Hawaiian-themed dance on flight

Have you ever felt bored during sitting on a plane for a long time? Do you want to see something exciting?

According to Vietnam fines airline for dancers in bikini-tops, by Tuoi Tre newspaper said that VietJetAir wanted to capture a holiday atmosphere, so VietJetAir gave flight attendants dressing in beach holiday and performed a sexy Hawaii dance. As a result, VietJetAir was fined 20m dong ($956; £611).

I think that it is not proper that flight attendants will dress sexually. If the airline likes to attract passengers, it has various ways that get better than this way. That flight attendants dress sexually and perform a sexy dance on the plane may make passengers look down on flight attendants and the airplane.

  1. Having had a look at the photo on the BBC News article, I don't think I would want the staff on my flight dressed like that.

But I strongly disagree with them being fined. Just because I don't want it is not a good reason to use the law against the company. Some people might like that sort of nonsense, and as customers, they should be free to make their own choice.

Anne's blog shows us yet another example of an unjust law that should be abolished.

  2. I don't think that is a good idea l think they should improve service. They can give their country information to passenger. If emergency situation happen, the flight attendant can't deal with the problem in that dress.

  3. Perhaps this helps us understand some important components of culture in Vietnam.

Although I think it's a bit silly, I don't think it's a bad idea. If customers like it, and the employees are happy to dress in such silly costumes, I can't see any problem.

Does wearing a bikini make someone less able to respond appropriately to an emergency or other problem?

And what are the male flight attendants wearing?

Does this tell us something that multinational companies should understand about Vietnamese culture?

  4. This seems bad idea for Thais but it may not for another country as Peter said. I used to hear about female reporters in western country were wear bikini while they are reporting news. 2. Thanks Som.
It's response writing, so if you think of it, you can write it and post it.

  5. It is not appropriate to show this on airplane. There are many children in it, I think that the people who are the father and mother will get difficult to explain this to their children. Why adult do this thing.?

    1. I guess that the airline thought it would be fun, which I think it was. But Tom's idea below (@ August 14, 2012 10:56 PM) also sounds right to me: they have got some great publicity from it for free. Their story made the front pages of the BBC News website. How much is that worth in free advertising? A lot more than the very small fine, I'm sure.

I don't think it's likely to have done any harm to children, who might also have thought it was fun.

  6. I don't agree about the idea of VietJetAir as well. It might be just an advertisement to be know in the world's news perhaps and it's now affective! Everyone around the world now VietJetAir flight attendants in bikini. However it's not a clever idea I think.

I flied with Singapore airline and Thai airways. For the former, the flight attendents wear clothes with local printed pattern, whilst the latter wear beatiful thai silk. I like their dress a lot and think the flight attendants dresses can show the identity of national culture and advertised the local products like local dresses and fabrics indirectly.

  7. Shame, I love milk and like you I drink milk, eat cheese and yogurts. Can we really conclude milk is bad for health from only one study? NO, to conclude that, we need more than one study to conclude that. Hopefully, I hope other conclusive studies are going to conclude the contrary

  8. Maybe it is a low-cost airline, so there will be a lot of competition in this business. If this campaign make profits. I think it's ok. But I'm pretty sure that it is short term policy. If the company can find another ways to advertise or make more profits. This sexy policy maybe fade away.

  9. The first I read a topic. I think that this idea sound interesting. But after I read all and open your link, I'm not sure that this is good idea.

Like Som's comment that now we have bikini reporter in western countries. But in Asian's value isn't agree with this idea. Peter,I understand that this is not harmful to children but is not appropriate. If this airlines only change costume to be less sexy, I think it will be more suitable.
