The UK's new aircraft carrier.

What I read
According to "HMS Queen Elizabeth: Carrier arrives in Portsmouth" (2017), the writer reports about HMS Queen Elizabeth, the United Kingdom's 3.1 billion pounds new aircraft carrier arrives at Portsmouth naval base in England, which is still under construction and will join the Royal Navy's fleet in 2023. This aircraft carrier is contained the latest technology and the greatest equipment of the UK, with the weight 65,000 tons and the flight deck long 280 meters that capable of carrying 40 F-35B Lightning fighter jets, which makes it becomes the Royal Navy's biggest ever warship. Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Theresa May claims that "This ship is the symbol of the United Kingdom as a great global maritime nation".

My response
Nowadays, even the world world was ended for decades, ruthlessness of the war still made people scared. Many countries still try to improve their military power because they are aware of what will happen, if they have to face with their old enimies again in the future. For example, the USA still spends most of their money for developing their military facilities, such as fighting jets and warships. These things make the USA has the world strongest military power in their hands. However, now the world situation is getting worse. We can see many news about the countries problems, such as the USA's alliances and the Noth Korea, and also, the problems of terrorist in Europe and Arab. These problems might lead the world to get in to the war period again.

Since the end of the world war two, The Royal Navy does not develop many facilities like power full countries, such as the USA, Russia and China. HMS Queen Elizabeth is the biggest development of the UK for decades. This move is quite a big move for this country. It is an evident to show that the UK also realizes that they have to prepare for the worst situation that might affect their country too. Moreover, this warship of the UK can be compared with USS Gerald R. Ford, the world greatest aircraft carrier own by the US Navy. This development shows that the UK is able to develop the efficiency of their military facilities to be the same quality as the world greatest military too. It might be the signal that the UK might come back to be one of the greatest countries of the world again.

My question for readers
Do you think, is it important for the country to develop their military facilities?

  1. I would really like to say that this is not important, but the current world situation is not encouraging. Nawadays, unfortunately, many countries to develop their military facilities. Many scientists predict the Third World War. I hope that they are wrong. But to be honest, I think that biological weapons will be used in the 21st century. Or it will be an atomic weapon. It will not be an army. Military technology is developing every new day. All types of weapons are constantly improving. And this is very sad, because I do not know how successful the world community will be developing.

  2. I think it is unimportant, but It would not change anything, Haha.
Huge amounts of money was spent on military facilities; However, I understand why many countries use their money for it. The world would have been different if The U.S. had not won the World War 2. And that because of their military weapons.

  3. I wouldn't say whether it is necessary or not but in my opinion, which country has no military that means it can be invaded; like a house that has no one in there, burglar would rather choose this house to another house with human inside.

However, today, there're many international treaty such as UN that avoid violent. And because we have faced many wars and none of them leads to benefit, but damage world's economy and many valuable thing. It seems that possibility of world war 3 is almost none because we regret of the past. But why do ,many "greatest country" and others, why they don't stop invent their weapon and military. Because you'll never know what the other person's thinking until they do it. Likewise, UN is preventing us from the war, and we know world war 3 is really hard to happen; however, if one member chooses to tear the paper, we don't know, at that time, the weapon is necessary.

After all, in our country, there's also a law, why there're still thieves? Everyone hopes the next war not going to happen and there's also UN like a law in our country.

... If there's a third world war happened, the forth world war's weapon is going to be a stick of wood or a stone.

  4. I agree with the comments already made. Whilst hoping it does not happen, it is sensible to have a strong enough military to be able to inflict massive losses on any enemy who attacks. Unfortunately many countries waste money that could more usefully be used elsewhere on weapons that are useless, or worse they use the weapons against their own people not foreign enemies. That is, they treat their own fellow citizens as enemies and use their excessively large collections of weapons only to harm their own nation.

The good news is that society is becoming less violent. We are much less violent than out bloody-minded ancestors, even with the terrorist acts that newspapers make so much of and that politicians use as a bad excuse to control citizens with bad law. Unfortunately, our weapons are so powerful that one serious misunderstanding, or one super-looney in power, could perhaps take our short-lived species into non-existence — not a happy thought with my morning coffee.
