World without border

Today, We live in the world without border with many ways of communication especially internet. We can communicate with people around the world. Unfortunately, the people in China do not have opportunity to use internet freely. As we see in the article, "China tightens internet censorship controls" on BBC News (Chen,2011).

Shirong Chen reports that China government establish new agency The State Internet Information Office to strictly control internet users in China about the information and news. According to Chen, The censorship in China named "great firewall of China"(2011,¶4). It is the tool by government to use blocked some website. However, Chinese government want to use the internet to publish itself .

I think it was unfair for Chinese people, they was diminish their freedom to receive news and world situation. They lose the chance to learn many things in the world and opportunity to meet new friend on social network. In addition, for tourist who traveling in China, it is inconvenient for them, when they want to contact friends and family in they countries,or they want to find some information. It can be problem for tourism in China. More than anything I think limiting of human rights that should not happen.

  1. Wan,
I agree with you - restrictions on the sharing of ideas, even ideas many people hate, is a violation of a basic human right and immoral.
Sadly, as I note in my comments on Nui's post on the same topic (you have both blogged the same BBC News article), China is not the only country whose government prefers its own citizens to be ignorant on a lot of topics that are important to the people.

I feel sad for Chinese people that they’re strictly controlled by the Government. Everyone in the world can learn everything that they want to know by searching from the internet. The useful information is provided on the cyber world. In my opinion, I think government decide to remain their power as long as possible by not let people be educated.
According to BBC news, China has banned newspapers, publishers and website-owners from using foreign words especially ‘English’, by giving the reason as English was sullying the purity of the Chinese language said by China’s state press. I read the article there are someone agree with this rule. The old generation can’t understand English very well, and also they don’t want the new generation to create the new Chinglish style which means mix of English and Chinese. However, in the other hand how the Medias can create the abbreviation words in Chinese; such as NBA or UN. The CCTV-5 Sport Channel got in trouble and has banned broadcast only saying the word “NBA” during NBA game. They give the reason because the next generation of Chinese doesn’t understand the definition of NBA. I sometimes agree that you should not write the article in Chinglish but if it’s just the abbreviation. It should be more flexible. If you want to write in English, China should allow the author to have the right to write the whole column in English book or novel.
China should give the human right to their people soon. I appreciate how the government put the most effort to develop the country and it seems to be success for China to become number one compare with GPA. Have China ever asked their own citizen that what they are really want. Maybe the answer will be only the happiness to have the right as the other people who live outside the Great Wall.

  3. I agree with you wan. I don't think that it will be a good idea to block some websites. Chinese citizens are blind to realize the truths that their government covers.

  4. I agree with Wan that it's bad to restrict using internet in China because at the present, internet is important role in social network. For instance, many universities provide laptops to students to open new education that is self-learning. After the students get the information, they will discuss in a classroom with friends and teachers. It makes students learning by themselves first. Sometimes they might learn from their mistake to get more experience. Thus, China government should pay attention to this thing.

  5. This report made me think, about how society handles elder people in each culture. For instance I like the respect that Asian societies have with their elder people. They value the elder people’s knowledge; they feel that responsibility to take care them until the end. In the western culture I admire that the elder people had a longer useful life. Their average of life is high however: I am not sure they are an example for healthy life. Yet those cultures made me sad about elders in South American society, for example the people on the sixty’s years felt old and they cannot do anything by themselves. Furthermore whether they want to continue to work , it is impossible for them to find a dignified work according with their experience, our society thinks they are too old to do any significant employee. Even so I agree with the Dr Huges report they cause less trouble for the economy than young people, because this last group is affected for the world economic crisis, and they lack experience and they need to be support by their relatives, nevertheless elder people mostly live by them self. Almost all of us will pass this phase and we need to deal with the elders the way we want to be dealt with.
