Booming of study abroad.

Nowadays we live in high-technology age that we can travel across the pond within one day. Many students who have an opportunity will prefer to study in foreign country than native country. As we see in the article "Record numbers of international students" on the BBC News (Coughlan,2011).

Sean Coughlan report that the Unesco's Institution for statistics state that there was a rapid growth in the proportion of international students (12%) around the world. According to the Unesco ,the number of foreign students increase by more than three-quarters since 2000. "The United States is the biggest destination" (2011,¶4).In addition, Chinese is becoming big market group than Indian who used to be the first. But,Chinese government plans to encourage international students into China for being part of economy and becoming a "knowledge power"(2011,¶10) says Dr.Choudaha. However, some oversea students take a international degree in their own countries especially the UK degree. this is because there are online-degree ,partnerships and branch campuses in other countries.

I think studying in foreign country gives you many kinds of advantages ,even if sometime you feel lonely and home-sick. First of all, your perspective will be wider because you have to study and live with other students who have different background.Your thinking will be mature too. Following reason, studying abroad give you a good chance to get a job easier. In other words, employee who got degree from abroad will has higher qualification such as confidence, language, vision than people who completed degree in their own countries.Thirdly, you can learn other languages and cutlers. Last but not least, foreign universities hire teachers who are expert in their fields. Most of them are graduated PhD or successful person. Further, students can study from the origin of knowledge. On the other hand, studying international degree in their own countries might be good thing ,but they can't touch universal experience.

  1. To peter,
While i was writing,i had 2 questions to ask you.
1.Can I paraphrase the sentences that said by person?(line10-12)
    2.Can I cited the old article,Can't I?

    Thank you
    tune

  2. Tune,
    1. You can paraphrase anything - including a quotation in a source.

    2. In academic writing, it is normal to cite more than one source; Law, for example, cites 3 sources even in a piece of writing that is not written for publication in an academic journal.

One reason (amongst several) for us doing this blog activity is to practise citing sources where there is likely to be only one source; however, if you want to cite some other source that is relevant, you can.

Every source you cite should be included in your list of references. Onlysources you have actually looked at and cited can be included in your list of references.

    Good questions.

  3. I agree with Tune's idea but there is also something that we should consider about study abroad as my opinion details below.

Every year, More than 20,000 Thai students go to study overseas. If you're a Thai student who is planning on studying overseas, you need to test TOEFL, TOEIC or IELTS exams before. It could not deny that it is a stressful time, although you can get good scores and able to apply to international universities. For Thai students, is it really necessary to study at a university overseas? Or, is a Thai university good enough? They should check out these pros and cons before deciding study abroad.

Nowadays, social value that studying abroad has become a popular culture of many families to send children to study in foreign. Some parent think that children should learn in high quality school because education in oversea are better than in local country. They want to guarantee that their offspring will graduate from reputable university or college, although some children might not get knowledge as their expected.

In the past, study abroad may have more limited not only costs, but also sources that give an advice for studying in foreign. Especially, for someone who wants to study aboard, they need to be a wealthy family that is different from today. Even though study aboard gives more opportunities and new experience for the children, it builds wrong social value as well because some people do not have the purpose to study but hope it raise their social status.

Talking about the well-being of children who study abroad. Of course, they must be more adjusted such as new environment, different culture and language. Also, they need to control themselves but in fact that all of these might be even more worried for young children. Besides, they could gets inspiration from friends who study abroad but they do not know themselves what they need are, so it may be difficult to achieve.

  4. Tina, I surprised with the number that Kukik showed how many Thai people went to study abroad. I'm wondered what happen about the Education in Thailand or in the other countries. In Thailand, almost Business Company always gives credit to the one who graduated from aboard especially from US and UK. They will be hired and get the high salary compared with the one who graduated from the famous university in their hometown. Do you have the same trouble like us?

I think there are some dark side of study abroad. If you go to study in the Western country. I believe that you have to be preparing with the culture shock especially Asian people. The cultures are totally different. You have to live by yourself that cause the stress. Next, for the hardest moment when you start your first semester. To get use to the foreign language is very hard and if you're not prepare well before your trip. You'll pay lots of money to improve your ability. It sad to say if someone fails and chooses to spend life morally wrong because you have lots of freedom, for instance, they might become party person or might lose their confident how to be the good student and change their mind by looking for the job and work illegally. They might absence from the class.I think if you really want to go,please make sure by asking yourself why I want to go.The reasons should not because of a bad experience at the home university or it's just because someone else said it was good idea. Do you agree with me Tina?

I agree with your idea but I don't think all of foreign students can success.I knew that some of foreign students fail or success their study. Nowaday, this is a traditional, when they graduated bachor degree they must study master degree before they are working. In my opinion, It depend on yourself and hardworking.

  6. I agree with you Tip, however it's hard to change the social value that admire the one who gets the degree from aboard.
In addition, how we can trust the system of education in our country that it's reach to the standard.

  7. I agree with Tune that there are many advantages of studying abroad such as getting new experience, learning new culture and language. I think right now it's not hard to go and study abroad like in the past because at the present every country is open and easy to get in. Also, education is much more important. Many countries try to give education for their people in order to get high quality of living and also develop their countries to be better. However, I think studying in Thailand is very good as well. It's not easy to get in for some universities. Sometimes you can get in that university but you cannot get a degree easily. So, it depends on your attitute and preference that you want to study either local or abroad.
