just a comsumer. But, the first time when I glanced through this article. I think, the article is fastinating to see that my prediction become true.
I'm the one that ever used the Blackberry smart phone. In my opinion, it is a really good smart phone. With the unique design that make a texting easier. I loved the BBM messaging, which is allowed only Blackberry owner to use it as a texting application. However, The problem is that users need to pay monthly for BBM phone plans. It is not a good idea to do that because most of the people can easily find some way else to save their money. At the same time, the Apple and Android started to be the popular smart phones among wealthy classes. In that time, I thought that Blackberry smart phone will had a hard time if the company did not launch the BBM messaging to another operating system. Not every one using RIM operating system, now there are IOS and Android which is more interesting. In contrast, company did not do anything until most of their customers stop using Blackberry phones. Although now it is free application in those three operating system, but some better texting applications are available and become more popular such as Facebook, Line, Whatsapp, Path and Wechat. So I'm not sure that it is a right time for BBM messenger.

I used BB phone, BB9700, last 4 years ago and it has full of characters on its keyboard. During chatting with my friends, and searching Google on internet, I typed the keyboard comfortably and accommodatingly. This point shows its pros; however, it has several cons. For example, its processor, CPU, worked very slowly like a sluggish and its price was too expansive than other kinds of phones. Its application didn't support with JAVA program that I couldn't watch video clip from internet.
ReplyDeleteIn my perspective, BB phone is very unique! Agree with me?
Yes P'Joe, I totally agree with you.
DeleteI was reminded of Joe's post on the NSA scandal that has been gripping the US and the world for the past couple of months.
ReplyDeleteOne problem BlackBerry might have had was that it offered users highly secure privacy, which is attractive to businesses who need deals and plans to be kept secret, but some governments could not accept such privacy and they interfered to end this high quality service from Blackberry, and this damaged it as businesses lost an important reason for using it.
I've never us BB device, so have no idea as to how good they might be. But perhaps the once great keyboard also became less important as the quality of touch screens, which can do much, much more with the same screen area, improved.
A nice example of how a company can do very well only to later fail. Nokia seems to me a bit the same - a few years ago (10?), Nokia made the best mobile phones, and grew rapidly, but today it's Samsung and Apple. Nokia, and perhaps BB, just didn't innovate quickly enough, and the same old thing that customers loved yesterday might be boring or worse tomorrow.
I've never use the BB but it was very popular in my university 4 years ago. My friends liked it very much because of the easy to use keyboard ,and BB system created the privacy society for them. At that point, sometimes I thought it separated me from my friend and I only the one that didn't know what was they chitchat about. T_T
ReplyDeleteI have experience using BB but its keyboard is hard to type due to my big thumb. haha
