Meal For Human

Animal as a food for humans for long time, but some kind of animal should not be used as food. As we see in the article, "1,800 monitor lizards seized by Thailand customs" on BBC News (2011).

According to the article, 1,800 monitor lizards were captured in southern Thailand near Malaysia border by Thai's customs officials. Monitor lizards contained into blue bags and hidden behind fruits. Lizard meat is valuable,"They are from Malaysia transported through southern Thailand and north-easten Laos to China for eating"(2011,¶ 7). The Bengal lizards are banned in Global trade and protected by law in Thailand and Malaysia.

In my opinion, Many people have wrong belief about eat some animal for long time such as Gecko, Seahorse, Snake, or Monkey. People believed that they meat are delicious, useful, related with physical sex, and used as a medicine. I think that idea not valid, because they are not livestock. They do not raised for food as pig, chicken, or cow. Anyone who want to sell this animal have to taken from forest or wildlife. Moreover, that is against the law and have affect to ecosystem.

  1. I like the way Wan has chosen and clearly related her source to our reading of Law.

If monitor lizards were raised on farms for food, would it be OK to eat them?

If monkeys were raised as livestock, would we be right to eat them?

When we are worried about moral right and wrong, does it matter what the law says?

  3. I agree with Tune (May 14, 2011 11:52 AM).
It would be an excellent idea to allow people to farm all of those animals for food. Because the farmers would be breeding more animals and protecting them, would be no problem with the number of animals decreasing. The farmers would be making a good income by honest work. The consumers would be getting what they wanted at a cheaper price and with no risk of criminal action against them.

I think everyone would benefit from Tune's suggestion to let people farm lizards, monkeys, pandas and so on for food, just the way cows, pigs and chickens are farmed today. (Maybe).

In fact that eating this kinds of meat -Monitor lizard,snake.etc- should be wrong due to againtting the law.But noone can prove that it is wrong belief. and some nations still have positive thinking about this. Morover, some fashionist use snake and crocodies' skin to make bag. So,i think that government should allow them to do farm. On the other hand, some people think is morally wrong. you so cruel to kill innocent animals. But you remain eating pork, chicken ,and beef. Is it heartless?

  8. Hi,there! Every vegetables were originally weeds or wild grass. Some of wild grass became vegetables because they had been cultivated as nourishment. Now,some people keep to eat some wild grass as well as vegetables.Do you think it is OK to eat wild grass? If so,we should be allowed to eat wild animal as well as domestic animals.

  9. I repeat my idea about this topic, eat or not meat. In my opinion, meat is an important food and excellent fount of energy and minerals for our health. Also eat meat is part of our alimentary chain. The question is what kind of meat is better we eat. Some people prefer eat only domestic animal, for another delicious meat is a exotics kind of animal, like this Wan mentioned in her article. Also, there are kind of animal is cultural tradition to eat, for example, eating cockroach in Cambodia. Therefore, you decide what do you prefer, eat or not meat, also, what kind of meat, only we need take car with to preserve the species.

  10. How would (How does) Stephen Law reply to Neiva's argument that it's OK to eat any animal provided that we "take care to preserve the species"?

  11. Hint: in the work cited, Peter Singer, whom Law cites on page 130, does not entirely agree with Law's main idea in "Carving the Roast Beast".

Singer notes that because "the wrongness of killing a being is more complicated", he does not want to base his arguments against the moral wrongness of how human's treat animals on the idea that killing them is wrong (2002, p. 17).

It’s hard to change what they believed because it’s their culture. Why no one volunteer to do some research about how much nutrition of each animals that human will get after they eat it; such as the regular type(chicken, pork, cow), expensive type (whale, shark fin, lobster) and culture food (snake, dog, bear feet, monkey’s brain, lizard). I really want to know the results.
The more we learn and read Law’s story, it made me eat less meat. I don’t know is it because of I feel bad for turkey or because I’m in the discussion too much :>
I think the idea from “Mentally Impair” chapter is animal has the right to live. Although you think about farming and take care of lizard or any kinds of animal in the farm and kill them gentle. It’s still morally wrong. We can’t eat animal just because it’s animal or because its species are different from human. (The Xmas Files, p.130)

Your answer like South American who said that they didn't want to free slaves because they want to preserve their argricultural workers. If they free slaves they might have a difficulty because they are lack of workers. It will result to a decreasing food which will lead to starving. Then, South American will face food shortage and they can't survive.

  14. Hi Wan!
In China, there are a lot of lizards in which people eat for their energy such as snake or other animals but I can't tell you that this idea is right or wrong because it has no research. However, people should not eat these kind of food because some of them have a poison that lead people die so we should eat the general food such as pork, chicken.

  15. An ecosystem is in balance when the number of plants and animals of different types is maintained over a long period. In an ecosystem there are plants and animals, animals eat plants and others that eat other animals or living beings. Therefore, there is balance in the ecosystem around this cycle should be maintained. If for any reason a species is lost, or their number drops too low, it can cause a change in the ecosystem. Some people alter the balance of nature and ecosystems when they kill wildlife, destroy forests and woods, pollute the seas and throw waste into rivers and alter the environment to pollution. Accordingly, all the affects will occur to human before long.

  16. I agree with P'Art that it hard to change but i think it can change though it will use very long time. Moreover, If the scientist reseach about nutrition of those animal, it will be change easily because people can know that their belive is right or wrong. If it's wrong, some people may be reduce to eat that food. If it's right, that mean it is good for their health and it should be farm and sell in the public by better quarity and quantity
