Cancer risk of smoker

Smoking is contained in top two of the most common addiction. Many people addict it and it is the lead of death of many people in the world. Everybody know the number of tobacco or cigarette that you use per day can effect to risk of cancer, but how many people know the morning smoking has cancer risk, too.

According to “Morning smoking has cancer risk” in the Health section of BBC news (2011), the reporter tell us that people who smoke in first 30 minutes after getting up in the morning have more risk of cancer than other who smoke later in the day. The scientists showed that 79 percent of patient who smoked in the first 30 minutes more likely to have developed cancer than other.

That is a new knowledge for me. I never heard before that the time that people smoke has effect to cancer risk. For me, I never smoke before and never want to try it, but I want to remind everyone who smoke to know about this effect and avoid smoking in first 30 minutes after waking up. I hope that my warning will be useful for someone. :)

  2. For cigarette, I never smoke too. However, I recently smoke "Shisha" with my girl gang in a pub. It was my first time and last time for me after I realized how dangerous it is. " Shisha" or "Hookah" is a single or multi-stemmed (often glass-based) instrument for smoking in which the smoke is cooled by water. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hookah ,Retrieved August9,2011) Anyways, teenagers have been educated about how harmful also cancer-causing of smoking, in my opinion, the most reasons why some teens still smoke or begin to smoke is about socialization.

  3. Shisha is "ba-ra-gu" in Thai language,right?
    If my understanding is correct...
I never try it, too, but I saw it a lot at Khao San Road. Smell of it is very good and I think it is very interesting, but I'm not sure about its harmful, so I fear to test it.

  4. I suspect that there are several reasons why people smoke, but the important one is probably that its enjoyable, which is why people do a lot things, like eat, read, drink, dance, and so on.
Enjoyment sounds like a good reason to me to do something, even if there are risks - as there also are in things like eating, drinking and even dancing. reading is probably pretty safe, but then there is the danger of exposure to ideas that ... so perhaps everything has its risks.
    And it risk itself enjoyable?

  5. I meant "And is risk itself enjoyable?"

I had already read this article as I was having my morning coffee, definitely without a cigarette, and like Fai, I found it interesting, so I'm glad she chose to blog it.

  6. I think Ba-ra-gu that you can see around Khosan Road is really dangerous. My friends told me that Ba-ra-gu provided there is not pure, there are something else added inside the pot instead of the original ingredients. They said original ba-ra-gu will help clean your lung and refresh your body and mind. But I don't know it's true or not...I think ba-ra-gu equals to cigarette.

Once, I hang out with my friends while I saw my friends smoking Ba-ra-gu, I saw black liquid inside the glass pot...that made me think.."Where do that black liquid go actually?"..."They are smoking, so it's gonna get inside their lung, isn't it?" That made me remind of Tar inside cigarette smoker's lung. Really Dangerous!!

  7. Tang, it sounds disgusting. I've never tried it, but filthy water does not sound very attractive.

In fact, I don't think I've ever seen anyone smoking a hookah. Perhaps I need to hang out on Kao San Road?

  8. N'Fai, it is very intersting information! Smorkers have more information that might make them bored with smoking.

I see hookah is pretty popular in Thailand among foreigners. I thought I would try it some day because there are many attractive flavors like bluebery, mint, etc. I have to rethink now.

  9. P'Naya, I've ever thought like you, too because their smell is so good and seem that it not dangerous, but when I known my thinking is wrong, I changed it.

  10. I completely agree with you, Peter! You should go hanging out at Kaosan Road.

I think we all understand clearly about the danger of smoking but according to Fai' writing, I'm curios about why smoking in the morning creates more risk of cancer than other times.

It may relate with what scientists call Circadian Rhythm which is the theory about our body produces different chemical during the day varied to the different period of time.

Note: I wanted to make the word "Circadian Rhythm" to be italic and link but I don't know how to do it in iPad.

  11. P'Rian, I'm with you that Peter should try to go hanging out at Khao San Road. There have a lot of foreigners and about half of them or more smoking a hookah.

I think the reason that why smoking in first 30 minutes after waking up creates more risk of cancer than other times is about inhale at that time. May be we inhale at that time more than other, so smokers might inhale both of smoke and air more than other time.

  12. Yes, smoking cigarette causes many health problem. Smoker generally want a nicotine and taste or smell from cigarette, but it also contains various dangerous chemicals, especially tar. But there is a way to get nicotine and avoid dangerous chemicals, it is electric cigarette. Electric cigarette use small battery to generate heat which turn tobacco-taste liquid into vapor. More importantly, you can choose the liquid which imitates well-known cigarette brand, Marlboro, L&M, Dunhill. And more special taste that you cannot see in regular cigarette, banana, for example.
I am not salesman. Just giving an another nicotine option for your first 30 minutes.
