Latest Earthquake in Turkey

As recently there have been many earthquakes occurring, the article "Strong earthquake hits eastern Turkey " in BBC News draws stresses the prevalence of this natural disaster.

BBC News reports that there is a 6.0-magnitude earthquake occurring in eastern part of Turkey around 4 A.M. on March 8. There are at least 54 people get killed due to the collapse of the buildings. It also reports that in 1999 there was a tremendous 7..4-magnitude quake in Turkey which killed more than 17,ooo people.

When I read this article I wonder as Turkey has many earthquakes each year, they should have some preventive measures that can reduce the damages from the quake. The government should issue some regulation for building houses so that they can tolerate the quake. Otherwise, at least they should give education to people how to deal with earthquake. This quake seems not very serious but the number of people who got killed in the incidence seems not very small. My Japanese friend has told me that Japanese government provides people with a lot of information about how to deal with the quake. What is the precaution or the preparation in the case that there is an earthquake. Although there have been as big earthquakes as this one in Japan, a few people got hurt in the incidence. This reflects the quality of the government in different countries.
