Facebook failed in keeping passwords.

What I read

The article “Millions of Facebook passwords exposed internally” (2019) says that millions of passwords on facebook were revealed and the oldest ones could date back to 2012. The researcher says that the cause of this failure came from the way the developer team keeps passwords, as user passwords must be protected by encoding, but they didn’t do it. Facebook said they found this problem in January, from a general reviewing of the security system, and they also found that the most affected is users of facebook lite. Facebook tells us that they will send a notification about this mistake to users of Facebook and another application users of the same company, but they will not make users change their password if there is no issue with login credentials.

My response

The reasons why I choose Millions of Facebook passwords exposed internally to summarize is Facebook is the application that very popular. It is clearly that a lot of people use it everyday, if we ask our friends for their Facebook account, we can assume that almost of them have it. This application became part of our life lately, not just for relax as it looks like in the first place but Facebook is now has an important role in today society. We use it for communication or work, also it has influence on our culture, politics and value. For that reason, I think it is a serious issue that the security system of the application like Facebook being harmed.

Another thing that come into my mind when I read this article is cyber crime is now starting to be a deadly problem in the same level as another crime. Technology like internet and computer run our society. Crime on the internet affect real life as same as online. As we can see from the article when it has problem on Facebook passwords, it causes effect in wide area. In my opinion, it is the issue that we can't ignore.

  1. It was interesting reading Paeng's response immediately after I had read and commented on Sha sha's above. They summarized the same article for us, but the responses are very different, which is a very good thing. I like both.

But I was wishing that after Paeng wrote that Facebook "has influence on our culture, politics and value," she had perhaps given a bit more explanation and some examples here, perhaps even relating it to the exciting games being played out in current Thai culture, politics and values - with caution.

I also like Paeng's question for readers to respond to, although we are, of course, free to respond a bit differently if we wish.
