Pun's academic interests
The academic field which I am interested the most is law, especially commercial law. This is also what I studied in bachelor's degree. I am so into this area because I think that it is so useful to understand the laws which are ignored by almost all of the people as they think they are boring and no matter how hard they try they do not understand what the laws say. However, it is undeniable that law is important and also related to everyone, not just a lawyer or a judge, since we were born until we die. Also, the lawyer fee is also extremely expensive so if we understand law and can adapt it to our lives it will be a very good idea and can save a lot of money.

I've never studied law, but I have done a bit of philosophy of law, which is interesting. I like your point that the law affects every area of our lives. This is one reason I like reading US Supreme Court opinions, for example their ruling last year on same-sex marriage, and their more recent opinion on the legality of racial discrimination as affirmative action in a law suit brought against the Texas University law school by a white student who missed out becuase Texas Uni. gave a set quota to minority groups. The opinions of US Supreme Court judges are also great examples of academic interest, so sometimes we study the syllabus of a recent opinion in my AEP class.
ReplyDeleteDo you enjoy reading court opinions?
I used to study philosophy of law too. Most of law students at my university, including me found it the most difficult subject. Fortunately, I passed that exams.
DeleteI did not read much about court opinions, but I did read the one about same-sex marriage. I agreed with that because I think people should have freedom to choose their partners without worrying about gender.
I agree with you two that we should know about the law because it is important for us since we're bone until we're died. And people should have rights to allow what they would like to do (if it doesn't effect to other people) such as same-sex marriage. My academic field needs to study about the law; I mean that the law and regulation to control urban development such as the Bangkok Comprehensive Plan which is launched by Department of City Planning, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA). This law contains a lot of details which can control urban development in the appropriately way; however, many people don't know about this law or they don't follow the law so they construct their buildings what they want and effect many problems to other people.
