A reporter says that a man in Israeli was looking for the modern for their daughter. His name is Lior Adler and his wife Vardit. They noticed that it has a lot the word 'Like' on the website such as friend's statuses, pictures and posts so lastly, he decided to call her daughter 'Love' because he had already checked that nobody in Israeli have this name. Usually, name for girls in this country are Noa, Maya and Tamar. Moreover, reporter points that they likes to use English word for the name. Lastly, Adler states that "When I posted her picture and name on Facebook I got 40 'likes',"( 2011,¶11)
In Thailand, there are many names for boys and girls. For example, people call Ake, Tum, M, Jo for boys and they usally call Ple, Bo, Som or Ning for girls so that why people like to change their nick name. Furturemore, they like to change a different name for their children. In this case, Adler was finding a modern name for his daugther so lastly, he got the name. In my opinion, parents can select any name for their childern but they should concern about what will happen in the future. For instance, if people call their baby 'Pig' and when the children was grow up he/her might embarassed with his/her nick name. That could affects children's mind so that why we need to be very careful about this problem.

ReplyDeleteYou remind me again how internet does effect with the human’s life right now. Everybody is connected to the social network by internet. If someone uses this technology in proper way, you’ll get more advantage from the internet.
I also agree with you that parents should consider how important of baby’s name because sometimes when children grew up, they’re teased by friends because they have funny nickname such as ‘Hero’ for boy or ‘Suay’ means beautiful in Thai language but in fact she is not pretty.

ReplyDeleteI agree with both of you that internet and social network are impact on our life.We use internet to search information and make conversation in our cyber community. However, i think it's quite nonsense to give your child's name a word as well as use on social network. Because when he/she grow up , it might bring shame to him/her. So parents should think carefully before giving name

ReplyDeleteAlthough social network help us keep in touch with our friends, it also stole our precious time that we used to spend with our families. I think that the persons who are by my side right now are more important than those who are online. A lot of students are addicted with social network. They will announce everything that they did whether they messed up their exams or ate yummy food and posted a lot of photo in those web sites. We should control our time when we spend time using social network site.
I sort of agree with Pree - after I signed up with Facebook, it seemed too time consuming and confusing to be worth my time. I email the particular people I want to stay in touch with (who are usually also the people I see most often), and I generally now ignore requests from people that I'm not really prepared to put too much time into - I like to see my small group of friends regularly, and stay close to my family in Australia, but if you're never going to actually do things together, I sort of wonder if it's worthwhile pretending to have a relationship because you Facebook each other.
ReplyDeleteBut perhaps I just haven't given it a fair chance.
And then I see the things that some of my nieces and nephews, and their friends, publish for all the world to see and I'm pretty sure that I don't want people posting that sort of stuff on my Facebook page. It's sweet and touching, but perhaps my age is showing when I think that some things, especially some feelings, should be kept a bit more private. I've still got my FB account, but it's locked so that almost no one can even see anything on it.
On the other hand, it was fun digging my 20 year old nephew when I was home at Songkran about his girlfriend's numerous and flowery avowals of love. I like her a lot, and they have been together for a few years now, so it's bit more serious than a Romeo and Rosaline type infatuation (this term's rw2 students can tell you about Rosaline), but I still thought that the gaudy public display of their romance deserved a comment or two.
I agree with Pree idea.
ReplyDeleteAlthough there are many advantages of social network, we should consider disadvantage as well. For example, it might be addicting and waste of time and it could disturb your real social life. Moreover, the personal details of users is the risk of identity theft and fraud. Information like the e-mail address, name, location, and age can be used to commit online crimes. Also, it could be dangerous if we are out-line appointment with stanger after chating in online socity and it might lead to abuse or murder.
Hi Oat,
ReplyDeleteI think this article is very cute and parent from Israeli are creative.
When parent find name for their son, I agree with you that they should think carefully. Today Thai teenagers like to change nickname, because they think their name are funny or unfashionable.
I also think that the Internet gives us too many advantages and the social network, helps to be in touch with our friends and relationship. . In my opinion the social network is very impersonal and some cases the people become antisocial, and addictive, because they spend too much time around one machine as computer. Another negative point unfortunately occurred in my country was that the bands of kidnappers were using the information of the social network to know the status economic of the people whom they try to kidnap. Anyway I know in Asia does not exist these sort of crimes. Anyway I want to give an advice for the people like to use the social network take care about it.
ReplyDeleteAs OAT points out, parents should decide their kid's name carefully. In 1993,one Japanese couple decided to name their new born baby "Akuma".This name is transltated to "devil" in English. Finally, the public office didn't accept their registration of name.It was assumed as a kind of child abuse.
ReplyDeleteIn my country,it is very difficult to change our name after the registaration was accepted. So, parents sould give nice name for their kids, hoping for their happiness.
Kuriko,
ReplyDeleteIn Australia, it is very easy to change your name - to almost anything you want, for any reason.
I think that's good - people should be able to call themselves whatever they want, and to change their name if they don't like it any more.
Because he disliked him so much, one of my nephews changed his name after my sister divorced his father. He was 18 at the time, and I think that's old enough for him to tell the government what he wants to be named, and it's the government's duty to listen and obey the citizens.
