Progress in a scientific research

The news “Glowing fruit fly sperm yields real time results” in BBC News updates us another achievement in a scientific research which maybe give big benefit to human life in the future.

According to the news, US researchers from Syracuse University can track seed’s progress inside female fruit flies in real time by using glowing sperm. They also can see competition between the sperm of the potential fathers as they try to fertilize the eggs in case a female mates with more than one male. This process is a main point of sexual selection which is a significant force for evolutionary change. Therefore, researchers expect that this discovery will help them deeply understand human reproduction and can help to solve problems happening in human fertilization as well.

This discovery is another success that might help human to reduce the number of disabled newborn baby in the future. At this time, researchers can track each sperm in female in the real time, so they can know how each sperm battles to the others. Therefore, in the near future, when the technology is more advance, researchers might be able to control each sperm during fertilization process and help the best sperm to fertilize with eggs which bring about perfect baby. However, I’m afraid that if there are only perfect baby in the future, how high competition will happen in our society?

  1. When I read your opinion, I think that if the scientists can help people to have the perfect babies, every parents will want to have their babies like that. As a result, everybody will be a perfect person; is this like robot? Everyone is clever and good-looking. I think that if the world become like that, people have to concern about morality much more than today to avoid the problems that will occur when we are more clever.
