Taking vitamins to protect against disease is a waste of money

Rory Collins, Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology at Oxford said that taking vitamin cannot protect people from disease such as cancer, heart problems and strokes and no evidence of any protective effect against heart disease. Other studies suggested that vitamins have a protective effect against some diseases and a supplement to a balanced diet or to boost nutrients. However, Eating fresh fruit and vegetables is more beneficial

In my opinion, vitamins cannot prevent serious illness but they have a lot of nutrients which are beneficial. If you do not like to eat fresh fruit and vegetable or do not get enough nutrients per day, vitamins are one option to help you to be healthy.

What do you think about taking vitamins?

  1. I agree with you Wan. I think taking Vitamin C can reduce your chances of catching a cold. Eating fruit and vegetable is best, but if you can't, the next best thing is supplements. I do have a question about when vitamins should be taken. Should they be taken before, after or during a meal? If before, how long before and if after, how long after? I find that when I take vitamins I often feel bloated. Does that happen to you?
