A sinking feeling
In the article, “A sinking feeling”, in The Economist( March 11th, 2009), the writer talked about the relationship of science and politics by mentioning about the rapid rising of sea levels, which means that a scientific report could effect on making political decision. The writer said that the speed of sea levels going up is as almost twice faster than prediction, which is from an announcement of a scientific conference which was held in that week in Copenhagen, and this warning is for giving an effect on the political meeting which will be held in the same city in December.
Four scientists reported that the melting of iceberg made speed up the rising of sea levels, and it cause by climate change. The scientists want to change the result of UN Climate Change Conference in Bonn in two weeks ago.
When I read this article, I thought about global warming, in spite of it is not the writer's point. I think that the writer wnated to say about the influence of scientific report. Nowadays, However, many people are interested in global warming, because there are many dramatic and unusual changing of climate worldwide. Eric Rignot of the University of California, Irvine, who is the one of the four scientists in this article, pushed world leaders to make decision of going down of releasing of carbon dioxide. In my case, I debated about global warming last term, before that time I just knew about that issue just little bit, in addition, thought that was not serious. However, during researching information, I could know about several facts about global warming and know that the problems cause by global warming are getting severe. Of course, there are still arguments, but I think that we have to give an attention about this issue, because they are connected with our future.

Several weeks ago, I watched a documentary about global warmning in National Geography. Before I watched it, I don't know much about global warming, and I just heard that some species which have lived under the cold sea are disappearing, because of global warming. However, global warming is much severer than I expected. If the climate on the earth go up only 1 celsius, many things would be changed. The big forest like in Australia and Latin America would be fired and many place would become desert. In addition, Cases of sunstroke would be frequently reported. The documentary said that actually, there is no clear reason of global warming, but the reasons scientists can suppose are CO2 and too much waste of energy. They have continued to do research about the causes of global warming whether it is natural phynomena or human's wasteful behavior such as using too much energies or products which can make CO2. I think wastefulness by people threaten our envirionment and also it is a cause of global warming. Still, we use too much energy and we can't control it. I think, this is the time government or any other authority should control them for our earth.
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting, Sunny ^^
I've seen the movie called "An inconvenient truth" which is a documentary movie. In the movie, there was a lot of data which we cannot ignore anymore. The temperature has been getting up with continuing up and down. Sometimes, when I watch TV, a forecaster says colder than last year, or the coldest it's ever been monitored. However, it's just a small thing in a big difference. I agree with Soojin, I also think this is the time to do for our earth.
