Should a rich country help people who migrate from poor countries?

Source background
According to "Migrant crisis: Greek islands see rising numbers in camps," many migrants who come from other poor countries, such as Syria, Afghanistan, and Iraq, live in camps in Greek, and the number of migrants is still increasing. There are two reasons why the number of migrants in Greek is rising. The first reason is that migrants would like to escape from violence and poverty which they suffer. The second reason is about Turkey's problems (their politics and deteriorating Turkey-EU relations) As a result, the number of migrants in Turkey now decreases but Greek needs to face this crisis. In addition, migration of these poor people leads to many problems in Greek. For example, there are overcrowded people, tourist attraction in some local areas is effected, more tension and create other problems (2016).

My Yes/No question is:
Should a rich country help people who migrate from poor countries?

My answer is:
Yes, if countries are rich but they should have appropriately plans to support this migration and solve the problems.

There are many migrants live in Greek so this is the challenge for the Greek government to cope this crisis. This news makes me think about another question that should poor people access health care services or get social welfare if they never try to get a job, earn money by themselves? (I mean that they are very lazy in which some classmates have already known in Dan's class today.) In contrast, the migrating crisis in Greek and the question which I mentioned are different situations. These migrants can't get a job, even they can't get a water to drink. Because the countries where they lived have a lot of problems so they need to escape from their areas for survival.

I think these migrants should be alive, and they should be helped by developed countries. They should have rights; I mean that human rights which they can assess any social services. Basic needs such as housing, clothing, health care, nutrition, and so on, must be provided for them. Although this problem is difficult to solve and governments need to spend a lot of money to provide such things for them, it's necessary to take care them. Greek, EU, UN, or other non-profit organisations should help together to feed these people. In addition, I think Greek should also give education for the migrants because it's the most important thing which helps them to get knowledges so they can get a job and earn money by themselves. However, I know that this is hard to implement because the Greek government needs to give a chance for these migrants to get a job in the country so it effects to the citizens who also want to get a job.

This crisis is difficult to find a solution. I wish that their countries will be peaceful as soon as possible. Infrastructure, social and economic development will be existed in their countries too so they can come back to home, live with happiness, can get a job, and have their own self-sustainability.

  1. I support that the migrants should be assisted in terms of basic need provision, but not for the economic migrants as the money from the government is collected from its people's tax. To provide food and shelters for ones who will be executed if still living in their home land weigh much more to me.

  2. I immediately thought of Hartmann's academic reading "Economic Systems," which we are working on this evening.
Did anyone else make such a synthesis of ideas from different sources?

    1. I think yes. Many organizations, such as UN, UNICEF, WHO, etc. help together to deal with the crisis. Donation from other people can also help these migrants to survive.

  3. My second response was the awful opinions that my mother and several other relatives have on this issue, all uninformed and generally prejudiced. It always seems weird to me that some of my nearest relatives mainly my mum, uncles and aunts, should be so anti-immigrant since it isn't that long ago, only three generations, that my own ancestors fled economic and political hardship in Italy to seek better lives in Australia through hard work.

  4. Migration is a very difficult problem indeed. I think humanitarian aid can be seen in many forms such as providing financial aid, sending durable goods, supporting the refugee with asylum or shelter. I think it's a good idea to accept the immigrant but only for limited numbers, depending on each country's preparedness plan.

    1. I agree with Miang idea of coping with the refugee. Country's preparedness plan is very important. It is a great moral if a country gives a hand to support the refugee. However, that country should evaluate itself - not help too much to cause a trouble to it's own country. The majority of budget should still be spend on its citizens. Moral should comes along with an appropriateness.

  5. Sometimes people fear of terrorism. There is big war in Syria today. Most of them move out of their county because of civil war. I think they are not well prepare to the flood of refugee. They didn't provide enough food and shelter for them. If they really prepare for this, I think everything will be fine. Most of them are not working right now. However, they are not skilled worker;they even use GPS to navigate along the way to Europe countries and use Facebook to find tips to go to go there. I recommended this video(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvOnXh3NN9w).

  6. I think this controversial issue have many different views, but from my perspective, I think the government earned money from taxation which is from citizens so even if these countries are rich but if it’s affect their securities, economics and their lives people would not happy about it and it can lead to discrimination problems in the future. Also, If the vast majority of these migrants come and live in these countries and they have to provide them everything it can cost a lot of money and it can lead to economic downturn. I think it’s the world’s problem so not only rich countries should help but the countries that could afford basic needs should also help the refugees in order to divine them to many countries and reduce the number of them in one or several country in Europe.

    1. I totally agree with Namwan's idea. Personally, I think that every country should restrict the law for refugee including their qualification. Because these could prevent the terrorist which may camouflage from the refugee and bring peaceful to their citizens.

  7. It is a good idea to help those who immigrate from poorer countries. I think when people make a decision to migrate from their own country to another, the reason behind this is a hope to search a better opportunity, a better life. Therefore, the developed nations should help them for humane purpose with only appropriate amount of money.
