Is a futuristic traffic-straddling bus can solve traffic congestion?

Source background
According to "Chinese traffic-straddling bus hits wall of criticism," a futuristic traffic-straddling bus, raised over the road so cars can drive underneath, was road-tested in China. There was great excitement about this possible solution to traffic woes, but many doubt the vehicle would fit under footbridges in Beijing such as how it will turn corners, whether it is strong enough to bear its own and passengers' weight (2016).

My Yes/No question is:
Is a futuristic traffic-straddling bus can solve traffic congestion?

My answer is:
No, but they should test and make sure that it suitable for every people.

At first, I doubt about a futuristic traffic-straddling bus. How does it work? Does it safe during the bus operated? Then, I read the rest of the article and I thought that it might be idealistic traffic-straddling bus. The inventors didn't provide completely information about operating time and details of data test run. So, it couldn't be safe enough and it couldn't solve traffic congestion.

Nowadays, traffic congestion seems to be a huge problem in every countries, especially in developing countries. This problem leads to air pollutant such as carbon-monoxide from vehicles which cause of respiratory disease and global warming. However, there are many ways to tackle them such as developed high technology of public transportation and persuade people to use them. Furthermore, increasing car taxes in order to reduce the vehicle users, then, this problem could be solved. The solution of traffic congestion is a great idea for mankind, but it should be realistic and practical in the countries.

  1. I'm looking forward to the arrival of self-driving cars, which I think will not only be much safer than human-driven cars now are, but will solve traffic problems.
If we can order a car whenever we want one, why would want to own one and all the hassles that go with that?

    1. That's sound interesting. Self-driving cars would solve traffic congestion problem but it may use approximately 10 years or more to develop high standard of quality and security.

  2. I’m really excited about a futuristic traffic-straddling bus before I even posted the news on my Facebook, however, a fundraising has been controversial recently in China, People are getting worried whether it work or wastes of money. I totally understand that it’s a prototype, an early sample, model, or release of a product built to test a concept or process or to act as a thing to be replicated or learned from. As I studied product design, sometimes people might think that imagination is nonsense but things had to be dreamed of before they became realities so I believe in it. I hope this project will be successful in the near future.

    1. I agree with you. I think it might be unrealistic in China because of conflict. Maybe they should develop technology and test run before they use. If they adapted this innovation, they would be benefits for mankind.

  3. I hope this can really solve traffic problems. If it works, living in the big city will be more convenience for us all. Good public transportation have a big effect in number of cars on the road. Public transport inThailand, which is not so good, should be improve very soon! I

live in outskirt of Bangkok and I have to wake up very early to avoid traffic jam. I used to leave my house around 6.30 a.m. But in the past six months, no later than 6.15 a.m.! The traffic in the morning is really bad. Too many cars on the road. In the evening also, especially rainy season like this. High tax seem like nothing for Bangkokian.

Like Peter and Namwan, I'm excited about this bus and hope we will have a chance to use this. Or at least get better public transport.

  4. Public transportation is difficult to provide in which local people can access. Many cities in many countries are growing rapidly and there are many reasons which people refuse to use public transportation. As a result, they choose to use their own cars to travel. So I think they have to do a lot of researches to encourage people to use their buses. In addition, I think the government should also plan and promote the non-motorized mode (like walking or bicycling) because this is another way to reduce the pollution.

  5. When I was young, I used to think why there were traffic congestions. If everyone move at the same speed, shouldn't we be able to continuously move forward? Turn out, it is the result of an effect called phantom traffic (if I remember correctly). It is our reaction time that cause a slight delay. The delay accumulates and causes the traffic congestion. Thus, if we can decrease reaction, we will be able to solve this problem. However, this is unachievable for human. But it is possible for computer! I'm so excited for the upcoming release of self-driving car because it will be much better if we can travel in Bangkok without having to sit in the car for hours.

  6. I really admire their creativity when I first saw this article. They were thinking out of the box to come up with this idea which seems a bit risky but I do like it. I think the essence of solving traffic congestion is to provide a better public transportation service. As China accounts for more than a half of world's population, having some kind of vehicles which can transport a lot of people at one time might be a good idea. However, I think it works only for short-distance travel in downtown area.

  7. I hope this futuristic bus works. This can help us, who live in the city, travel more conveniently and fast. Also, this interesting alternative means of public transportation can help alleviate traffic congestion too. However, if it doesn't work yet, I think it is worth developing it. This bus is very useful.
