Illegal file-sharing policy criticised by BT boss

Do you ever use bittorrent to load a series or musics? A popularity of the bittorrent come from develop of high-speed Internet. When Internet's connection speed increase, it is more comfortable to share high-definition movies, musics and ect. However, most of the files which sharing are intellectual property piracy.

The article "Illegal file-sharing policy criticised by BT boss " catch my interesting. It mentions that British Telecom plans to suspend the internet accounts of people who download music illegally. According to Ian Livingston, the accounts of illegal file-sharers should be fined instead of cut off in order to combat against online piracy. He said that "He said the money generated by fines could be used to compensate the creative industries or even to support the rollout of broadband across the UK". The new law would allow courts to use injunctions to force internet service providers (ISPs) to block certain websites that facilitate illegal file-sharing. However, it is a controversy issue that this law may "threaten freedom of speech and the open internet..." and also hurt UK online business.

In my opinion, blocking illigal file sharing policy cannot solve the piracy problem because people can access piracy software in the black market or access the file in public place such as internet cafes.

  1. I agree with P'Earth. I don't think it's the solution for this problem. May be he should consider Ariely's idea about alaming people with moral virtue before they access the internet.
However, my superego also doesn't awake in one specific occasion that is when I bit TVshows which are impossible and no way to be available in my hometown. Since I want to watch those shows so badly, what else I can do?
The case of closing Mininova is pure crime to me.
