What I read
According to "Why a robot won't steal your job - yet", Zaria Gorvett suggests that only some of all jobs will be replaced by robots. While humans can think and solve an unexpected problem, robots can't. They have a different process of thinking from us. Now we don't really know how our brain works, so scientists can't teach them our brain system, and they put algorithm instead, resulting in that we don't know how and "why they've made a decision". Moreover, with the algorithm inside, they can make mistake because of pattern they find which in fact, it's an irrelevant pattern. With many other problems with AI, as long as they aren't more human-like, they can't work alone.

My response
When I was finding a news post today, like others of my post, I have no idea what topic I was looking for. I was just like read any headline and see it is interesting, and then I found this one was the most interesting. Also, I saw someone wrote about AI last week(if I wasn't wrong), so I thought it's a good one to write. Yes, it is a long one but it's interesting enough to pull me, who don't like reading, to read it till the end.
Of course, we all know AI these days and it becomes our discussion if they will take over our job, what would I do? But for me, I always think it's quite hard(at least in the near future) for them to do everything for us without us beside them. In the news, there're four main reasons which, of course, are reliable, but I'll say what some of the disadvantages I myself think of.
I can think of many disadvantages and the main one is that robots can't solve an unexpected problem like humans. For us, when we come to a problem we've never met, we can reasonably think and solve even if we weren't ever taught to deal with that situation. For robots, they can do their task smoothly but when the problem occurs, they can't deal with it if they weren't taught before that there would be that problem and how to deal with it. And that's going to cause more problem if we aren't with them at that time.
And there comes another disadvantage with a real example I'd like to mention - the nurse robot in a hospital. Can you think what the problem with it I'm going to say? I saw it on facebook a long time ago when someone posted the video of nurse robot somewhere in Thailand(I can't remember) walking in the hospital. When I first saw it, I feel half funny and half horrified. Because, you know, with its red eyes and no walking-leg motion like us, it scared me, or even if it has, I still don't feel comfortable with it if I'm a patient. And that's what I'm trying to say. If we have too many AIs anywhere, we will feel uncomfortable and scared when we stay alone with them. I'm not sure for the others, but at least for me, I won't stand it.
Another example I can think of just now that I really like to share with you - google translate. To tell that human is the best, I think I don't have to explain much on this. One word, it can translate. One phrase, it's still doing okay. One sentence, it's gone mad. Unlike us, an interpreter can do no matter how long sentence is.
Because they're not like us, even though scientists are trying to teach them to interact with us, they'll still never be 100% like us.

My question
Think of my example - nurse robot. If you are a patient lying on the bed and she comes and does anything instead of a real nurse, would you feel like me? Do you think she, a nurse robot, should be doing that job?

It is really good blog and very interesting. I have read many news that one day the robot will take our jobs.
ReplyDeleteActually I am not 100 % disagree with this idea. For example, ATM which is not smart as robot but it can took the job from many teller in bank. The large banks in Thailand have tried to cut down their branches. Consequently, many officers who worked in branches of the banks were enforced to resign. In addition, I think in the near future may be the robot will come and will be smarter.
On the other hand, I think we have our brain and have skill like negotiation, fast learner and analysis. So, if robot come we have just to adapt ourselves by improving other skill which robot don't have, then we will continue our career path.
For your question, I think real nurse should be better to take care me. I agree with you that I might feel scared if I had to live alone with them.
For me, I agree with this idea that some job cannot do by AI. In the other hand, some job can do by AI and have more quality and efficiency. Human should adjust and develop themselves. We should do more complicated job. I fortunately do a job that AI can't do, a medical doctor, because my job should have a special thinking process, observant skill and empathy skill. However, some job that no special skill for example accountant, cashier, house keeper, should prepare and change the way them do a job.
